"Lovely cottage let down by the kitchen. The bedrooms, living room and dining room were all lovely with some nice quirky features. However, it seemed as if the owners hadn't got round to updating the kitchen yet. We stayed over Christmas and although the weather was quite mild the kitchen was freezing - even with both ovens going. There is a radiator but it's round a corner by the back door and had no effect on the kitchen at all. For a property marketed to sleep 8-10 people the stock of kitchenware and utensils was inadequate: not enough wine glasses for 6 people; no highballs etc, just a few mismatched tumblers. No oven gloves!(had to buy our own) Only 2 tea towels provided for a 4 night stay (had to buy extra). Plenty of knives, forks and spoons but not a lot else. Tin opener useless (had to buy our own). The cleanliness of the kitchen was also not great (the rest of the property was fine) - cutlery, plates and pans had obviously just been taken out of the dishwasher and put away without being checked and most were dirty. Such a shame that a lovely property was let down by poor basic standards and hopefully it was just down to the owners being new to holiday letting. One final thing - it needs to be highlighted in the cottage description that there is a steep set of stairs between the kitchen and the dining room (just so people are prepared to have to carry their Christmas dinner from one floor to the next). We would happily stay again (despite the kitchen gripes) as the location is great - nice local pubs, walks and a well stocked co-op round the corner."

"We enjoyed our stay at Gabby Cottage. It had everything we could've needed. The beds were comfortable. There were plenty of clean towels. The Cottage was clean and cosy. The enclosed back garden was good for the children to play safely. The parking would be an issue if there were more than one car. With this in mind, two of the adults travelled to Embleton by bus, then got picked up there to travel to Christon Bank. This wasn't an issue for us but might put others off booking the Cottage. The road through is extremely busy through the day, with drivers ignoring the 30 mile limit. Therefore children need to be watched closely getting to and from the car. There is not much to do in Christon Bank its self but it is a good base for easy reach of the coast and beautiful beaches of Low Newton and Embleton. The information left in the Cottage about places to visit etc was useful. There was mention of a welcome pack and also of a visitors book to sign. Neither of which we were able to locate in the Cottage. This caused us to wonder how up to date the information file was, but again, not an issue for us. We would definitely consider booking Gabby Cottage again for our holiday."

"Belford is a lovely friendly village. The Black Swan Hotel was especially welcoming. We had all the amenities of the village but were close enough to the beach and countryside too. The house was spacious and quirky and the beds we're comfortable. The layout was difficult with a flight of stairs between the kitchen and dining room and some twin rooms rather than double beds would be better for families. Our teenage girls did not appreciate sharing a bed and the sofa bed was very uncomfortable. The back yard was not well cared for and there was no pleasant outdoor space. The worst aspect of the cottage was the noise of the plumbing. From the downstairs bedroom there was constant loud noise of flushing toilets and gushing water, including through the night. The first time we went to use the oven we found leftover pizza on the grill pan . The oven was not clean overall and complicated to use. We would love to return to Belford but unfortunately not in this cottage."

"Fantastic location. The Black Swan pub across the road does lovely food and welcomes dogs. Handy local supermarket too. Easy access to local beaches and countryside, and convenient for the A1 if you want to explore further afield. Despite being trapped in Belford for 2 extra days due to heavy snow, we found plenty to do on the doorstep. Cottage was very cosy and warm. Our only criticism would be that the kitchen was very cold indeed, and the stairs down to it were very steep which was was not made clear when we booked, and was not great for the older family members or our elderly greyhound. Otherwise, a very comfortable stay indeed and perfect house for a larger family get together."

"Nice little cottage with surprisingly large living room and very well-equipped kitchen. Within easy distance of the coast and its many castles/beaches and Alwnich and areas beyond. Owner very thoughtful and helpful - e.g welcome pack on arrival which we didn't expect. We went during October half term and the cottage was warm and cosy. The village of Embleton itself is nothing special but Warkworth, Amble and other towns on the coast are lovely - and the countryside over towards Rothbury (and further south if you venture down to Hadrian's Wall) is stunning. Plenty of eating and shopping in nearby Alnwick, where you can access the A1. We enjoyed our time very much."
