"To say that we were dismayed when we arrived is an understatement; we could not believe that anyone could give this cottage 4 stars and a 'gold award'. Beware - the photos are incredibly misleading. The cottage is damp, dusty and smelly throughout. Blinds are ill-fitting, covered in mildew and dead insects and some of the bedding was torn with holes in. The 'master bedroom' appears to be some kind of disused office, with dusty, 3 D maps in glass cases and empty filing cabinets. The bed head board was covered in dirt and not even attached to the bed, so that it rattled. When pulled out, the filth behind it was revolting. There was no 'welcome pack', as advertised. Having driven for 6 hours we could not even make a cup of tea and had to set out again down the track which is difficult to access(beware if you don't have a four wheel drive). We were only left two dishwasher tablets, half a toilet roll and no bin liners. The attic 'bedroom' is simply a very a stuffy attic with two sponge mattresses on the floor, not in any way like the photos suggest, and had a very unpleasant smell. Several things were broken, including a large cupboard door missing in the kitchen. There is no shower (4 star???) and the shower head over the bath was broken. The towels smelt nastily of damp when they were used. A washing machine was meant to be available was this was not the case. Packets of condiments left out in the kitchen were empty and out of date. The log burner had not been cleaned for some time so was not useable. To add insult to injury, the owner had left a large piggy bank, inviting tips!!"

"This was a surprise long weekend away for my dad's birthday and we all had such a lovely time. Rocksfarm is set in beautiful surrounding countryside. It is at the end of a narrow lane, but this is what makes it so tranquil. You feel like you are miles away from anywhere and it is so peaceful. Unfortunately we didn't get to do any walks from the cottage but it looks like there are footpaths that you can follow. Daytrips to Battle and Bodiam are easily made. There is so much to do in the area that we wish we'd have been there for longer. Lila the host couldn't have been more helpful and made us feel very welcome. She was on hand if you needed her but equally left you alone to enjoy your holiday. She left us some milk on arrival and a lovely pot of homemade honey which was delicious. There are loads of pots of herbs in the garden which Lila insisted we make use of. The mint was great for cocktails! Lila was very kind and let us make use of her swimming pool which, combined with the weather, made us feel like we were in a little part of France. We didn't get round to trying any of the local pubs as it was nice just to relax in the garden for a BBQ in the evenings. Maybe next time! Thanks again Lila."

"We had such a wonderful break at Hopper's Cottage last weekend and can't wait to escape to the country again very soon! The hosts are fab and apart from a hello at the beginning of the stay and a goodbye at the end, they leave you to enjoy but are at the end of the phone if you need anything. This is a truly unique spot if you want peace and quiet, no neighbours and only the sheep and the birds for company! Stunning views across Bewl Water too. The cottage has been recreated on the original footprint of the old holiday stay for hoppers visiting Sussex in the hop picking season. The cottage is beautifully equipped with everything you would need including a freezer, luxurious bath and fab shower! So if you want to escape the world, I recommend stocking up on everything you need, unpack and take in the tranquility. If you do need to stock up, Wadhurst village is a 2 mile car ride away and has everything you need with a couple of nice pubs thrown in!The garden is large enough for the dog to have a wonder about and is completely enclosed so he is perfectly safe. Great local walks and Bedgebury Pinetum is only about 7 miles away."

"A nice property in a quiet location overlooking fields and woodland. We took our large dog and there was plenty of room for him. The garden is fenced at the back adjoining a field that had sheep in it which might be a problem for some pets. A bridleway runs from the farm through fields, one of which was empty so we could let the dog off to run. We did a couple of local walks but did encounter a field of bullocks on the path which was pretty testing (and potentially hazardous), and on another day a few horses (less of a problem although they followed us all the way to the gate). Although the location is good, it is a fair way to anywhere (about 30 minutes to Eastbourne or Hastings). There are pubs within a couple of miles each way and it's just a few miles to Herstmonceux Castle (£6 to enter grounds - enough to stop us going in). It's definitely not Hailsham! For the tech addicts, there is no wi-fi. So if you just want a quiet spot to relax this is definitely the place for you."

"A lovely, dog friendly cottage, set in the Sussex countryside. It is on the A21 but wasn't aware of any traffic news. Easy to find and a warm welcome from the owners. Having 2 dogs of the same breed as the owners is always a good start. Dogs need to be on a lead in the farm area but there are fields immediately behind the cottage where they can run free. There is a walled off courtyard outside the cottages where again the dogs can roam so you don't have to worry if the dog slips out of the cottage door. Cottage is delightful and very well equipped, headroom in the bedroom is limited but managed to avoid smacking my head (I am 6') throughout the stay. comfy chairs and a very comfy bed. Queens Arms PH is walking distance, dog friendly and does good food too (Best to book a table) Good central location for visiting towns and villages."
