"1. The cottage was clean, neat, spacious, beautifully appointed.2. The grounds were also spacious with plenty of space for car parking and "sitting out".3. The location was rural and quiet - could be a drawback for some visitors since the access road was narrow and steep and the cottage is; in fact; adjacent to and forms part of a working farm. 4. The quaint, near-by village of Marhamchurch does not have a shop, but the town of Bude, only 5 minutes by car, has many interesting shops as well as amenities such as large supermarkets, petrol station, eating places, including take-aways.5. Bude is a haven of adventure, so historic, so interesting as well as a lovely traditional seaside with a beautiful sandy beach. We loved its character.6. You will not be short of things to do on your stay, whatever your interest, whatever your age. We travelled somewhere different each day and had a wonderful time and never went more than 20 miles away from the cottage - beautiful views, historic locations, wildlife attractions, gardens, sport - so much choice. There is a good selection of leaflets in the cottage for you to browse through, plus there is a tourist information centre in a large car park with easy access as you drive into Bude.7. As a base for exploring this area, this cottage comes with an enthusiastic recommendation from us.8. A bonus is the country park, children's play area and very charming bistro at the end of the road which turns off to Marhamchurch. We ate here several times and found the food, service and setting very pleasing indeed.9. However, the final word is one of caution - if you are not fond of cats, be ready to shoo away Smokey and Poppy who think they have every right to share the property with you. We are cat people so we loved having them around, but for anyone who doesn't like cats, it might be a tussle keeping them away - they think they own the place.10. All in all, we loved our holiday and will be very happy to return for more!!"

"Amazing home from home accommodation - containing absolutely everything that you need, beautifully clean and well decorated. Welcome pack of bread, milk, eggs and home made cake plus a home made cream tea in between our first and second week, was very much appreciated. Welcome pack for the dog included everything from dog bed and blankets, towels, feeding bowls and treats. Quiet location, with shops in Kilkhampton only a short car journey away or slightly further out in Bude. Gorgeous food at the local pub, The Bush Inn, only 5 minute drive away or a 30 minute walk via the country lanes to Morwenstow, where you’ll also find The Rectory Tea Rooms - cream teas don’t come better anywhere else! Lots of places to visit within a fairly short distance, both in North Cornwall and North Devon - Bude, Morwenstow, Kilkhampton, beaches at Duckpool, Blackrock, Sandymouth and Widemouth, (where dogs can be walked), Tintagel, Boscastle, Port Isaac, Clovelly, Crackington Haven, Hartland Abbey and Hartland Quay, Docton Mill Gardens, and slightly further afield to Heddon Mouth and an amazing find at Castle Hill Gardens, to name but a few places. Lovely views from the front windows of Avalon, and hours lost watching the birds feeding outside the kitchen window. We’ve been holidaying in Cornwall (on and off), since 2001 and this has been, by far, the best we’ve ever stayed in."

"Everything about this cottage is wonderful. You have a feeling of complete relaxation as soon as you step through the door. The grounds are lovely. We are a party of 6 and have visited this house numerous times now. You are welcomed with scones cream and jam, which is a very thoughtful gesture. The kitchen has everything you need and all the appliances work efficiently. The downstairs has a great hall where you can dump your belongings after a great day on the beach. The property is kept lovely and clean with three large bedrooms. The outdoor space is so ideal for playing games. Children can play in safety on the large grass area. There were numerous games left for the guests to play including a badminton set. Christine the owner is very helpful. She ensures that your have everything you need during your stay and is willing to help immediately with any questions you may have. There are two cats that visit the property which add to the delights of the week. All in all this is a very nice property and we love it and will hopefully be able to visit it again.Thank you"

"Lovely location, great views, property could of been great, but was let down by not being cleaned after the previous guests, had no use of hot tub till late 2nd day. Main dining area is great but on Sunday if you dont reserve lunch, you will be turned away.Cottage was covered in dust that has taken years to accumulate, blood and urine on sheets and throws,Kitchen was covered in grease cobwebs, a broken glass in cuboards with dirty cutlery, made for a very uncomfortable stay.It was clean as you go, as the family were tired of this we left a day early. No tennis courts, been out for weeks, we gave up with our complaint we were in a queue and the lady at reception lied to the guests in front of us, about similar issues, so we turned awaywas more like the movie carry on campingAfter a 10 hour drive you want to be able to relax, not be told dont touch or use anything since the cottage had not been cleaned.Once the cleaning team arrived 2 days into our stay, they did bare minimum as they did not seem interested in keeping the owners properties clean and good presentation."

"From the moment we arrived at the Avalon, we felt like it was a cosy and comfortable home from home. The cottage has plenty of private parking, lots of living space and a wonderful conservatory and garden. Lou is a friendly and welcoming host and has ensured that the cottage is equipped with everything you could possibly need and more. It was a pleasure being able to stay there and enjoy watching the bird's on the feeders. Our dog loved being in the back garden and I enjoyed reading in the conservatory. The location is in a quiet spot, so you do need a car, but there are shops and takeaways in Kilkhampton (10 minutes away) or Bude (25 minutes away). Dog friendly pubs near by are the Bush and the London inn. AsAvalon is near to the Devon border, you will find the cottage a good base for Devon and Cornwall."
