"We really enjoyed our stay at Hare Cottage. The owner was very welcoming and left us bread, biscuits, milk, butter and muesli along with a range of condiments. There were also logs for the woodburner and bowls and towels for the dog. He lives next door in what appears to be a converted garage and so was on hand for any problems (we didn't have any), without being intrusive. The bungalow is much bigger than it looks with a large double height extension, a sunny conservatory and a garden. Good for birdwatching from the conservatory. There is a large sitting area in the extension but the original sitting room is more cosy and has a TV and the woodburner. There is only seating for 3 in this area but we brought in a comfortable seat from the sofa in the extension. The location and local amenities have been marked down slightly because the cottage is a little remote from any village centre and on a main road. There are some nice walks in the immediate area. However, this seems a little unfair because we knew this would be the case before we booked. The bedrooms do get a little road noise but nothing that should put anyone off from booking. Perfectly quiet in the living areas. One big bonus is the Blue Bell pub a few yards away - excellent food and good hand-pulled beer. Best to book. All in all, a very pleasant stay, Thank you Martin."

"A great base to explore the northern coast of Northumberland as was just off A1 but in a quiet village location. The cottage was ideal for us to take our aging parents as it had two double downstairs bedrooms (as well as a double for us upstairs) and an extra shower room downstairs. The extra sitting room upstairs was lovely too. Being a stone cottage it was a little cool when we came in as it was a cool week but we put on the radiators so we were fine. Oven and washing machine worked well and we were left a welcome pack of tea , coffee milk, wine, biscuits and twiglets as well as washing up liquid and a few dishwasher tablets. We were prepared as we knew we were in a rural location with the nearest shop being on the A1 services- hence the low score for local amenites. However, as a rural quiet base for exploring with a car it is ideal. We were delighted with our choice - a traditional feel with modern facilities in an excellent location Parking was great for the two cars."

"Spent a 3 night weekend with friends in Hare Cottage & we all agree we can't recommend it highly enough. The older part of the cottage has a traditional feel with a large log fire, hand crafted dining room table, all the kitchen facilities you could need & a comfy TV area. The mezzanine room is more modern but is still a relaxing place to spend time & is really quite stunning. I have only marked down on local amenities as apart from the local Inn there is not much within a short distance but then that is usually the point of these breaks. I have marked higher on location as it is a lovely part of the world. The Blue Bell Inn is very close to the cottage & we had a meal there & a few drinks on 2 out of the 3 nights we stayed. The food & beer were very good & reasonably priced. All in all you won't regret spending time here."

"Very historic style of accommodation, very spacious and clean. The location is fantastic for exploring historic Berwick-on-Tweed, with it's barracks, wall walk and riverside walks. Several restaurants are in easy walking distance and there are several pubs, which were lively at the weekend. The down sides are; steps and steep slopes around Berwick - access to the front door of the property is via two flights of granite steps. Steps inside the property, because it is on two levels, the kitchen and bathroom are down stairs from the bedroom and living room (a little in convenient for loo visits in the early hours- though apparently this may change to the bathroom being on the same level). The steps inside the property are well carpeted and comfortable and safe to walk on."

"Tara Cottage is a spacious yet cosy home. Ann was very welcoming and made the whole family including two dogs very welcome. Our 6yr old son is still talking about the fresh eggs that we got from the farmer, admittedly they were the freshest eggs I’ve had since my childhood and they were scrumptious. The cottage was very clean and well equipped and we had everything that was needed to cater for the whole family. The garden is beautiful as are the views from every window within the cottage. It is a very peaceful location and fantastic base for exploring the region and beyond.Excellent value for money, and the best cottage we’ve stayed in.Big thank you to Ann and Alistair for helping us make wonderful family memories."
