"We was expecting a nice quiet week, walking our dogs (as it's located in the forest). It was not as expected. The house is located on the owners land as described, what they don't tell you, next to the house is their mothers, and very close by is the owners house. It's very on top of each other, which made it very uncomfortable to relax. The door leading into the living room has a big window with no curtain, felt too open. The thermostat kept changing to different programmes which made the house too hot all the time, even at night.Regarding the dogs, they were welcome in the property, however not outside, there was no enclosed area to let the dogs out of the house, which could have easily been accommodated by putting a gate on The courtyard and maybe knocking part of the wall out to have a little garden area, it was filled with junk doing nothing. The dogs weren't allowed upstairs in the bedroom with you, which is ridiculous, dogs are generally uncomfortable in a strange house. There are no decent walks through the forest, all road walks, unless you are willing to drive. To drive places it would take a lot of fuel just to get down the single track lane, used quarter of a tank one way. It is not dog friendly or walker friendly. Only go if you don't want to do anything except stay in the house. We felt that uncomfortable we didn't even spend 24 hours there. We was not forewarned that they were having forestry works in the area, which limited walks even more, We probably wouldn't of booked. We maybe could have stayed a few extra days if there wasn't limitations where we could have walked from the property. Definitely not a week. 100% wouldn't recommend to dog owners and walkers."

"A short notice 4 night mid week stay at the Bothy turned out to be a great choice for me. Though remote the drive up is not difficult and even after a good nights rain the last 400 metres or so caused no problems. I could imagine later winter months with snow it could be arduous.I was met on arrival and given a short informative tour. There was a welcome tray consisting coffee, tea, chochy biscuits, along with milk, eggs and a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge. Upon a closer look around the place was well catered for with modern appliances, along with books, cd's, dvd's, and play equipment for the younger ones. Almost a home from home.Mobile phone can be a bit hit and miss but the Wi-Fi is ok, Some Freeview channels can be a Hmmn, mainly the ITV ones. Having two small dogs the area gave me the ability to walk them for miles in numerous directions. They didn't complain.I enjoyed my time and given the opportunity would do it again. While not all who would prefer this type of restful, peaceful style of break for those who would i would recommend The Bothy, it's a bit of a GEM.* Do ensure to take a supply of foodstuff with you if you do not want to move off sight. A twenty mile plus round trip may not be to your liking.*"

"Had difficulty finding cottage as directions stated bridge cottages, bridge street and bridge street is at the other end of town. Eventually walked into cottage and was immediately disapointed. Kitchen and bathroom were not very clean and I didnt expect to share my showers with creeping black mould. There were cobwebs and dust in all corners of bathroom. We did not bother with using white goods except for fridge the rest seemed somewhat antiquated.Half the lights in kitchen did not work . Upstairs was better, bed linen and towels clean. We were also not told that cottage was situated opposite a builders yard. Overall Hunter Cottage needs some TLC and a good clean.Welcomed with chocolates and wine. Well equipped and felt like home. Great for walking straight from the door and for utilising the buses for walking sections of the Wall. Really dog friendly which was wonderful.Very nice cottage close to haltwistle. Wine bikkies and chocs in the fridge. We really enjoyed our stay and would return"

"We were met by the owner who had left us a bottle of wine and strawberries and cream as a welcome. The property was a good size for the four adults using it. It was all kitted out with everything one required. The location of the property was perfect for walking Hadrian's wall. There were also numerous other spectacular walks locally. The village of Haltwhistle was a small United Nations. We met and spoke to people from various parts of America, Holland, Germany as well as others from various parts of England. I would recommend the Black Bull pub in the centre of the town for a great atmosphere, different types of ales and good pub grub. The village has all the amenities you would require and there are plenty of takeaway shops nearby. The main town of Hexham is only 13 miles away if you require the major store chains, M&S, Waitrose, Tesco, Lidl, Next etc."

"What can i say,i read reviews before we went and and 1 review stated that they only stayed 1 day. That was certainly their loss they said no walks for dogs which was ridiculous perhaps they didn't understand the word remote The Bothy was in the most amazing location and a real home from home. Dawn and Stephen was the perfect hosts friendly and informative but gave you space to enjoy this unique gem. In the busy chaotic world we find ourselves in it was lovely to get no signal. People who want technology everywhere they go would not enjoy staying. But as busy professional people we loved and our dog loved everything. Please ignore any negative comments believe me this place is pure tranquillity and we definitely will be back time after time"
