"The setting is one of my favourite areas of Scotland. The premises are set right against a bonnie harbour, and the sea pays a regular visit to the walls at each high tide. The interior has retained its original character, but all the essential facilities are available. If you want 5 star "have a nice day" facilities, try Sir Richard Branson's Island. This is Scotland. The 28 steps between the 3rd floor and the kitchen does require some careful strategic planning to avoid the need to be inconvenienced. For an elderly person, depending on their level of motility, thought does have to be given to the stepped separation between the three floors. The challenges are not insoluble. The locals are really helpful, and there are plenty great eateries around the area--particularly if you want good Scottish food cooked well, and served with traditional Scottish courtesy and sincerity. St Andrews and other very interesting and attractive sites are within easy striking distance."

"We stayed at this amazing cottage during the October holiday week...my wife, 2 kids, baby and myself and we found it very spacious. There was a comfy sofa bed in the lounge, along with a long, L-shape leather sofa too.The kitchen-diner was also very large with a breakfast bar/island unit and all new swanky Siemens appliances! It has 2 bedrooms - a reasonable master bedroom with the arched ceilings and a couple of store cupboards - only 1 useable however and drawers. The kids room was massive though with 3 nice single beds with built in cupboard storage. There was a shower ensuite room downstairs and a very nice large main bathroom upstairs with a huge tub and separate shower unit also. The cottage has clearly been modernised not a long time ago and it has been done to a high spec - this does not detract from the fact that it is a cottage you're staying in though and makes it very cosy especially with the underfloor heating."

"Overall, we were pleased with the accommodation, except for the following 2 items.1. Television. We could not get the television to work and had to wait until the agent came and showed us how it worked. Also, The size of the television was so small that it was difficult to watch anything. In fact the owner telephoned us and suggested that we buy a new one and he would reimburse us. We did not take him up on this suggestion. 2. The double top bedroom's central heating would not work, as a result of which the room was uncomfortably cold. Again, the owner told us that he had arranged for the local gas board to come and fix the problem on Tuesday, 23rd June. Needless to say, no-one came to fix it, so we were forced to buy an electrical heater in order to warm the bedroom up.Although relatively small matters we got the impression that no-one really cared about them and weren't prepared to fix them."

"The beds in property are old and worn. Not fit for purpose - would be more comfortable lying on the floor. Floorboards are broken and a tripping hazard. Carpet does not extend to full room in master bedroom. Boiler was faulty on arrival. Engineer arrived late on the Friday to fix - however the hot water was faulty again by the next morning. Boiler is also very loud and situated in cupboard of bedroom 2. Property was up for sale to detriment of external look and feel of property. Advertised car park does not exist - car park is for private use of inhabitants of other properties. Television signal was faulty. Sofas in lounge were old and dirty. Carpets/rugs were old and dirty. We survived one night in the property (and only because it was late and had no other alternative). Avoid at all costs! Anstruther was lovely, so would recommend a trip there - just don't stay at Holly's Hideaway."

"Basically a three bed on a housing estate - not really a 'holiday cottage'.We got a deal so price ok - not sure if I'd pay to stay on a housing estate for a holiday.View from (dirty) front window is a horrible grey block of flats. On arrival: no welcome pack (a pint of milk is a basic in my opinion); overpowering smell from plugin air freshener in the kitchen was so bad you could taste it - realised two days later this was probably to mask a horrible smell coming from the kitchen sink drains.Owner arrived on the evening of second day and invited herself in to 'welcome us' and tell us when to put the bins out - strange by anyones standards and whilst we had no objections to putting bin out we didn't need to be told there's information attached to the fridge door."
