"We did not use the property as a holiday accommodation as such, it was used as a convenient place to stay while we are attending a special event. (As this was a one-off this is the reason we do not intend to return). We also visited friends and relatives while we were in the area. It was particularly useful because we have a small dog and it's quite difficult to find places that will accept them.It has a pleasant outlook at the back of the house where you can watch sailing boats going back and forth. The property is spacious with plenty of cupboard space in the kitchen and especially the front bedroom. The bathroom has a shower which has a decent flow, especially for an electric one.At the rear of the house there is a wide conservatory that doubles as the dining room with pleasant views as you're eating. However there were a few niggles. Even with the brightness turn to maximum the flatscreen TV has a dark picture. The conservatory at the back has only one working opening window, the other one has a note on it that is not be used, it gets extremely hot in there when the sun shines in a short space of time. DO NOT, whatever you do, contemplate leaving a dog in their with the door shut, even with the window open!I could not get in through the front door, I could only get out. If the side door was locked and went out through the unlocked front door but left the keys inside you would not be able to back into the house.Apart from these issues I would recommend the place as it is very clean and spacious with a wide selection of DVDs to entertain adults and children if the weather is not behaving itself in. There is also good-sized strip of grass across the back for children to play on."

"The property was well equipped, clean and tidy if a little dated. The views over the estuary were lovely and changed on a daily basis with various sea craft passing by. The visitors book said you could swim in the estuary but I certainly wouldn't want to. It was muddy and stank of seaweed. However, the beach is well worth a visit when the tide is out as there were lots of different types of seabirds to see. Unfortunately, that's where it ended for us.The beds were comfortable but same can't be said about the chairs in the living room. The sofa was ok but the armchairs are the most uncomfortable chairs we have sat on.I find it hard to believe that not one person has mentioned the very noisy road at the front of the property. The road is made of concrete slabs, the same you find on motorways with enhanced tyre noise to match. Every time a car went over the joins there was a bump, bump. The road led down to a large caravan park approximately 50m down the road so the noise was constant. The rear garden was split in two by a public footpath so there was no privacy when sitting at the table in the garden as people were walking past constantly. It was really annoying to be woken by people stopping to talk about Fido early in the morning. The last straw was a group of young girls screeching at the top of their voices (probably on the beach) in the early hours of the Thursday morning. We came home a day early and won't be staying again."

"The accommodation itself was basic but generally clean and comfortable . The patio/ rear outside area was covered in bird droppings and not conducive to sitting outside/eating. possibly unhealthy. The end of the paved area was being used as a dump for old concrete and soil and someone had dumped old chicken bones which could have been harmful for our dog At the front a soil pipe for the associated house was leaking raw sewage. Car parking was confined. The preliminary information said the accommodation was 50 yds from the beach . Although true it did not say that the beaches were closed due to long term renovation work and also dogs are not allowed anyway. This was a big disappointment but we found good dog beach walks at Frinton and Walton on the Naze and south Clackton. It is a pity that the outside of the property was so neglected as a little attention could have given it a much higher rating"

"hi on the face of it when we arrived all looked ok but on moving the table in the kitchen we found a half chewed dog treat and a dirty old shoe. the cottage is not too bad but in need of a total update for the price. The vertical blinds fell apart when you moved them and the bedroom roller blind cord broke or was broken i had to do a temporary repair in order to work it.Also the outside decking is dangerous as it has loose planks and screws and nails sticking my 18 month granddaughter cut her foot on it.overall in need ( other comments in guest book) of a total update"

"My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Walnut Cottage. The owners Julian and Penny made us feel so welcome. The cottage provided everything we needed for our stay in a practical way. When I requested an iron and ironing board Julian provided that for us. You need transport to get to other places as this is in a rural area with a long country road to walk down to the main road. The setting is beautiful if you appreciate the lovely scenery around you. The property is also close to Hatfield Forest which is a 15 minutes drive away."
