"Wisteria Cottage provides lovely views and is at the end of a lane so is in a reasonably quiet location. It is at the top of a hill so you need to be fit enough to walk up unless you have a car. Situated well in order to get to main places of interest. 2 pubs in Bonsall both of which do excellent food and the people were very friendly and welcoming. A local shop pretty well stocked on essentials and the tea rooms do a great breakfast. As for the cottage itself, overall it was clean but the kitchen could do with some things being replaced. 2 mugs had chips in, the frying pan has seen better days and some of the cupboard shelves looked dirty. There were out of date packets etc which had been left by previous occupants. The wash cloths didn't look very clean either. As the week progressed there was a strong smell of rotten cabbage/drains in the kitchen and the downstairs shower room smelt a bit damp. Despite the owner saying that she'd see us on our day of arrival we didn't see her all week. There was no information pack about the cottage or local area e.g. bus times, local places of interest, the village itself, recycling etc.Overall the cottage was fine as a base for a week but the above points let it down and mean that we wouldn't choose to stay there again."

"Very comfortable for 2 people, but very cramped for 4. Took 10 minutes to find the double bedroom, an armchair sits in front of the door! To move the dining table out for 4 people requires blocking access to the twin room and the bathroom. The cleanliness in general was excellent but the underneath of various pots and pans had not been cleanedy previous users. Kitchen was well equipped with items not many people would use on holiday but we couldn't find any baking trays (to put pies, quiches on to heat). Only space for one person in the kitchen at any time. The worst thing of all was the constant noise from the flat above, we felt we were living underneath a herd of elephants! Having said all that, once we could move our luggage into the twin room (2 people were only staying 2 nights) it was much more comfortable and the owner was friendly and helpful. The view from the double bedroom was lovely, although people staying in the other properties drive or walk past the window so curtains need to be closed most of the time."

"Cotton Cottage was ideal for a family holiday visiting caves and hill walking to inspire two 13 year old people. We had a supermarket delivery the eve of our arrival and the many cafes, restaurants and pubs sorted meals. The footpath to Lose hill is opposite the gate and from there you can walk the hills round to Mam Tor. The cottage is comfy with a TV in the spacious lounge and also in 2 of the 3 bedrooms. You wake to a cockerel and chickens in the yard and horses close by. The kitchen has attractive quality farmhouse style crockery and chunky glasses. Adequate cooking utensils microwave and 2 fridges were really useful. The owner who lives in the nearby farmhouse was around and friendly and in no way intrusive. The garden is lovely with several seats with views of the valley. We will return!!"

"Highly recommend this for solo travellers or couples. Could possibly be a little on top of each other with additional larger kids or adults in the lower room. I adore the split levels - especially the platform bedroom off the lounge, though it does mean the bathroom is 3 flights down. Decor is a little dated but everything is functional and perfect for a short break. View is fantastic from the lounge. Middle of nowhere (which is what I like) but 2 mins drive from an amazing bookshop/cafe and 10mins from Buxton. Easy driving reach of several National Trust properties and the National Park. Didn't revisit Chatsworth this trip but would another time. I'd definitely use this property again."

"A very disappointing start, in that as we walked into the cottage there was an overwhelming smell of drains particularly near the sink in the kitchen. The grill was dirty, so we did not use that. The lighting in either of the two bathrooms was poor for shavers, and there was no plug for electric razors. The crockery was largely good, but one of the three mugs was badly chipped on the rim. There was no folder in the cottage to inform us about the cottage and disposal of recycling items etc. We also did not see either the owner or caretaker, so could not ask about these. The bed, a 5foot, was very comfortable, with clean linens."
