"This was really quite luxurious accommodation. The super king size bed was very comfortable with fluffy towels in the bathroom. There was an extremely good range of kitchen equipment (including a dishwasher and washing machine) and central heating throughout. One of the best things was that the village (and all its shops) was within easy walking distance, with a special private gate into the back garden of the local pub (it has a skittle alley) where we ate for most of our short stay. One thing I would mention is that this accommodation is not adjacent to the owner's property, as stated, but actually downstairs from part of their living space. It has a spiral staircase ascending from the lounge (not shown in any of the photos), which is boarded off at the top, and we were slightly concerned about privacy and sound travelling. We also had to draw the owner's attention to problems with the log burner (we have had one for a number of years). He had warned us it might smoke on lighting, which it certainly did, despite following all the instructions, requiring windows to be opened and defeating its purpose of warming the room (I have a lung condition). A cold flue was blamed but we thought the draw was very poor and advised the very helpful gentleman owner that we felt the chimney needed to be checked professionally to ensure it was clear, he admitted it had not been lit by himself or other guests that often over the preceding months. I am sure this will soon be remedied as sitting in front of a real log fire is a very pleasurable thing. Despite these issues I would still highly recommend this accommodation, especially to people who enjoy country walks."

"This is a lovely and comfortable cottage located down a quiet lane in the beautiful village of Dunster in an area just below Dunster castle and gardens and adjacent to an old water mill. The cottage is a former bungalow which has been extended such that is has four generous sized bedrooms and two bathrooms. There is a large open plan kitchen/sitting room area, a separate conservatory for dining and a second sitting room/games room. The garden is well maintained has seating and BBQ equipment and is completely enclosed. Its a well lit house and very peaceful - the only sounds at night are the owls calling. Its a very short walk into the centre of Dunster with lots of pubs, cafes and restaurants to choose from and you can do lovely walks from the house up the adjacent hill side. Some small downsides are: the kitchen is rather small if you are keen on cooking as we are, its quite tight to steer cars in and out of the drive onto the lane, there is only a corner bath not one you can lie down in. Other than that this place comes highly recommended. The house really does have a great atmosphere and feels like a home not a holiday rental."

"The cottage met our requirements for my son and myself for an HQ with our dog to explore Exmoor. We were grateful for the provision of a wood burning stove as the boiler for the heating and hot water gave up during our first of 4 nights at the cottage. Unfortunatley, it was not mended until the middle of our visit which meant we had 2 days of no heat or hot water which is not pleasant in January! On the second evening the son of the owner tried to sort out the problem with a couple of cans of oil but it only made the situation worse as the boiler belched out noxious fumes which came into the house before giving up again. We were given an extra load of wood in compensation. There is no phone reception at the cottage and the internet was intermittent so that communications were difficult. The village shop at Wheddon Cross which also has a garage next door is first rate withh all the basics and a number of locally produced products."

"Stables Cottage is very overlooked front and back. No curtains everyone could see you in the kitchen, or going to the bedroom and bathroom. Couldn't open bathroom window as it went straight onto someones patio. No extractor fan in bathroom or kitchen, shower so outdated it made a very loud noise when in use. Double bedroom doors handle very stiff, twin bedroom door hard to close and awful lighting, plus smelt of damp. Not enough bath sheets more like hand towels provided. The drive outside was a mixture of pebbles, cobbles, slate some of which was loose and I tripped several times. Also caught my hand on gate to paddock twice. At night there was hardly ANY lighting at all so walking the dogs was a joke. Torch provided was useless. Owners seemed to be cutting hedges constantly. Would not go back but enjoyed gardens and pool ( although cold )."
