"We stayed here as a family of four, for a week in October and it was fantastic. I don't feel that the photos actually do the cottage, its facilities and surroundings full justice. The cottage itself is extremely cosy and warm (I didn't know what to expect from under floor heating but it was really warm) and had everything we needed in the kitchen with bed linen, towels and cosy blankets provided. There is a bath and a separate shower upstairs plus an additional toilet down stairs. Sky TV was a great bonus. There isn't a washing machine so families need to bear this in mind but there is a drying rack which we used for our swimming cosies. The entrance hall is nice and big with good storage for coats and shoes etc. The facilities were perfect, our boys made full use of the full sized table tennis table and pool table and the pool just next door, which we had all to ourselves (the shepherds hut which is also on the site was not booked out but this only sleeps two and is sheltered behind a hedge away from the cottage which keeps it private). It felt like such a treat and was so relaxing. It was easy to get to and find but feels remote when you are there and the living room doors open straight onto a wonderful view of fields and woodlands and there is very little light pollution so it was great to see the stars at night. The only interruptions were from the pheasants wandering past the windows in the morning. It is only about 5 miles to Uttoxeter which has Waitrose and Tesco (we got a Tesco delivery on the first night which saved a lot of hassle) and its well located for a lot of activities, we went to Jodrell Bank, Twycross Zoo and Splash World at Alton Towers, but there is also Sudbury Hall (National Trust), Monkey Forest, and Adventure Farm and Brewery tours at Burton on Trent, all close by. The cottage owners were really friendly and welcoming and have created a lovely holiday retreat."

"Although there is not very much room for dining indoors it is an ideal pied a terre for a couple (and well-behaved dog) who like dining out. There are two very good eating places quite nearby. The drive way is a bit bumpy but I understand the owner is going to extend the outside patio area to provide further comfort for guests. The owner is terrific. She goes to a lot of trouble to be helpful and accommodating. It really is a charming barn conversion in a delightful area. I should add that although the property is open plan with no internal doors a stair gate has been provided which makes it clear to a smart pooch that the upstairs bedroom is out of bounds. It might also be useful to know that we brought a few carpet squares for our pup as the laminate floors are quite slippery for dogs. Excellent behaviour from pets is vital as there's livestock nearby. There is quite easy access to beautiful countryside all around by car. Our stay was too short to investigate local walks."

"arrived and key was in key safe as per arranged. everything we needed in the cottage including a lovely Christmas tree. Rooms well furnished and comfy. Excellent Welcome 'pack' including treats for the dogs. property is co-joined to the owners cottage, but there is enough privacy. lovely views over the fields. Ashbourne is only 2 miles away (with an aldi on the way in) with all the moochy shops you would need and a co-op and waitrose accessable from the main car park (nice park to walk the dogs around too). the owners even posted the phone charger we left as well !( Nice touch). would love to return again."

"Had a great time only wanted to have a chill out weekend and that's what we did we only had a short walk which was around 4miles, spent most of the holiday chilling in the pool and relaxing on the terrace. We normally travel with all our older children with their families so this would not normally be big enough for us but it was fine for this short break as we only took our daughter and her partner and her new 6week old baby, so this was perfect for what we wanted. We normally when travelling in England, Wales, Scotland we like to take our dog but unfortunately was unable to take her on this holiday."

"I am taking part in a novice triathlon in July so chose this particular cottage as there was a swimming pool which enabled me practice swimming daily. The owners, the swimming pool, the cottage , the surroundings were all wonderful and definitely exceeded our expectations . We were able to hire bikes locally and cycle along the Tissington Trail and there are so many amazing walks in the area. I am writing a blog of my training and have used the photograph of the cottage and pool in the last article. jennystri70.wordpress.com"
