"The building shown in picture is only half that for each rental. Too many problems. dishwasher broken, grubby kettle had to be replaced as needing switch held down to boil it. Oven not clean. Welcome tray looked a bit past its sell by date, rather dusty on everything and definitely not welcoming. Big concern about escape route blocked from bedroom if kitchen and living were on fire. Builders yard had all these railings blocking an exit to try and clamber over or get past. No good in daylight but if elderly and in the night add on panic, does not bear thinking about. Plastic film was put over outside of window after mentioned, by pub people so we could not see outside and be offended by it all!! Accommodation is in pub car park, did we misread that as we thought it was near bybut not that near and the shared garden was on the over side of the car park with the customers.Yob noise friday and saturday pub emptying nights. hunting dog barking gone 1 am twice other nights. think they belonged to our neighbours and slept in a trailer. Even found questionable stains on mattress when we stripped bed at end of stay to help the lady as being one job less for her, and we had laid on for a week and there was no mattress protection so they are permanant....shudder... The lady from the pub was trying to do everything and seemed may be was just too busy to get it cleaned well in quick turn around. . No freezer box in fridge which if one self caters they need. Our meats had to go in pub freezer. Builder noise early morning 7.30 and often throughout day cutting metal and banging when we were in residence. If just one problem we would have gritted our teeth but this all went badly wrong and we were glad to get off home again. Not helped when we both went down with horrible colds and cough. I have tried to mark a fair score rather then all doom and gloom. would have loved to given a good score but I need to be honest. The hot water took an age in kitchen to come through the combi , it seemed wasteful running it down the sink so long until warms up, so boiled kettles for that use, otherwise nice and hot water in bathroom and heating easy to use too, sofas old and 1 tilted back a lot and not sure about the gnawed by dog scruffy table box.. we are not dog owners but aware it was a dog friendly rental. But, it was not even shabby chic just shabby. We had booked this place after choosing the area first then because it had a dishwasher, bathroom on same floor as bedroom and I think there was mentioned a peaceful location. Enough dishes etc, maybe a few more t- spoons and a veg knife. we always bring a lidded casserole and foil and glad this time to cover our food whilst cooking! maybe 2 T towels and cloths as they soon build up with bacteria, again old ones come with us as normally needed."

"The cottage was smaller than we imagined and the furnishings were in need of an upgrade; consequently it was not particularly comfortable. The mattresses were very soft and really need replacing, on one of them we could actually feel the springs. Both the sofas were in need of replacement. A cottage holiday is one where you expect to be as comfortable as possible away from home and unfortunately this was not the case for us. We understand that a refurb is due for next season. It was brilliant that we were able to take our old dog with us and she really enjoyed it, and we weren't charged extra for her which is a really good plus point, however, disappointingly there was no back garden that we could let her out onto. In fact the only entrance and egress was directly onto the car park of the pub that the cottage was built on. The view from the ground floor bedroom was a work site. In effect if you weren't out and about enjoying the wonderful British countryside and wanted to take advantage of the sun then other than going over to the pub itself the only alternative was to sit on a dining chair at the cottage door watching the punters arrive and leave!. The landlord of the pub was welcoming and everyone did everything they could to help us. The pub on site had its advantages and we were never far from a drink! The food it offered in the restaurant was first class if a little on the pricey side. We would go so far as to say that in some respects this was the best pub food we have ever eaten and we told the chef this too. We enjoyed our stay and took advantage of the many things there are to see and visit around and about the New Forest, our hosts were very nice but the cottage itself was a little disappointing. hopefully some of the things that we mention can be addressed for next season, unfortunately some won't be able to be and the lack of garden or somewhere to sit outdoors in the evening enjoying a drink and a little privacy means that we won't revisit this cottage again. We may revisit the restaurant though if we are ever back in the area! Cleaning equipment includinf a vacuum and a sweeping brush would have been welcomed"

"This was smaller than expected ,especially for the price, and definitely NOT suitable for young children. You have to go through the main bedroom to get to the bathroom/toilet . The kitchen is neat and well equipped but is so small there's no room to store any food !! The upstairs bedroom was literally 3 single beds on a mezzanine floor, the only storage was a small clothes rail . Despite the write up saying there was wifi this is not the case - not even a phone signal ! If you want to use wifi you have to go across the car park into the pub . If you stood in the carpark you could get a signal but this is obviously far from ideal! Our kids are 11 &9 and they coped ok but small kids or a family with mixed teens would have had problems I think .The location was abit too far away from things for us but this would suit a couple, or a few friends with dogs who enjoy country walks, if using this for a base to explore the area you seem to be about an hours drive from anything ! Had this just been a get away for my wife and I it would have been great as it's very peaceful and the staff at the pub are very friendly and welcoming ( they do a lovely pint of cider too ) .we didn't try the food , the menu looked lovely , but pricey for a pub - could have easily spent £75 on lunch for 4 !! Overall nice little cottage if you like long country walks with the dog and want to get away from everything , but too small, too far away from things ,and overpriced for what it is . 5 out of 10 :-("

"A very cosy cottage with a great inn literally just outside the door and very friendly and welcoming hosts. The location is pleasant and you can walk from the door, and it's an easy drive to the "centre" of the New Forest. There is only one bathroom, reached through the double bedroom, and no separate dining room, so the living space is somewhat small, but we coped fine with a family of five, with the 3 kids aged 9-13. The beds were all very comfortable and the hot water was from a combi boiler, which once going for a minute provided unlimited hot water. Outside, you are right on the edge of the village green, a great space for letting the dog (or the kids) have an extra run in a fairly well enclosed space (we have a dog who's not great at recall, but although she could have got under some of the wire fences, they proved enough of a barrier to at least put her off).We ate twice at the Compasses Inn - a Saturday lunch and a Sunday roast; both meals were excellent, and the deserts were sumptuous. Very friendly service and atmosphere.Other things: we had no phone reception (O2) (joy!); TV had good Freeview reception. We did not investigate whether there was wi-fi (though I saw no sign that there was)."

"Very basic cottage, very unclean and items not supplied as requested. The cottage was extremely small with the upstairs bedroom being open plan, meaning that if you had children which were going to sleep before us adults, there was no way of closing a door etc, this was not clear when booking, had we known that we would not have booked. We requested a high chair, cot and stair gate upon arrival - none were supplied upon arrival or were even known about by the landlord - having not being passed that information by yourselves (apparently). They gave us a high chair from the pub and a cot from their hotel and then a couple of days later a stair gate which had parts missing and didn't fit - I had to buy cable ties to hold it in place after 3 days of moving furniture to ensure that the little one's sleeping area was secure. When moving furniture, I found it had not been moved for years and there was a lot of dust and dog hairs around the place and it smelt of dog's when we arrived. We have hired cottages a number of times before for roughly half the cost of what we paid here and never had any of these issues. Very disappointed and will not be staying or recommending again."
