"Wisteria Cottage provides lovely views and is at the end of a lane so is in a reasonably quiet location. It is at the top of a hill so you need to be fit enough to walk up unless you have a car. Situated well in order to get to main places of interest. 2 pubs in Bonsall both of which do excellent food and the people were very friendly and welcoming. A local shop pretty well stocked on essentials and the tea rooms do a great breakfast. As for the cottage itself, overall it was clean but the kitchen could do with some things being replaced. 2 mugs had chips in, the frying pan has seen better days and some of the cupboard shelves looked dirty. There were out of date packets etc which had been left by previous occupants. The wash cloths didn't look very clean either. As the week progressed there was a strong smell of rotten cabbage/drains in the kitchen and the downstairs shower room smelt a bit damp. Despite the owner saying that she'd see us on our day of arrival we didn't see her all week. There was no information pack about the cottage or local area e.g. bus times, local places of interest, the village itself, recycling etc.Overall the cottage was fine as a base for a week but the above points let it down and mean that we wouldn't choose to stay there again."

"This property is very small, the size of a double garage/ studio. There is very little room to put things e.g. No wardrobe to hang clothes, no cupboard space in kitchen to store foodstuff that you bring with you on holiday. The seating throughout is uncomfortable , even outside the chairs are metal and hard to sit on. The property is clean though and the scenery around is lovely, there are good dog walks from the property. The owner is very helpful, there is an induction hob in the property which is not the easiest to operate, and one of the frying pans was not suitable for induction this was replaced very quickly when this was mentioned. Access to the place is down a long unmetalled track which is full of pot holes . Overall felt the price for this very small accommodation was way too high ,and did not represent good value at all."

"Nice clean cosy cottage in a good location, very easy to reach National Trust, Mills and the Tram Museum as well as Matlock Bath and Matlock, nice walk uphill to the heights above Middleton with beautiful views with an information centre and cafe. Owners who lived next door were very friendly and helpful as were the other neighbours. Had a bit of a ride though to get provisions. Although back garden was as described it was difficult to access and we did not bother after the first day. The dog had to be taken a walk in local area but open area and small park very close to front of property. Big plus point was the Pub next door, parking is difficult for the cottage but okay for a small car. We were fortunate that the property adjacent was not in use and we were able to use their bay."

"Great cottage, very private and self contained. Part of wing on the main house but has separate entrance and its own walled garden plus access to a couple of small fields on the property - great for the dog. Clean, comfortable and well equipped with excellent wi-fi. Perfect for 2 adults and also has bunk beds. Entrance/kitchen area is downstairs then upstairs to a small lounge, large bedroom and toilet/shower room. Located in a quiet, secluded area 10 minutes drive from Ashbourne and Carsington Water with plenty of pubs in same distance, all serving good food and dog friendly in the bar areas.Owner was friendly and helpful. Would happily stay here again."

"We have stayed in 5* cottages before and this did not measure up. The kitchen was the main disappointment not because of the amenities it contained but the lack of space. By the time the fridge, cooker and sink had been fitted there was very little room for work surface which created problems for laying out plates. More of kitchenette than a kitchen. My husband was also disappointed that there was no off road parking for the car which he would have expected for a 5* cottage. We have since booked with another company with whom we have stayed before in a 5* cottage which is definitely 5* and the price is roughly the same. Big disappointment."
