"The photographer who took the photo of the house made in look as if it stood alone when in fact it was situated right next to a working farm and Edderside was in fact a small conclave of houses. The house furniture was well used and the house had a fair amount of cobwebs, door handles in need of replacement or repair, showers not properly cleaned. There was a code for wi-fi but we could not get connected. Our group consisted of 16 and the dishwasher broken and looked as if it had been like this a while, however the kitchen was as described and shown in the photos. The first floor bedroom was cold and the radiator did not keep it warm, other bedrooms were the same. If your guests have any mobility issues do not go to this house, there is only one small toilet downstairs off the conservatory. There is an open fire but no wood supplied (advised of this) I spent over £40 on logs for 2days. This was my second experience of going to a country house the first house Craig Bittern in Dalbeattie (also on the Solway coast) was far superior Edderside Hall and cost half the price."

"Having driven 130 miles through storm "Callam" it was a really nice touch that the owner had left the heating and lights on, with background classical music- it was very welcoming. The lodge is well kitted out for any eventuality with 2 teles, games to play, DVD's to play and books to read. There's no Wifi, but you don't notice with everything else to do. It's very dog friendly with a small enclosed yard outside the door, and a large garden behind it if you can let your dog off. Dog owner beware however, there's plenty of rabbits in the large garden! We found the location brilliant. I've been to the Lakes several times and wanted to explore the Solway Firth, for which this lodge is really handy.Overall once the storm had cleared we had a wonderful, relaxing time in peace and quiet"

"A lovely, cosy cottage in a beautiful location. A great base to explore the Lakes from, and a nice place to return to after a day out. The house was clean and well equipped, and the log burner kept us warm on chilly nights! Caldbeck is a lovely village with plenty of amenities, and is a nice place to have a wander around, including the pretty church and grounds. The cottage itself was bigger than we imagined, and the garden is fully enclosed and safe for dogs. Our Labrador certainly enjoyed herself! The only thing we found that needs addressing by the owners is to get a new mattress and pillows for the main bedroom...rather past it's best! Other than that, we had a great time here, and would recommend it to others as a great place to stay in for a Lakeland break."

"Overall this is a reserved recommend,we stayed for 3 nights so was ok, anything longer and I would think this cottage would become annoying. It was large enough (2 adults & 2 kids (12 & 14)) & generally tidy & clean. It is trying to be quaint but does not really get there, there is also a feeling of "cheep" e.g the kitchen laminate floor & the downstairs toilet without a wash basin (because it was too small to fit one in). The thumb latches on the internal doors were awkward as they were not fitted properly. The upstairs bathroom door latch & lock (a cabin hook) was the worst for fitting. The internet (WiFi) was flakey, dropping in & out at random, don't believe the PlusNet adverts!!!"

"We stayed here for 1 week during Christmas 2018. On first walking into the cottage it really was a big "wow" from both of us as we entered the modern spacious kitchen and the lovely bedrooms with en-suite facilities. Being recently refurbished everything is brand new. But it's not just the furniture and décor that impress but also all the little touches here and there that really make you feel at home. The location is perfect for walking and cycling with just a short walk to the lake and you're straight out onto the local fells. Local eateries include the Chalet for coffees and snacks and the local pub the Farmers Arms for traditional bar meals. We would definitely return."
