"We stayed as a family group of 8 adults and 3 children, from the start we could feel the family atmosphere as we entered this superb house. As we admired the space, decor and views we came across the welcome pack in the kitchen/diner which was a very pleasant and much appreciated surprise which set the tone for a very pleasant family weekend. We had a great family meal in the large dining room where we all could be together whilst preparing in the open kitchen, the children exploring the superb well equipped bedrooms or in the games/ cinema room... Brilliant for them too! The house was so nice you could be excused for locking the door and just enjoying the whole experience inside but we didn't and walked to the nearby beach past the golf course, farmers fields with farm animals and berry picking on the way. We all will remember our stay here not just for the anniversary but the ambience of the whole package... Credit to the owners!"

"Set in a stunning location overlooking Dunstanburgh Castle, you open you curtains to one of the finest views in Northumberland. Nevermind the weather at this time of year as you are warmed by the cosy underfloor heating and log-burners. The property has been finished throughout to a very high standard. There is enough space for large groups to spread out and find their own spaces whether it is in the well appointed kitchen with large dining table just right for entertaining, or one of the two sitting rooms. The Lookout is tastefully furnished and decorated with calming colours. Traveling with family, we enjoyed walks down to beach and nearby Craster, via Dunstanburgh Castle. The Greys Inn, just round the corner offers a friendly welcome and serves food together with a good range of guest ales. A great base for exploring this area of Northumberland such as Holy Island, Alnwick and Bamburgh. A return visit is assured."

"The house was very good for groups, as it is arranged over 4 floors, so there is ample space for everyone. The kitchen was clean and well equipped and both lounges were very comfortable. The carpets are a bit worse for wear and the games room smells damp, but these were minor issues. There is only one bath/shower and it is on the top floor...a consideration if you are thinking of going with elderly folk or young children. The bunk bedroom has no windows and is isolated on the ground floor, away from the other bedrooms. This wasn't a problem for us as we had young adults in the room, but I would be reluctant to put small children there. Finally, the house is well situated for walking to Barter Books, Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the town. It is a convenient base for many other places too. But...if you don't like being next to church whose bells chime every 15 minutes, then choose a different property!"

"We had a brilliant week at Thorn Rigg. The house is very well equipped and every need for your holiday has been thought through by the owners. The house is stylishly furnished, with a homely but uncluttered feel with lots of little touches that make it extra special. The house has a good layout and a beautiful landscaped garden, which is totally dog proof, even for our large dog. The decking is in the perfect position for you to take in the excellent view of the garden and nearby fields and countryside. The welcome pack is extensive and even includes a good bottle of wine and a selection of cheeses and some bread and butter. Even our dog was catered for with dog bowls being provided, some dog biscuits and even a few pooh bags. Every detail has been really considered to make your stay special. We would highly recommend Thorn Rigg and are already booking our stay there for next year."

"Just returned from a Bank Holiday weekend visit to Embelton/Northumberland. We stayed in the house called the LOOK OUT in Embelton...what an amazing house it was. It accomodated 12 of us very comfortably and the facilities in house were good. As the weather was so excellent it was great to sit out front and look down to the sea...fantastic view in all directions. The only thing we missed was having a few patio chairs or a bench outside on the terrace to sit, there is a great garden area just to the side of the house with picnic tables which we used but when cooking in the house it would have been good just to walk out the front door, sit on the terrace and be near to the front door to pop in and keep an eye on the food cooking. Plenty of pubs in the village and a shop that sells most things needed. All in all a great place to be,"
