"We had a lovely new year at Wild Goose Cottage. 3 out of the 4 bedrooms are plenty large enough for travel cots and the beds were comfortable. The best area is the kitchen diner, very modern and plenty of room for 8 adults and 3 babies at the table. there's plenty of crockery, pots and pans and utensils. A very well stocked kitchen however only one oven shelf made it very difficult to cook for everyone so the owners could perhaps invest in another shelf to make this a lot easier for large groups to cook meals to enjoy at the cottage. It was great to have the utility area and downstairs toilet plus extra shower. The area was lovely. Very quiet, few nice pubs, cafes and shops. The living room was cosy and nice garden and balconies for use in better weather. The sofas are probably past their shelf life but other than that a nice space. There's a small unloading area outside the cottage but then you have to park your car in the town free car park. Not a major issue unless everyone arrives at once but something to mention as it's not on the spec. All in all we had a lovely time thank you."

"A fantastic break in this cute little cottage. We would definitely return again in the future. Lovely and thoughtful welcome pack, with chocolates from a local company. Everything you need to know is in the manual. The cottage was lovely, cosy and clean. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need to make meals, unfortunately some of the kitchen equipment was dirty and needed to be washed before use. It was lovely using the log burning fire at night after being out during the day. There was a clothes horse to dry clothes on but it would be good to have a coat stand or a couple of hooks to hang coats. The cottage is right on the main road and it appears a lot of the cars do not respect the speed limit which is a shame. Some road noise but this did not disturb our sleep. The owners are very helpful and accommodating. We rang before we arrived and had the keys to get in after 5 minutes of arrival. Would definitely recommend this cottage."

"I loved my stay at Widows Cottage, though I would like to rename it something happier. The cottage is nicely situated, mostly south facing and tucked into a ravine against the wind, with many close-by walks of the Alston Moors. It is a place of exceptional beauty and peace. Very quiet, except for the pastoral symphony of nature. I loved waking up to the morning bird songs and taking my tea in the garden facing the spectacular view of Alston town in the valley just below. Our hosts were knowledgeable of the area and interesting to know. I highly recommend this place, particularly if you are dog people and enjoy pastoral walks and the history of old places. Alston has a place in Cumbrian history as a profitable mining town, but is also notable for its creativeness and strong sense of identity. In many respects, I consider it a model town, and its overall beauty is exceptional."

"We had a pleasant stay at Widows cottage. The owners were lovely, very friendly and helpful. The cottage itself was lovely, very snug and set in a lovely location. The bedrooms were set up very well and there was plenty of blankets and extra bedding available. The lounge was gorgeous with big comfy sofas and a beautiful log burning fire. We enjoyed this room the most! The village Alston is just a quick drive away with a Co-op shop, fish and chip shop, Spar and a few individual shops and a couple of pubs.If I was to say how the cottage could be improved, I’d recommend an upgrade to the tv and DVD player, we had to go out and buy a DVD player as the one included was broke. The owner did try to rectify the problem and was as helpful as he could be at short notice. The enclosed garden was perfect for our little dog and I’d recommend this cottage to others with pets."

"Excellent cottage very peaceful pictueresque area , lovely Christmassy feel with snow and ice everywhere and the local town lilt up with Christmas lights , we eat at the angel pub 400 years old with great food, friendly atmosphere and roaring coal fire , cottage clean , owners are amazingly polite friendly people , and even helped us when our car got stuck in ice and snow , we have stayed in dozens of uk cottages and would strongly recomend this one , there are so many scenic panoramic driving routes , and wildlife to spot we enjoyed seeing a red squirrel close to the cottage perched on a stone wall in the snow . As well as birds of prey . The cottage was well equipped warm and cosy with a very warm log/coal fire . Highly recomended by mr and mrs lester and family thank you"
