"Oh dear oh dear where to start? First impressions - a house unloved, filthy windows both inside and particularly outside (spiders and all) and an unkempt hedge. Enter into what is a stunning space spoiled by the saggy, uncomfortable, grimy sofas.Any sign of a welcome? No, not even soap in the loo. Even a budget hotel manages a basic welcome. And so to bed - the single bed bases in the second en suite bedroom are so saggy and uncomfortable that our daughter had to move the mattress onto the floor in this "home away from home"We were expecting some activity as it is a working estate but when I tried to spend a day in the house while my husband and daughter went hillwalking the noise was horrendous and all day long. I may as well have been sitting in the barn which is higher than the cottage and stands about five or six metres away from the windows. The cottage itself is an old building and was once part of a courtyard which now has a monstrosity of a new barn filling the middle of it. Unfortunately all the downstairs windows except one face the barn with no views of the open countryside as portrayed. The outside space is a good place to sit and have a cup of tea or glass of wine but is no place for children to play. The proximity of large heavy machinery makes it totally unsuitable for children. There is a very loud clicking which appears to come from in the wall behind the double bed when the heating comes on.Apart from the windows and sofas being dirty, there were also hairs and fluff on the bed side table in the second bedroom, nuts under the coffee table, cobwebs on the ceiling, dust on the skirting boards and the top of the fridge freezer hasn't been cleaned in a long while.A sign on the wall asks you to keep the place clean but apart from a couple of cloths and some washing up liquid there is nothing else."

"Having stayed at Beaufort Estate previously (Daisy Cottage & The Larder), we knew the cottage would be of good comfort & standard and Kennels Cottage did not disappoint. The cottage was clean, warm, spacious and had everything you need for a self catering holiday. The views from the lounge & kitchen across the fields and in to the distance were lovely. However, from a personal point of view, we were disappointed with the shower which has been badly designed/laid out. Between the shower hose stretching across to the holder and shower curtain edging in to the shower, it left no room to shower freely without 1 of the 2 (or both) being in your way or stuck to you. Also, the shower hose had a hole in it somewhere and the water pressure was low due to this. We stayed there for Christmas and on a cold winters morning, it would have been nice to have a warm comfortable shower to set you up for the day but unfortunately, this was not the case.On another note, the main bedroom would really benefit from having a wardrobe.Having said this, it would not put us off staying at Beaufort Estate again as it is a beautiful place with a very good location to visit the surrounding areas and attractions."

"Beautiful cottage in a very beautiful area. Loads of places to visit whether you want to explore further north or stay nearer home. We didn't have the best of weather but still were out and about every day as even in February we could find places to go to and things to do on an inclement day.Cottage had all we needed for a very comfortable stay.Had an enjoyable meal at a very reasonable price in Brockies Lodge Hotel. Only complaint was the size of the portions especially the starter. Tasting platter for one would have been enough for two. Shudder to think what the size of the sharing one was. Our hosts at Ornum, Ellis & Fiona were very welcoming. The beautiful home baked cake was a very welcome sight after our long journey. It tasted every bit as good as it looked.Would happily recommend a stay in Ornum Cottage for a lovely relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.Definitely on my list of places I would go back to."

"The cottage was a little run down and deff needed a little tlc. The view was amazing and although it was away from all amenities this was what we wanted. My main issue was the wasp nests within the house. I had very young children who were stung on more than 1 occasion. This meant they spent the week terrified and i was thankfull neither were allergic. I spoke to the caretakers who did come to deal with the issue but only spraying wasp spray around the entrance of the nests this went on for 3 days and they never actually dealt with the overall issue. I went mid July so I dont believe that was the first they knew about the wasps and this should have been dealt with prior to any1 getting there and dealt with professionally. I got the impression they weren't interested."

"Lovely comfy beds, very good shower . The fridge freezer is really too small for 4 adults needs. The cottage is quite well equipped pot towels , enough wash powder for one wash and dish cloth etc.The garden is amazing for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful scenery ( beware the wasps)The bathroom tap is very hard to turn off fully and the toilet seat moves but otherwise a great place to stay . In fact will be returning next year🙂The cottage is hellishly difficult to find ,the only help I can offer is there is a traffic cone opposite the entrance to Stables and dairy cottage, the entrance to checkers is approx 100 yards on if the cone is on your right ."
