"A great venue but could have been perfect. There’s plenty of space at Rascal wood in a lovely secluded quiet location. The owner is very friendly and helpful. There’s a well equipped kitchen, spacious lounge (although not enough space for everyone to sit), large dining room/table and large bedrooms and bathrooms. There are a few issues with the property which can easily be rectified and I hope the owner looks at this and does so in the near future to make other stays perfect. Most of us found the mattresses to be past there best so replacing these would have led to a better nights sleep.Cleanliness was overall very good however we found the oven to be full of grease which wasn’t a great start to cooking. One oven didn’t get very hot either. The kitchen floor was quite dirty. I suspect the type of flooring made it difficult to clean, so bring slippers or flip flops. There were also lots of dirty chipped mugs. Also too many signs (some next to each other repeating each other). This has been mentioned in another review but not rectified. The showers were average. One shower didn’t have a workable temperature control so was quite hot but bearable. However when someone else used a shower or bath the other showers were reduced to a dribble or stopped altogether. The washing machine (and stopcock!) were in an external locked plant room so we had to phone the owner to gain access. The bbq was also locked away.Externally there was lovely space, with well looked after lawns etc. However the garden furniture was very poor and some of it dangerous, with some of it falling apart, and dirty. Replacement furniture required! We just used 2 chairs so couldn’t eat outside in the sunshine. No alfresco dining....The charcoal bbq was functional but we had to be careful moving it as it was falling apart. The games room was basic, with old equipment, but a good space for the kids to escape if they wanted to.However we did enjoy our stay but to come back we’d definitely expect several improvements."

"We were the first guests to enjoy The Crew Yard and were thoroughly spoilt. We are regular cottage bookers but are going to find future bookings difficult as the bar has been set so high here. Sophie and Phil have done an amazing job at converting the dilapidated barn that once was into an outstanding family accommodation that they would be happy to stay in themselves; it's hard to believe the picture on the wall outside the bedroom was once the actual place that is there now. A great deal of thought has obviously gone into this project and no expense has been spared in terms of furniture, decor and accessories and features such as sensor lighting in the bathrooms and wardrobes, a combination oven with a self-cleaning function and a bath in the bedroom! Everything in the property is first class - massive comfy beds with quality bedding and pillows; a very well-equipped kitchen; two wet rooms; enclosed patio; BBQ; utility with washer, drier, powder and softener and attention to detail in every room. The Crew Yard was easy to find and set in peaceful surroundings. There is a supermarket nearby and many local shops in Elsham. There is a full size tennis court; rackets and balls are provided. We enjoyed sitting by the pond in the evening and walking around the vast woodland/ field areas where there are many rabbits hopping about. The enclosed garden area was a sun trap. The welcome pack was amazing and by far the best we have ever received - teabags, milk, sugar, pods for the coffee machine, eggs and chocolates. In addition, locally produced cheese, crackers, beer, crisps and chutney. Sophie and Phil were great hosts; they met us on arrival and provided details of events that where happening locally during our stay. Since the photographs have been taken, a fence has been erected around the property, making it completely private."

"Plus pointsNice big house with plenty of space throughout, good WiFi coverage, tv's in all bedrooms, bath/shower in all bedrooms except for one, separate downstairs toilet. Negatives The cleanliness of the barn is below par, after reading some previous reviews of the property regarding cleanliness the owner ensured me that the property would be cleaned. The garden is a good size and secure for dogs as long as they can't jump as the wall to one side is around 5ft, it could also do with a lot of maintenance (and a good sweep) as there are a number of loose or missing bricks, weeds and cigarette ends. There is some sort of ratten type furniture that needs to be binned, and the bbq area is filthy with a bin next to it that doesn't look as if it's been emptied for weeks, there is also a pallet in there.Inside the barn quite a few of the windows and light fittings are covered in cobwebs and a few of the windows are painted shut which made it uncomfortably hot at the time we stayed there, the kitchen would benefit from new utensils, also in one of the bedrooms it appears to be chewing gum on one the headboards and one of the other bedrooms would benefit from a blind as there is a skylight in the ceiling and nothing to cover it.Overall disappointing, but could be so much better if the owners kept up with the maintenance and cleaning of the property The barn is in a nice friendly village and also has a coop, Chinese restaurant, fish shop, butchers and a pub"

"We enjoyed our time at Hardy's Barn but I cannot stress enough how poor I find the key system that is in place. From the outset we had to chase for information on how to enter the property. When we arrived the key was not in the app for us to use. As others have mentioned, there is only the facility for one person to have the app downloaded and in use. This is a property for groups to stay in, the probability that different sets of people will be coming and going over the course of their stay is surely going to be very high. On the second day of our stay we went out and when we returned the app would not work. A call to the management team resulted in them promising a call back but instead I received a text saying the app was down and they gave a code to the back door. Unfortunately the garden was not accessible due to the gate being locked. I had to call back a further 2 times, all the while locked out of the property. Eventually, after 40 minutes of being locked out, a lady appeared in a car, scaled the garden fence and entered a lock box that has a key card in it which we used for the remainder of our stay."

"Excellent cottage, lovely & spacious converted barn at the entrance to a lodge holiday park. Very well kept & well equipped. (Although we couldn't find an oven glove anywhere!) Our only negative comment if I was to be picky would be that although it's great having 3 en suite bathrooms, only the upstairs twin room had a proper stand up shower. The double room upstairs has a jacuzzi bath which is lovely but not practical for everyday use (especially when it took so long to fill up as the pressure was very low & boiler kept cutting out), the downstairs twin has a bath but just has a shower attachment. This meant we were all having to use the upstairs showe every day. It would have been better if they had fitted proper showers over the 2 baths. Overall a great 4nights away with our2 young children (aged 2yrs & 3 months), along with grandparents. We enjoyed days out to The Deep at Hull, Beverley, Bridlington, Hornsea. Found a lovely Italian called Berts by the lakeside on a nearby holiday park (Dacre park at Bransburton)"
