"The cottage was pleasantly situated with a view out over the church and lane. The cottage had a fairly new kitchen and bathroom though the rest of the property was in need of a refurbishing and some of the furniture like the sofa and armchairs, recovering renewing. The twin beds were comfortable and no negative report re the double. Although reasonably clean, some areas needed attention; black mould spots on the bath side and the windows were filthy both inside and out. A nice touch was the seasonally planted boxes on front and rear window sills, a pity though, that the sills hadn’t been wiped clean. Externally the cottage was noticeably shabby compared to its neighbours. The garden was pleasant. The kitchen contents were variable, plenty of plates, only 4 mismatched bowls and lacking in non wine glasses, 3 tall tumblers and one small. The two plastic chopping boards made us shudder, criss crossed with dirt encrusted knife cuts. We didnt go beyond toast so cannot comment on the state of the pans and other stuff. We were provided with one bath towel per person, plus one hand and a mat, we had to take the kitchen towel to the bathroom so we at least had one to use for hair washing and hands. They were not great, one had bleach marks. The beds had fleece throws, I had to use mine in the night as I was cold. I ran my hand over it as I turned over, it was crusty in parts Urhgh. Fresh eggs were a nice touch though milk etc being provided is pretty much par for the course these days in cottage rentals. We rent about 3 times a year, over the country so are fairly seasoned in these matters, this cottage was well below the standard we’ve come to expect."

"Rose Cottage was in an ideal location for us visiting places around the area - Lewes, Brighton, South Downs South Coast etc, it was clean and well equipped, also a nice touch the owners of the property had left us a complimentary basket of goodies for us to appreciate Tea, Coffee, Biscuits, Sugar etc. and best of all 4 beers left in the fridge just the ticket after a long hot journey. We only met one of the owners Miss Jackson who was very helpful and hospitable and was a pleasure to meet. The minus points of the cottage were that it suffered at times from loud traffic noise from the main road situated close to the property although it wouldn't have been as noisy if we had kept the windows shut but as we were experiencing a heatwave we needed have the windows open.At the back of the property our bedroom suffered from a lack of light as there were some Leyandii trees only a few meters away blocking the light, maybe it would be an idea to cut the hight down a bit. The rear garden looked as if it needed a bit of maintenance, also we had two dogs and it wasn't as enclosed as we had expected it to be (open gaps,) basically the dogs could have easily escaped if we left them unattended for a moment. The cottage spec stated it slept 4 but there was only one lounge chair and sofa that seated 2 so it was a tight squeeze when we had relations stay with us for a couple of days. Apart from those discrepancies we really enjoyed our stay at Rose Cottage."

"This is lovely house in an excellent location and good local restaurants. We were disappointed with the house though. When you pay premium prices you expect a premium property. For example the dishwasher was broken, we couldn't get the electric induction hob to work and couldn't find instructions. It was marketed as sleeping eight but only had 5 cereal bowels and a mixture of crockery odds and ends. There were too few saucepans. One of the patio chairs had a bolt missing and was potentially unsafe. Several lights didnt work despite changing the bulbs, (not something you should have to do when you arrive). The kitchen table was too small for anything other than two people, the logburner had not been cleaned out and there were cobwebs here and there. Then you are told that to use the hot tub will cost you £150! Clearly the owner doesn't want you to use it.If these issues are addressed we would stay again but until they are we couldn't recommend it. This post has been made with the full knowledge of English Country Cottages."

"We had a wonderful stay in Freechase Farm Cottage. The cottage is beautifully restored and furnished with elegance and generous attention to detail. The grounds of the farm are beautiful and you feel very rural and secluded while only an hour outside London. There is plenty to see and explore in the surrounding area from long walks and country pubs to Gardens and children's farms. There is no mobile phone reception in the cottage but the wifi is very good. The only point to note is that, in keeping with a property of this age, the ceilings are very low. My husband who is 6'4 could only stand upright in the kitchen and master bedroom. But with a beautiful garden and lovely weather it was worth a bit of a stoop."

"cottage was lovely , there was nothing around for amenities apart from a pub 2 miles down the road , the cottage was right along side a very busy road and a busy junction roundabout just near by but you couldn't hear the traffic unless you were outside , the cottage was tidy and cleanish but care with the cleaning was needed , equipment was ok but odd things could be updated as it looks dated now , it not a very good place for walks unless you like walking along side the busy road as the nearby farmer has signs everywhere saying private land , there are plenty of shops nearby but you need a car to get to them ? , apart from that we d still stay there again but as I said needs updating abit"
