"The Mill House is a very quaint building in a good position for a walking holiday; it's good if you want to drive but who wants to do that when there is so much wonderful scenery on the doorstep? Some points that may help anyone booking, or thinking of booking, the Mill House:1. Stairs:The stairs, at the bottom, are very narrow so if you're unsteady on your feet it can be awkward using them.2. Bedrooms:BE WARNED.....the ceiling in the double room is pitched, and it's VERY pitched. The bed (quite comfortable) has a high foot-board which makes getting around it and the pitched ceiling a bit of a tight squeeze; saying that, I am a bit lad.Be careful when walking around in the bedrooms if you are of average height & above as you will smack your head! However we got around this and it added something funny to our holiday and it's fine when you get used to it.3. Bathroom:Good size and suited us perfectly; no problems whatsoever.4. Kitchen/Diner:Good facilities and everything you need to cook something to eat after a long day out.5. Lounge/Sitting Room:No TV....which was lovely! There is a radio which is all you need. There are a few games (we had a laugh playing Scrabble) which helps make some quality time with your group.6. Fire in Lounge:My little bugbear. We paid the £25 fuel allowance but we only had access to coal. There wasn't the small pieces of wood needed to start building the fire in the first place. As it was we only had one day where we needed a fire as it warmed up for the rest of the week.My suggestion is NOT to pay the £25 but get your own fuel (wood, coal, matches/lighters etc are available from the local shop) when you need it. We basically wasted £25.7. Porch:There is a drawer in the wooden chair in the porch....look in it and you'll find some binoculars which are handy.8. Parking:A parking space is situated behind the property. To access it just turn up the small drive between the Mill House and the house to the left of it.9. Décor:A good standard of décor although it was a bit odd, if not weird, to have someone else's family photos all over the house. When going on holiday you want to feel that you are on holiday and having strangers' faces all around your accommodation is strange.A good amount of tartan, of course, but I'd change the paintings in the lounge to be more local or Scottish as they look a little 'English' to me...and I'm English, so I know these things!Overall:Well worth the trip, a good accommodation with some quirks but nothing to make your stay a bad one.We won't go back only because we've 'done' that part of Scotland now and have other places to visit but if we were to return then we'd use it again."

"We sort of fell in love with the mill house. It´s interior is extremely welcoming and warm. The furnishing and the colors are all of a piece. I admire the taste of the owner (or whoever is responsible), as the eye meets real beauty. The old mill times are alive in this house, without TV, what we treasured very much. On the other hand we had access to the Internet (WiFi) for any important contact to our working life.Looking out of the windows you can see the coastal line. So even if it is raining ( what of course happens when you are in Scotland :-)), you always see the ocean, changing with the weather and impressing with the view of an endless horizon.Without driving there are wonderful walks possible, starting at the steps of the house. There are other neighbors around, but it is still secluded enough to make a healthy contrast to Berlin, where we usually live. It is still, quiet, nature pure. Our next door neighbor, who welcomed us at arrival, is a wonderful old lady, very helpful and kind. The only thing that could bother you is the 10km away located nuclear power plant. We knew about it before and made a deliberate decision to go there. Whoever looks for rest and peace is at the right place here."

"This is beautifully situated, with outstanding views, within walking distance of a lighthouse and dramatic clifftop views, and with as good a beach as you'll find anywhere just five minutes drive away. The property is immaculately maintained, thoughtfully provisioned and with an incredibly fast internet connection, despite the location. The owners are lovely people, friendly but not intrusive, allowing you complete privacy but on hand to help whenever needed. The cottage includes lots of the owner's photographs of local features (he's professionally trained), which was an unexpected bonus. We were in the middle of a three-week North Coast 500 trip and stayed here for a week to make the best of what the coastline has to offer. It's perfect for doing that and during our stay we took the opportunity to book a day trip to Orkney, taking in Skara Brae and other key sites -- highly recommended. If you want comfort, peace and quiet and the chance to explore some beautiful places, this is a perfect place to stay. We can't recommend it highly enough."

"Doles Cottage was clean and tidy, and very comfy. It suited us perfectly for the week, having the dogs with us. There were lots of nice thoughtful touches - dog towels, sewing kit, spare toothbrushes and cake and milk upon arrival. However as the week progressed, we found a few things that needed a little attention - a leak in the bathroom, remote controls that needed new batteries, the dvd player didn't work. The main problem for us was not having any wi-fi. This cottage is in a beautiful little village, that we fell in love with it. For a quiet week away, it's truly heaven. For a family with kids wanting wi-fi, it could be a nightmare! I would definitely recommend staying here. Its about 20 mins drive from Thurso, just make sure you can live without the wi-fi!!"

"Four winds cottage is the most comprehensively equipped cottage we have ever stayed in.The extra touches are fantastic as in a bottle of wine, tea, coffee, milk, biscuits all unexpected but very welcoming. Four winds has all the cooking and cleaning equipment you could possibly need and more it is very clean (spotless) and tidy and a pleasure to stay there.I have no hesitation in recommending for winds to anyone and would gladly stay there again. The dining area is wonderful with great views over the water if you could arrange for the odd whale or pod of dolphins to put in an appearance that would be the cherry on the cake but maybe next time!!!Kind regardsJohn & julie"
