"I stayed at Kestrel Cottage with my 96 year old mother in law. I had chosen the property for its wetroom, bedrooms all on one level and it's proximity to Durham. The cottage far exceeded all my expectations. It is much bigger than the photographs suggest, bathrooms, hallways and living area are very spacious. Everything is very new, tasteful and not worn out or shabby. The beds are really comfortable and the linen is good quality. The main living room is south facing so it's light, and bright. The views from the two full length windows are stunning, open fields and countryside. We were visited every morning by two friendly goats at the fence by the patio. Most afternoons we watched parachuters descending to an area about a half a mile away. All most entertaining. We could park at the door which was very helpful as my mother in law couldn't walk too far. In the wetroom there are handles to aid the not so steady. The owner kindly brought us a proper shower seat too, which was so useful.Even though very early in the year we found a lot to do in the area. Durham is nearby, we went several times. I highly recommend the Oriental Museum, we visited the botanical garden, cathedral and castle. The Hartlepool maritime museum was excellent. We went to Gateshead quay. Just a couple of miles away we went to the big outlet shopping centre and the coastal towns and coast road are on the doorstep. All this to do, and then at the end of a busy day out the cottage was a relaxing, warm and welcoming home to come back to.Jean the owner was friendly and helpful, she lives nearby but wasn't intrusive at all. The welcome pack was extremely generous, including eggs, bread, milk. Kestrel Cottage was an excellent choice for our holiday and we were delighted with everything we found there."

"After reading the would be hotel inspector's review [Vic from Settle], we entered S88927 expecting to see some kind of '80s throw back hovel. What I found was a characterful flat with stunning views. The brown stain in the kitchen sink just needed a bit of bleach, not replacing, and pretty much everything in the kitchen looked brand new. The furniture in the living room is as it appears in the picture, and while I did struggle to get up from the sofa, it was comfy to sit on. The flat was spotlessly clean, and in my opinion, the personal bits that were there added to the homeliness, not detracted from it. The bed was the hardest I'd ever slept on, but I see from the owners comment that they are getting a mattress topper to address that. and the duvet was a brand new feather one, so obviously that had been addressed also. People have complained about the secondary double glazing being a faff, but to be honest, you only have to unbolt it once, [I don't think anyone would be abseiling on to the balcony, so you'd be quite safe not bolting it every time you close it,] and we found it very easy to do. The only thing I would recommend which no one has mentioned, is to park up and go to the flat first and collect the back door key. We didn't, and ended up lugging stuff up the stone steps, when we could have used the back door which would have been so much easier!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, even though the weather was dreadful and we couldn't enjoy the view much."

"We booked this delightful property for a family celebration - my mum’s 70th birthday. We chose it mainly because it was just a three-hour drive for everyone (we are fairly far-flung, residing in North Wales, Nottingham and Edinburgh) - and we were thrilled to discover how lovely it was. The location is superb: Bishop Middleham is a quiet village, but it does have two pubs - and there is a well-signposted circular walk (about 3 ½ miles) that really shows off the area. It’s a bit muddy, but worth the muck! Durham is a short drive away, and we enjoyed exploring its picturesque centre. The property itself is near-perfect. There were eight of us - and the two teenagers certainly appreciated having their own single bedrooms up in the eaves. Two of the double bedrooms are very spacious; the third is much smaller but still adequate, and all are beautifully decorated. The shower is great - I really appreciate a hot, powerful shower. None of us made use of the enormous bathtub, but it lends the place a real sense of luxury. The communal areas are all ideal - the living rooms large and comfortable, and the kitchen accessible and well-stocked. The garden is a particular delight; we enjoyed sitting outside for coffee, even when it was raining. We also appreciated the cakes that were waiting for us on arrival. Yum.Would we recommend S88932 to others? Yes, without hesitation. In fact, we’ve already booked a return visit."

"S78161 is a lovely property which has a beautiful large garden which is perfect for little ones and adults alike! quiet and peaceful surroundings, a well stocked kitchen and utility area, games supplied, Netflix was a hit with my girls, very spacious and comfy rooms. we had a wonderful stay with everything close by and even managed to go to the beach everyday due to the fantastic weather. The family was very comfortable and impressed with the location and comfort of the property and the owner was very helpful with a query we had. there was a good folder with nearby takeaways and leaflets for local attractions and places of interest. The only thing we were a little confused with was the bin system, what we could and could not put in the bins, waste food, recycling etc. as every council is different a little guide may be an idea for those that are conscious of recycling! this is only a minor feedback suggestionBeautiful cottage and would like to return for another holiday in the future."

"This is a stunning holiday home. Lots of attention to detail to make you feel very welcome. Incredibly clean throughout. The massive bath is awesome (take lots of bubble bath!) and the kitchen is vey well equipped. The downstairs shower is also really good. There is a really great play park 3 minutes walk round the corner. The outside area is perfect for dogs and there is an great outhouse for doing laundry. The two pubs have friendly locals. A large supermarket is 5 mins drive away in the lovely village of Sedgefield. Durham is about a 20 minutes drive away and well worth visiting. The Cross keys pub up the road offers a great menu and a pool table. Plenty of room for parking in the village if you have more than one car. To be honest there is nothing negative to say about this home. We have stayed in many cottages over the years and this is definitely the best."
