"When we arrived at the premises Hillcroft, it was blowing a gale and raining. However when we entered the premises there were electric storage heaters installed, but they we not switched on. The only other heating was an electric convector heater on the wall in the bedroom! Also, there was only a thin summer quilt on the double bed, and no additional bedding in the premises. When the owner arrived at 6:00PM, she stated that we could not use the storage heaters as they used too much electricity! Instead she offered a small oil filled electric radiator, and a winter quilt for the bed! We then found that there were no instructions for the bath shower, and the plug in the bathroom since did not hold the water in. As a result, we had to wash in the kitchen sink! The toilet seat was loose, and when you flushed the toilet it flushed twice by itself. There were no coat hangers in the wardrobe, so coats and shirts could only be hung on the back of the front door at the bottom of the stairs. The kitchen equipment was basic, with only essential utensils, the light over the cooker did not work, and was replaced by a battery light, but the batteries were dead! Need I say anymore! As a result of the cold accommodation, and the other points above, we have left the premises this morning. From the initial response by the owner I did not bother to raise these points with her."

"Just got back from a week at the Stables (12th to 19th August). Two adults and our 7yr old Grandson. This is a lovely cottage with everything that you need for a relaxing week or as a base for exploring Kent and London. Spotlessly clean with good quality beds and bedding. (If you like a firm pillow, bring this with you as the pillows are feather filled and luxuriously soft). Mark was on hand for information and advice, but was also respectful of privacy etc. He had the balance perfect. If you like dogs, Bramble and Fudge are a delight, visiting regularly to say hello. Our Grandson loved the swimming pool and playing with Mark's Great Niece and Nephew. In fact we loved the whole grounds, William loved collecting fruit straight from the trees and making a fruit crumble!! I would recommend The Tudor Rose - just outside the gates - wonderful food and service. After a busy day in London, it was lovey coming back to such a peaceful setting."

"Belmont Cottage is a hidden gem. This was a last minute booking in August to visit family, and there were not many properties available. This property was fully booked except for the week we wanted so we opted to choose it, albeit it is in an area we were not too sure about. We are very glad we did. The cottage is very comfortable, containing everything required (including 2 excellent T.V.'s!) The garden here is such a bonus, a really lovely area to sit out and for the dog to explore. On street parking was not really a problem, we usually managed to park next to property, or nearby. I walked the dog in the local cemetery not far away. It is vast, dog friendly (on a lead) lots of paths, and and trees, and many interesting gravestones. Dog bin at entrance. The Minster promenade is also very attractive. Dogs welcome by the beach huts to swim and walk off lead - shale beach and footpath. We would definitely return."

"Just returned from a week’s break at The Stables over half term and can’t recommend it highly enough. The accommodation has been really well converted, with comfortable rooms that are all tastefully decorated. The cottage sits in the expansive and beautifully maintained grounds of Upnor Castle House, overlooking the castle and the River Medway. It’s a truly stunning location. My sons (7 and 10) had great fun exploring and playing football and croquet. They also made some use of the swimming pool. Mark, the owner, was always on hand to advise about the local area and my kids loved playing with his dogs, Bramble and Truffle. We had some good day trips to the Clip n Climb centre in Tonbridge, Chislehurst Caves and Capstone Country Park in Gillingham. All in all, The Stables is a great place to stay and we’d love to return in the future."

"Located on the grounds of Upnor Castle, this property has great views of the Castle and all the grounds. The Stables is private as it is located behind a high wall that surrounds the whole property. The owners, Nicky and Mark live on the grounds in the house nearby. They are both very kind and helpful. The dogs , Fudge and Bramble are very friendly and calm dogs. The Stables is a great accommodation for a holiday. It has a reasonable sized kitchen and dining, a bathroom upstairs with a shower and a bath and downstairs there is a toilet. The living room is quite big and comfortable. Upstairs, the bedrooms are a reasonable size and are really comfortable. The place is very clean. Also, Upnor is not very far away from the shops in Strood, only a quick 5-10 minute drive depending on which shops you go to."
