"This is a very attractive, comfortable, clean cottage set in lovely Ayrshire countryside attached to the friendly helpful owners home. The views are gorgeous and on a good day you can see Arran and lots of wildlife from the cottage windows. The website pictures do not do the place justice. Andrew the owner is very friendly and on hand for any advice or problems but leaves you to enjoy the peace and beauty of this often overlooked area otherwise. There was a lovely welcome basket and milk in the fridge which was a much appreciated by us after a long journey. There was even a pack of treats for our dog....some cheesy treats which he loved despite usually not being a fan of such things! We really enjoyed the local beaches and little towns, eg Troon and had a fantastic day trip over to Arran. We had come for my father's funeral in Glasgow (this is also close by) but ended up having a really lovely holiday week. It has the peace of the countryside but there are lots of supermarkets nearby for provisions and there is a popular Indian restaurant within walking distance. And we didn't find the roads bad at all unlike a previous review. You just have to drive with care nearby, as with all country roads. The cottage itself is in a quiet lane with a beautiful ruin nearby. So overall, this is a great place to have a holiday, near the beautiful Ayrshire coast but also the attractions of Glasgow."

"We are just back from a wonderful week in S23477. It was heaven on earth. The comfort was second to none, albeit the décor was set in the 70s but the bungalow used to be a granny annex and has not been updated. Even so there was a comforting presence which reminded us of our parent's homes so we were relaxed immediately. The accommodation was absolutely spotless and the location was superb. The views from all the windows was over open countryside (30 miles distant, we were told). The owners were so warm and welcoming, there was a welcome gift of a jar of homemade strawberry jam and a jar of homemade marmalade on our arrival, they were absolutely delicious too. Our dog was so happy and contented. The grounds around S23477 are really lovely. Ruby, our dog, just roamed, sat and slept in the sunshine on the lovely grass all around. The local village, Tarbolton, was a mile away and we had to drive to get there as there are no footpaths (which is awkward when you are walking with a dog). Nevertheless, we drove out to Ayr, Troon, Saltcoats and Largs and walked for miles along the lovely sandy beaches and picked up supplies of any food we needed while we were out. We were very lucky with the weather too, temperatures reaching 24 degrees on most days. Everything was really superb and we will definitely make the 7 hour trip to stay at S23477 again."

"We were really disappointed with our stay. It started off badly when the owner wouldn’t answer my calls or phone me back. He only communicated by text message. We were told the hot tub would be ready at 7pm on our arrival night (disappointing when check in was 3pm) but it was actually 9.30pm before it was warm enough to use. We contacted the owner to help with this but was told we just had to wait. On our second day the shower in the main bathroom leaked through the living room ceiling so we had pots and pans dotted about the room to collect the drips. Again, reported to the owner but no response. The lodge is definitely in need of TLC and was only half ready for our arrival. The glasses and cutlery were dirty, main bin wasn’t emptied and towels from the previous guests still in the dryer. Eventually we left early on the Sunday instead of staying till the Monday. Very disappointed as this is an annual trip with friends. Found out the lodge is up for sale so guessing the owner has lost interest in this."

"This is a great place to stay. The owner is great and very helpful. We spent a week here with our two Shih Tzu's and they loved it with the big garden fully enclosed except the gate but they never even tried to go though it. Inside is very clean and comfortable with everything you would need. We were even able to record a programme we wanted to see so that we were able to see it later in the week. Beds clean and comfortable. Shower great with a bath if you would rather use. Only down side is the local drivers who think that the lane outside is a race track as they now it well, so be very careful when driving around corners. (Buy a dashcam for evidence). We had our Grandchildren stay for 2 nights and were made very welcome. The welcome pack of milk, tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits is a very nice touch by the owner. All in all, I would recommend this place to all and will be returning ourselves in the future."

"A comfortable and pleasant place to spend a week. Beautiful feeling of isolation in the best possible sense - quiet, peaceful and an estate to wander around...but Tesco is 2 miles down a country road! S70052 has a satisfying sense of space for a one-bedroom cottage. We had a warm welcome from Adrian and a pleasant conversation about the estate. He invited us to pay a visit up at the main house to view the Old Stables apartment, which we did. The apartment is next on our list! Gilminscroft is well situated for exploring Ayrshire and beyond - Ayr, Glasgow, Arran, the Clyde coast. However, one of our best trips was walking around Gilminscroft itself after a glass of wine. Just don't forget your camera, as I did. We enjoyed the cottage itself. It is well appointed. The books, prints and ornaments add the perfect touch. In short, we had a splendid week and would not hesitate to return to Gilminscroft."
