"We didn't know quite what to expect, but were very pleasantly surprised with the lodge itself. It had all we needed and more, including a record player! haven't used one of them in years! The lodge is one open living area, but with the bedroom part effectively separated from the kitchen/lounge by the bathroom. The bed was really comfortable, the kitchen had all we needed and the lounge had a tv with sky+ (and of course the record player). Quite a lot of the walls were covered with raw wood panels, looked really effective and a rather quirky wooden chair in the bedroom. There is a small private piece of "garden" off to the side of the lodge (to the side of the summer house), with patio table and chairs, and a lay-z-spa hot tub for your use (small extra cost). The lodge is sited between stables and the owners thatched house, the end of which is let out as Longhouse cottage. The lodge overlooks a paddock used by the six Alpacas, although they seemed to spend most of their time in another field beyond the house, they did come up at feeding time (opposite the lodge). The whole site is down the end of a rough road/track so is very secluded and peaceful. The owners were a really nice couple and very friendly. The location is good for access to East Dorset, Poole and Bournemouth, as well as the New Forest, just about 5 miles to the main A31. Roads can be quite busy at peak times of day, so I'd recommend planning that in. There are some nice quiet roads away from the main ones if you like to take the "scenic" routes. We ate out a few times locally; Drusillas Inn, Horton was OK. We ate twice at The Old Inn, Holt, first time (Steak night - Monday) was good, second time, while the food was good service was sloooooow. In short the lodge is a really nice quirky relaxing place. On our list to re-visit another time, thoroughly recommend."

"I stayed at Rose Cottage with my partner, my parents and our dog. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rose Cottage. The location is perfect for Salisbury (10 minute drive from the nearest park and ride) and a 10 minute drive from stone henge. It is in a small village with a farm shop selling pies, cakes and vegetables and a pub called the Boot Inn that had a wide selection of lunches and evening meals. However, the shop was shut on Monday, our day of arrival. The cottage itself is gorgeous, just as I would imagine a cottage to be. The front garden is perfectly cared for. However, we took a miniature dog with us and he could have got out of the garden between the trees or through the gate. Not a problem as we had taken his extender lead with us so kept him on that. The family have thought of everything! They had a doggy cupboard with a selection of items for dogs - and had even provided the details of the nearest vets. Everything you could possibly need and more was provided. Child gate, hand washes with every sink, tissues, drinking straws, spare serviettes and plentiful cutlery are just a few of the items we were surprised to find. The family had also provided lots of information about the surrounding area, including tourists leaflets, local magazines and a list of the closest supermarkets with postcodes. The finishing touches were also perfect. The dinning table had already been laid and there were little teddy bears on every bed. This is our first cottage experience, and we felt the cottage was deserving of a four star rating rather than the three stars it had been given. It was a perfect place to stay and we would most definitely look to stay here again if we wanted a holiday in this area."

"The cottage was extremely well equipped with everything that one might require. All was clean & very comfortable. The elaborate planting of the garden areas was both a joy to the eye as well as ensuring privacy. The 4 bedrooms meant we had various relatives to stay for varying short periods who we would have been unable to see during such a fully planned fortnight. It was interesting to be able to see what life could be like in a such a "Chocolate Box Village" as Berwick St. James for the relatively small percentage of the UK population who could afford the (presumably very high) local property prices - many residents either had a Mercedes-Benz set of wheels parked kerbside or an immaculately clean & shiny large 4WD which seemed unlikely ever to leave the black-top."

"We found Rose Cottage to be very well equipped for a lovely family stay. Great attention has been given to equipment needed. The kitchen is quite small and the downstairs rooms were smaller than expected. Bedrooms were a good size with comfortable beds. Bathroom with separate w.c. both good. The garden is a very pretty, typical cottage garden and contained for children. The off road parking is good. The village and road is very quiet. Pub within walking distance and excellent farm shop even closer. A warm welcome from the owner was given on arrival. We were a family of four adults, one child 5 years and one child 19 months and this property was more than adequate. It was an ideal base for touring Wiltshire."

"A gem of a place to stay - off the beaten track but within easy reach of the New Forest and other fabulous places to visit in this beautiful part of country. 'The Lodge' was a very comfortable and relaxing place to return to after a busy day, so much so we just flopped out there of an evening, had a chat with the alpacas or wiled the evening away in our private garden. The owners Maria and Lee were very friendly and helpful often suggesting great places to visit we would not have known about otherwise. A brilliant fortnight's holiday and we wouldn't hesitate to book again."
