"The positives are that the house is big, the fire is fantastic and is very well equipped for large groups, in fact it was probably had some of the largest cooking pans we had ever had in a rented house. It was lovely and warm due to the fire and the main barn are was very sympathetically done and was a great space to eat and socialise. The rooms were comfortable although the beds were simple doubles, a shame as the bedrooms are large and bigger beds would make such a difference. We did have an issue but it was resolved by the Estate manager that day which was vey good. There were a few negatives but nothing that would prevent us from returning. The main issue is the water pressure in the showers which was very poor - everyone had to take it in turns which for a large group was not ideal. Also not every bathroom had a shower and as most people prefer them, bathrooms with them, had to be used my multiple people. The actual design of the house is a little awkward in terms of flow. Due to fact that the cars were generally parked at the back in the courtyard space, when entering the leaving the house the doors into the kitchen were used as the main doors. All the space to keep muddy and in our case, wet boots and jackets however was located by the front door on the other side of the kitchen. A small thing that was just annoying. The sink leaked and the dishwasher stopped working but a plumber was sent out and fixed them on the same day. We did however have a great time despite the weather"

"Clearly hadn't properly checked the property details before hand, because on arriving at South Barn discovered it was attached to the North Barn! Envy then crept in, because the North Barn had a large open plan expanse of glass at the front, emitting lots of natural light as one might expect from a barn conversion. This provided bright open space directly benefiting the combined lounge/dining room and kitchen. The South Barn's front facing lounge area was very restricted in size by comparison, with the very spacious open plan kitchen/dining room behind it suffering from a real lack of natural light as it only had the benefit of one relatively small window at the rear. The barn provided a very good choice of well fitted and mostly spacious bedrooms, with one small gripe which concerned lack of storage (cupboards/wardrobes) in some rooms. Only other small gripe concerned the restricted parking at the front where you accessed the property (although there was further parking at the rear) which only allowed for three cars. Likewise the adjoining property (which shared the space) only permitting parking for three cars. All our party very much enjoyed there stay, and the splendid facilities offered by the South Barn, however if we were considering staying again, we would reduce our number to ten and book the adjoining North Barn instead."

"What a location! We spent a week long family holiday here (2 children under 10yrs), and only used the car once. There is so much on the doorstep, from the lovely flat river walks, to museums, parks, castles, historic walls, and so many restaurants and cafes. As city holidays go, this was perfect. Close to the centre, but away from the traffic. There was some occasional noise from people making their way home at night, but it wasn't overly intrusive. The house is generally well equipped, although a few more glasses and plates would be more useful than the numerous egg cups and jugs. The dishwasher was a welcome bonus. There is good comfortable seating, and the heating was cosy and also easily controllable. My only criticism is the comfort of the beds... I am a bit fussy, as I think a good nights sleep on holiday is so important, and I wish all accommodation providers would invest a bit more in quality mattresses. The mattresses were pretty firm, with minimal padding, the first couple of nights were extremely restless, but we did then start to adapt to the firm sleep. The upstairs floors are also rather creaky, but never disturbed the children.Overall, this is an excellent choice for a York holiday, either for a couple or a family. We would highly recommend it."

"On the edge of a large housing estate this property was surprisingly quiet & a lovely place to stay. As the owners house is above the property I think we were lucky they were away for the week ensuring we had a greater level of privacy & quiet than might perhaps be the normal case. The property was fine but on arrival there is some incomplete work at the front of the house, also an area of decking on the lower level where work is ongoing - I think these need to be finished off as soon as possible. A very minor critism is that one had to go into the bedroom to get a decent Wi-Fi signal, it barely worked for me in the lounge. Two of our party have very basic Sky packages but this property had far fewer channels (or we failed to find them). However, picture quality was excellent on the terrestial channels & the few others we found. This was fine for us but as there has been a previous negative review relating to Sky perhaps the expectations need to be set a little lower by making it clear which Sky channels are available. We enjoyed our stay, bedrooms, bathrooms & kitchen were excellent, we found the lounge a little cramped but the hot tub was excellent as was the various garden spaces."

"The place was very clean, but there was things that ruined it for me. They are as followZip and link bed was uncomfortable and had feather quilt and pillows, which with asthma is a no no.Hot tub stank of stale water and there was no smell of chlorine, which is strange.Every morning at 7am it sounded like an elephant was upstairs stomping around, had no lie in on holiday as this just woke you up and kept you up.In the kitchen you have all the equipment to bake a cake, but no oven trays. There are different settee's in the place to the pictures, and if there is 4 of you it is very compact. They are uncomfortable and very small. You are in a residential estate and are a very long walk away from shops or pubs, need a car.But the place was clean, you were provided with towels and everything you need to start your holiday. The owners were friendly and kept away all of the holiday, so you cannot complain about that. But despite my complaints we still had a good holiday, so it is not all bad. Just a few things annoyed us."
