"I stayed at Rose Cottage with my partner, my parents and our dog. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rose Cottage. The location is perfect for Salisbury (10 minute drive from the nearest park and ride) and a 10 minute drive from stone henge. It is in a small village with a farm shop selling pies, cakes and vegetables and a pub called the Boot Inn that had a wide selection of lunches and evening meals. However, the shop was shut on Monday, our day of arrival. The cottage itself is gorgeous, just as I would imagine a cottage to be. The front garden is perfectly cared for. However, we took a miniature dog with us and he could have got out of the garden between the trees or through the gate. Not a problem as we had taken his extender lead with us so kept him on that. The family have thought of everything! They had a doggy cupboard with a selection of items for dogs - and had even provided the details of the nearest vets. Everything you could possibly need and more was provided. Child gate, hand washes with every sink, tissues, drinking straws, spare serviettes and plentiful cutlery are just a few of the items we were surprised to find. The family had also provided lots of information about the surrounding area, including tourists leaflets, local magazines and a list of the closest supermarkets with postcodes. The finishing touches were also perfect. The dinning table had already been laid and there were little teddy bears on every bed. This is our first cottage experience, and we felt the cottage was deserving of a four star rating rather than the three stars it had been given. It was a perfect place to stay and we would most definitely look to stay here again if we wanted a holiday in this area."

"Very nice cozy retreat for our January holiday. The owners were very friendly and helpful and the cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped in close proximity to the White Horse and only about five minutes' drive to local supermarkets & pub. Ancient monuments such as Stonehenge & Avebury are only 30-45 minutes away as is Lacock Abbey & the fascinating photography museum. National Trust membership is well worthwhile when exploring this area as it can save a significant amount of money. When we arrived the cottage was very cold although it warmed up very quickly and stayed warm once the heating had been on for a while. We felt that if the owners had put the heating on an hour or so before we arrived it would have felt much more welcoming.WiFi would also have been a nice touch as, although we wanted to get away from everything, the ability to check emails & research the area would have been useful. These two issues aside, I would very much recommend this cottage."

"Cottage is cosy and comfortable but compact. Owners were charming and very helpful. I have had cottage holidays since 1987 - two or three per year so I know what to expect. This is the first time a deposit has been requested and whilst it was returned, it is not a good selling point to ask for one. There were no books, games or puzzles for wet days; the information sheet had not been completed. Lots of info given verbally on arrival but you can't possibly remember it all. Access to wifi would be a good selling point. Parents should know that whilst the garden is at the back of the cottage it is not accessible without walking through the farm yard. This may be a factor for families who would want to supervise their children. The owners were very kind to us but I feel they would benefit from some advice. This is a holiday cottage and not a long term let."

"This is one of the best equipped properties we have ever stayed in. There was far more crockery etc. than 2 people would ever need for the week, and the family have thought of everything likely to be needed when self-catering. It was like staying in someone's home. In spite of the freezing weather the cottage was always warm, with the electric heating being easily controlled. The family are very considerate and helpful and thoughtfully left us a bottle of wine and vase of daffodils for our arrival. Extra personal touches include DVDs, numerous books, board games, jigsaw puzzles etc. and lots of local information, as well as general tourist information. We seldom stay in the same area twice but may well consider returning here as it is so well situated for visiting several places of interest."

"The cottage was extremely well equipped with everything that one might require. All was clean & very comfortable. The elaborate planting of the garden areas was both a joy to the eye as well as ensuring privacy. The 4 bedrooms meant we had various relatives to stay for varying short periods who we would have been unable to see during such a fully planned fortnight. It was interesting to be able to see what life could be like in a such a "Chocolate Box Village" as Berwick St. James for the relatively small percentage of the UK population who could afford the (presumably very high) local property prices - many residents either had a Mercedes-Benz set of wheels parked kerbside or an immaculately clean & shiny large 4WD which seemed unlikely ever to leave the black-top."
