"Staying at Chateau Gombardy was all we hoped for and more. My large family (20 of us including my husband and me, our children, and grandchildren) have a vacation together each summer, and thanks to my daughter Jessica's research, we chose Gombardy for our trip this past June. David Jones, owner, was efficient, professional and pleasant to deal with in setting up the week long rental. Janet Eastman, property concierge and tour hose, worked closely with us via email and phone prior to our visit to up a week's worth of age-appropriate activites and meals. She thought through every detail on our behalf, and provided options and suggestions we could choose from, prompting us to schedule things timely given the season, making all the arrangements and pre-purchasing tickets as needed for our group. She arranged transportation from Charles de Gaulle Airport for our group that came from different locations at different times to the Chateau and then back to Paris after our visit was over. The chateau was PERFECT for our group. Each person/ couple had their own room, plenty of space, beautiful grounds, fun at the pool and tennis court, and perhaps best of all, a feeling of freedom and peacefulness. The Chateau grounds are so pretty, we enjoyed just walking around for pre-dinner strolls. An ample laundry room, the carriage house for our older sons, fresh croissants each morning brought by the groundkeeper and his wife, the housekeeper, were memorable treats. They took great care of us without being overbearing. Really sweet people. A couple of trips to town to the market to stock up on stacks and drinks worked will for our lunches when at the chateau and late night card and board games in the kitchen. I recommend:Working with Janet to plan your trip and be your trip guide for outings. Having the chef come to the Chateau to fix memorable and well planned dinners,Saying 'oui' to fresh baked goods and simple eggs and coffee breakfast each morning Bring your swimsuits and tennis racquets, rent bikes for those who wish to ride around in the beautiful countryside. Visiting the Chateau Amboise and Clos Luce (Leonardo da Vinci), the chocolatier, biscuit maker, wineries etc. etc. All in all, it was a memorable week that we enjoyed tremendously and would do again to continue exploring the beautiful Loire Valley region. I felt the people we worked with and who tended us at the Chateau became my friends by the end of the week. For me, the mark of a good vacation is feeling like I actually had a vacation while making sure the needs of my big family are met. Our week at Chateau Gombardy was exactly that. And last, but not least, for our size group for whom I plan an annual trip somewhere, the cost of the Chateau was about half the cost for hotel rooms in Maui last year."

"'We have stayed at Chateau Du Raguermiere at Easter and Summer and fell in love with it as soon as we visited it the first time. It is very luxuriously decorated in a subtle mix of 19 century style and trendy designer pieces which blend very well to give it an updated classic feel. Staying there is such a special experience and it really feels like home but with all the grandeur of the high ceilings, spacious rooms, long corridors that stretch the length of the building on each floor, immaculate gardens and grounds and the fun feeling that the chateau is really ours for the time we are there! Our children and their friends have enormous fun playing endless games of ‘it’, hide and seek, swimming, running up to the fruit and vegetable garden to choose things they ask John to prepare for their supper, or picking and eating as much fruit as they can. We all tried archery, boules and Frisbee golf and took the bikes out to Langeais. My husband runs the jogging trail and we both used the gym. Caroline even found a Personal Trainer to visit while we stayed, to help to motivate us. John and Caroline are wonderful – helpful, friendly and happy to shop, cook, tidy up and babysit as much as we want; yet never around too much. We have many special memories of delicious, beautifully presented lunches by the pool; evening drinks and canapes in the courtyard or drawing room and superb dinners served in the dining room. Often we just wandered down into Langeais to the local cafes and restaurants for lunch and dinner as it’s such an easy and pleasant walk past the huge Langeais chateau. There’s lots of choice including a pizzeria, creperie, gastronomic restaurants, lots of cafes plus ice cream and chocolate shops. John and Caroline booked some restaurants for us before we arrived in France as we wanted to plan some nights out without the children, so we wandered down to Langeais for dinner while Caroline babysat. The children love them both! The people in the shops, cafes and restaurants speak English and are very friendly; and the town is so nice as it is definitely French and not too touristy. The Sunday market in Langeais is amazing and definitely worth visiting, with every kind of food, crockery, leather goods, clothing, shoes and curios for sale. We would highly recommend holidaying at Chateau De Raguermiere, as it’s our dream place to stay and we only wish we could book it up more often.’ The N Family, Berkshire, UK"

"First off, Frederique was a first-rate hostess who went out of her way for us. Due to a problem at home, we didn't have a gps with us and the car rental place didn't have one, so I called Frederique and she came and led us to the cottage right away and then lent us a spare gps she had on hand to use for the duration of our stay, which was a Godsend. My first impression of Le Lierre Cottage was that it was even more charming and beautiful in person than the photos on the website. It was immaculate and homey all at once. I especially loved the "chandelier" and clock in the kitchen made out of old pieces of cutlery. Very original. There were touches like that throughout the cottage: very unique and eye-catching small details in every room. It was only my husband and myself, so the space felt luxuriously large. We were on a delayed honeymoon that encompassed our first anniversary, though we are in our 50's/60's. The bed in the master bedroom was extremely comfortable and the room itself was very lovely. Frederique had stocked the kitchen and larder with a refrigerator full of wine, cheese and fresh strawberries, as well as fresh bread and croissants and many other delicious items in the pantry, which we dined on the first night and enjoyed throughout our stay. Again, her thoughtfulness was evident everywhere. Although it was too cool to use the pool area, I was surprised and pleased to see that it was right outside the side door of the cottage, which you can't tell from the photos on the website. Frederiques's husband, Remi's gardens were also something to behold. His dedication to creating a haven of beauty and peace has manifested in a garden that is perfectly manicured and at the same time, very creatively designed. I especially loved his topiary. There is also a long walkway into the woods that isn't evident on the website that is magical in its appeal. My only disappointment was that I didn't get to see the roses in bloom, of which there were many in bud. Last of all, I must mention Valentin, their cat. She was a wonderful, loving presence all week which was an added bonus, because I was missing our pets at home. Altogether, although we still have many other places we want to see in the world, we will be absolutely return to Le Lierre Cottage one day to celebrate another milestone anniversary. Thank you, Frederique, for a stay filled with magical memories we'll treasure forever."

"WONDERFUL COTTAGE - GREAT FOR EXPLORING THE LOIRE VALLEY CASTLES Le Lierre Cottage is "THE ONE" for any project aimed to explore in one or two weeks the best of the Loire Valley castles. A perfect location near Orleans (the Orleans Cathedral is a must-see) creates the 200 kms reach to Chambord, Blois, Cheverny, Chenonceau, Amboise, Le Clos Luce, Tours, Villandry, Azay Le Rideau, Chinon along the Loire while allowing a jump to the Chartres Cathedral to the North (plus the Castle of Chamerolles that includes a Perfume Bottles Museum, the recommendation of Frederique) for the interested ones. The cosy welcoming house in Saint-Jean-de-Braye, a suburb of Orleans, is part of a larger family property which includes the main residence, the guest house and a green tiny park. The hosts, Frederique and her husband Remy, have managed to create a "home away from home" for their guests, imbued with French charm and chic, warm and spacious enough to include a living room with fireplace, a dining room with Armagnac eager to be tasted, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equiped kitchen with breakfast table, a summer terrace with table, a swimming pool with lounge area, a friendly dog and an even friendlier cat. Who would want more? But there is more, Frederique's hospitality and Remy's smile make the experience fulfilling and unforgettable. Highly recommended!!! We shall return for sure!!!"

"‘We stayed at Chateau De Raguermiere in July 2012. It is an impressive and attractive 19th century chateau that has been very well restored and beautifully re-decorated. Though it would accommodate a large group, it has an intimate feel. The enclosed wooded grounds are very well kept (including a vegetable garden) and the large heated pool and terrace area are excellent and a sun-trap. We were well looked after and made to feel welcome by the English couple who run the estate – they have lived in France for many years. Domaine Du Fort is on the edge of the attractive small town of Langeais, on the River Loire about 15 minutes west of Tours (which is a noted gastronomic centre). We found a couple of good restaurants and interesting small shops, plus a massive fortress which is worth a visit. The main Loire Valley attractions (Chenenceaux, Villandry, Amboise, etc.) are all close by and there are several reasonably easy routes from the UK. We drove via the Channel Tunnel and near-empty motorways (via Rouen) but there are also Ryanair flights from Stansted to Tours. The other options include a very fast TGV link direct from Tours to Paris CDG airport and the Portsmouth – Caen/St Malo ferry. I’d certainly recommend it for medium and larger parties. The pool and secure grounds make it a very good place for families in the summer.’ Mr A - Henley on Thames, UK"
