"The cottage is in a lovely area of the Highlands and is reached via a restricted access road, which sounds bad but isn't really a problem. On reaching the cottage we noticed that the owners have it on the sales market and it's surrounds looked in need of a wee tidy up and a bit of TLC. There is another cottage being built next door to Castle Hill but the whole week we were there we never encountered any builders so there was no building noise going on.The views are beautiful and very picturesque and It's only a mile walk to the beach so the dog got all the exercise she needed every morning. The entrance was clean and the bedrooms were clean in the main. However the master bedroom on-suite bin was full of ladies used sanitary products from a previous renter. The smell of smoke when the lounge door was opened was strong. It had a wood burning fire the door seals of which no longer work so when it's used the smoke escapes into the room. We were told the first stack of logs were to be supplied free but the basket was empty and the burner had not been cleaned out and was full of ashes. Logs can easily be purchased locally so it's not an issue if you want to use the burner. The kitchen was clean and the dishes, glasses etc were clean and tidied away. The kitchen has a professional cooker which is easy to operate. The microwave rotating plate had not been cleaned and had remains of spilled food sticking to it. Usually when we book cottages we find the fridge/freezer cleaned out but this time although the fridge was empty the freezer had previous renters left-over frozen food still in the drawers.None of the issues I mentioned were show stoppers and prevented us enjoying our holiday and we would go back to this area, as we have on previous cottage holidays. However I don't think Castle Hill cottage would be one that we would rent again."

"A pleasant cottage but not one for anyone with an issue getting about. It is located on an extremely steep hill which means a difficult climb when you go out for a walk with the dog. The stairs going up to the bedroom leading off the kitchen has quite a tight turn at the top. The cottage has all the utensils you could possibly need for cooking and the kitchen, snug and sitting rooms all have wood burning fires. The sitting room has the TV in it but it is impossible to relax and watch it due to the condition of the only settee in it. The cushions gave up the ghost a long time ago and the settee should be sent to the local dump. The garden is enclosed which is ideal for a dog or small children however there’s a lot of wooden boards and other rubbish proped against the side of the cottage which children could hurt themselves with. There is a decking area at the rear of the cottage but the first step of the staircase has rotted through throwing doubt as to the condition of the rest. The master bedroom has French doors leading out to this decking area but we couldn’t find a key to them so they would be useless as a means of escape if a fire broke out cutting of the escape to the kitchen. This is the 9th time we’ve rented a cottage in the highland area so we’re able to compare to previous rentals. Summing up Kate’s Croft is a clean cottage that needs a bit of clearing up and a bit of TLC to the outside plus that settee definitely needs replaced."

"We stayed at this Lodge for 2 weeks, we wanted some peace and quiet and also some beauty. We got both, this lodge is beautiful, it is done out to a very high specification and with great taste. It is in the most wonderful natural rural surroundings, I was often moved by the sheer beauty of nature unfolding before us, different aspects of weather creating the most lovely sights and the sheep just walking about, we also saw baby deer. There was silence of course, no road traffic then there was a hot tub that afforded us the opportunity to sit and relax at night in the dark and see the magic of the stars above. The owners were very warm and helpful towards us. There was a very generous welcome pack and a supply of logs for the log burner. We have come home healthier and happier and having walked up the hill to the lodge a few times - fitter too! I highly recommend this lodge for a true and unique 'get away from it all' place."

"A wonderful relaxing week at Capercaillie. Perfect for exploring both east and west coasts. Situated in wild and remote countryside, yet easy to access. The cottage itself is rustic, quirky, immaculately clean and very well equipped. The separate little annexe room just perfect when daughter and partner decided to come with us too. Dog friendly with lots of walks and a secure garden - lovely pond which was fenced off, although he found his way through and took a dip once (oops - sorry).Hot tub just right for relaxing after days out sightseeing, watching the sun go down over the heathery moors. Very mindful. Lovely friendly hosts, lots of helpful sightseeing suggestions including sublime pies from Lochinver. Dornoch - special little town for exploring and coffees, recommend the village store and deli! Local beaches amazing, walked for miles without seeing anyone. Thank you - loved it"

"Wow! What an awesome cottage, the views from the front garden are just something else. Everything you think you may need are here and even the wi-fi is good, which meant I could watch the Champions League Final on my laptop. What a night that was?. Found some hidden gems to visit (all within 30 mins drive) such as big burn walk, castle Sinclair and the Brora Beach behind the Golf Club is probably the best around. The owners are very informative before arrival and seem to enjoy telling you about the Cottage and the area which is rare these days, 10/10 for that. We had booked again for Christmas but will now have to cancel due to finding out (on arriving home) the wife is being made redundant. Will definitely be booking again though once we land back on our feet.Thank you"
