"We had a lovely week at Park View Barn. We had perfect weather that helped, so we spent a lot of time in the 'sun room' and south facing garden. We have two dogs and the garden was secure and big enough for them to investigate smells and noises without feeling hemmed in. The trees in the garden were full of ripe apples that kept falling from the branches, so we utilised them - and the wonderful kitchen - by making apple cake and apple crumble. The walks in the woods nearby were excellent too. Going to a new area with dogs is always a little unnerving as you want to be sure they are safe and not going to get lost. The wide mown pathways meant it was easy to keep a track on where the dogs were and it was easy to find your way around. The location is beautiful and waking up to see horses and chickens out the window was lovely. And the sunrises and sunsets were stunning too. You truly felt like you were in the middle of nowhere. However, if you did want to go anywhere it was not far to civilisation. Only two things were disappointing, one the road to the property is unmade so if you have a heavily laden car with not great suspension - look out! The other was the shower, not overly safe if you have mobility issues or are unsteady on your feet. We would visit again. We needed a week away to relax and do nothing. This property allowed us to do this and not feel guilty about being lazy!"

"We hired Stenson Hill Farm for our annual large group holiday and were impressed. We are 5 families with 9 adults and 8 children and 1 dog.The bedrooms and bathrooms were adequate in number. The bedrooms are large and comfortable. The water pressure of the showers could be improved. The kitchen is large with two tables and chairs, there is an additional large dining table in the conservatory, which was great to seat all. The sitting room is huge with comfortable sofas and a very large fireplace. The games room was a hit with children and adults. The outside space is brilliant, a well kept lawn areas where we could play rounders and the dog had he freedom to run around safely as it is not near any main roads of other farms. We drove a short distance to Markeaton park which is situated in nice surroundings, which has a boating lake and high wire activity that the children enjoyed. We also enjoyed brunch at a lovely pub on the canal called 'the malt shovel'The manager is highly attentive and professional. I would recommend this venue."

"On The Plus Side: The cottage is beautiful and sits in an open landscape surrounded by fields. The double bifold doors are a real wow factor! On the Down Side: The reason we went with this cottage and paid the extra money over and above similar cottages was the onsite facilities. Unfortunately the Hot Tub hadn't been cleaned and despite informing the owner that it did not heat up and needing cleaning the issue was not resolved during our stay. We figured a BBQ on the last night would be a great way to finish off our last evening only to find the BBQ was in an even worse state. It had clearly not been checked on change overs and was covered in grease that had started to grow mould. it had clearly been in this state for some time. This could have been a 10/10 if the owner had resolved the issue with the hot tub and the BBQ but unfortunately we received no response from him. Very poor customer service!"

"We enjoyed our stay at Forest View. The décor is very well thought out and the cottage was spotlessly clean with good quality fixtures and fittings. We enjoyed watching the planes fly over on the approach to the airport, although may disrupt sleep during hot weather as windows have to be left open and no fan. There are a few things that would have made our stay more comfortable:A blind at the en-suite window is a must.Ditto the lounge bi-folding windows need blinds to provide privacy and help shield the room during hot sunny days.More hangers, or ideally a wardrobe or hanging rail in each room.Shelves and hooks in the shower room to put toiletries and hang clothes on – we had to move a table in from the lounge. The website mentions patio and ipod dock but these were not present.Instructions for hobb, coffee-maker, recycling etc would be helpful."

"Despite a couple of harsh scores above, we absolutely loved this place and the owners are super. It's exceptional value for money, as long as you don't expect the Ritz! If you like peace and tranquility, we've yet to find anywhere better in the UK (though we were lucky in that the other lodge on the site was unoccupied for most of our stay). Could just do with a bit of TLC in places, i.e. the veranda, which looks beautiful in the pictures but in reality is in desperate need of a rub down and coat of varnish. It was lethal in the wet.... The main oven didn't work either, so lucky we weren't a big family - the grill/oven sufficed fine, for us! Overall, a cracking, good value place which - if they only allowed dogs - we'd happily revisit. Definitely a good find."
