What our customers are saying about our Holiday Cottages With Open Fires In France To Rent.

"Overall, we felt deflated after the holiday. Firstly, the house. Downstairs, the open plan allowed flexibility, enabling us to eat together, play cards etc and it certainly possessed a rustic charm. Upstairs, there was a spartan quality to the rooms. In bedroom 1, there was a tiny window in the roof and it became unbearably hot at night, forcing two of the children to sleep on sofa downstairs. Bedrooms two and three had windows that could be opened. There were no wardrobes or chests of drawers. Instead, the owner had provided metal frames for hanging or stacking clothes in two rooms which were out of keeping with rest of furniture. The bathroom was clean and shower hot. However, it had a slightly frosted but still see-through window that looked onto an internal upstairs corridor. We had to use drawing pins and a towel to cover the window, which, from the evidence of the frame, other guests had had to do. Finally, a huge wooden beam straddled the top of the stairs and one end of the corridor. I hit my head twice on the thing, drawing blood each time. So, our overall impression of the house was that it had the potential to be an excellent holiday home but needed work: a blind in the bathroom; wardrobes in keeping with age of house; fabric wrapped around beam to provide a degree of protection; fans in bedrooms. Little quibbles, you might argue, but they gave the unfortunate impression that customer comfort and satisfaction had not been put first.Secondly, the owner. She lived in the next-door house and greeted us on arrival. There were a number of dos and don'ts. Fair enough. She kept referring to the house as a place to chill and relax. However, later in the week, she complained about the noise our children were making in the pool, claiming it 'travelled for miles' and 'it was the first time she'd ever had to say anything in 15 years.' Noise is a subjective thing. My wife and I were reading in the cottage and did not find the noise excessive. From a customer point of view, I was more concerned by her manner. 'This is a place to be quiet and chill out,' I was reminded. So, if you have children/teenagers who like splashing about and making noise, I do not recommend this cottage for you and I feel the owner should state this explicitly on the website. On our final night, the owner stopped my wife and reminded her there was a 50 euro cleaning charge if the house wasn't clean enough for guests arriving next day. 'It is my house', the owner said, 'and all I want to have to do is change the bedclothes.' We always tidy up before we leave any holiday home but, we paid a lot of money for a week's stay, and resented the fact that the owner seemed to expect paying guests to prepare the cottage for other visitors. In summary, our holiday was adversely affected by the owner. We felt over-looked, inhibited, stifled and we felt the owner had somewhat missed the principle of the whole enterprise: that a house is rented for a week and should feel like home from home. We won't be returning."

"Annie our host was lovely, very welcoming and friendly. The house and garden are simply divine! The house is big and well furnished and homely. The garden is huge and a delight for all of us. Our Grandchildren loved the well equipt play room and enjoyed the space and freedom of the garden and wooded areas. Our only complaint was the level of cleanliness in the kitchen and play room which we pointed out to Annie on our departure and she promised to rectify for the next guests. It is a big house, however she charges for cleaning separately so really the house should be spotless and she agreed.Overall we will be back it is a lovely house, don't be put off by my comments above it really is worth staying here and the village is lovely with 2 artisan bakeries to die for."

"To begin with the directions to the place were poor. We had come from Domme and drove past the property into the village to then find signs sending us back the way we came up a long and winding hill. Location is central for main attractions but very much out in the middle of nowhere, a car is essential. On the positive the property is very quiet, and comfortable, the gardens are lovely with lots of wildlife. The pool is great, a decent size but is shared by the adjoining property. This wasn’t a problem as we were out most days and only tended to use it towards the end of the day, there were plenty of sun loungers around the pool.At the end of the lane we discovered a local farm ran its own traditional restaurant. This was amazing and definitely worth going to."

"Beautiful location and villa. Beds very uncomfortable. Pool is situated out of site of the villa by the owners home. Therefore had to supervise the pool so couldn’t bbq with kids in pool etc or no big wine glasses or glasses for soft drinks only tiny glasses. Owner provided tonnes of pool towels which was very helpful but we had no guest towels. We went in a very very hot week (38 degrees) and inside villa was too hot so actually left early but not owners fault plenty of fans provided but will be looking for air conditioned place next time. Lots of facilities available like table tennis and bikes to use. Location is fab but quite a trek to the bigger tourist places."
