"Raspberry Cottage is a very pretty cottage from the outside. The garden and outlook are lovely with views across open countryside to the side/rear as it is at the end of a terrace (the only thatched cottage). The local pub is approximately 200 metres from the cottage and serves food. We found it a friendly place and the food was typical pub fare, although they had run out of some options while we were there as it was busy. The location is good as it is close to Deal (10 mins drive) which was a lovely place to visit as were Sandwich and Canterbury (30 mins). Inside, the lounge area was comfortable with a working fireplace that we made use of (although you need your own supplies). The dining room is a good size with all the utensils/crockery provided and a good sized table to sit around. There are historical touches around the cottage that add interest and make it homely. The kitchen and bathroom areas are small and somewhat dated. We had gone with the intention of cooking some of our meals but really the kitchen is not suitable (cooker could do with updating and oven trays were very dirty) so we stuck to making pasta on the first night and then just having breakfast there. The damp smell from the bathroom can be a little invasive but this is probably due to the fact it's not mains drainage. The bedrooms are a good size, although the mattresses have definitely seen better days. Washing up liquid/cloths etc were supplied and we were also left some long life milk/tea/coffee/sugar. Other than that, you need to ensure that you bring supplies (we didn't bring toilet roll as we thought it would be supplied - it wasn't - yet there was a box of tissues in the bedroom and a kitchen roll in the kitchen, so possibly an oversight). However, that said, for the price we paid, we still thought it was a good deal and it is a very sweet little cottage with so much potential."

"Firstly, if you are looking for a minimalist house without personal items then this is not for you. If however, you want somewhere quirky, with steep stairs but lots of character that's in a really really great location and that has a little outside space for sitting and chatting and a separate second lower lounge snug (perfect for the football watchers amongst our group) and only a two minute walk from the beach or town, then this is for you. The cottage was well equipped, okay it's a little dated and maybe not to my taste but it may be to yours, and it was certainly clean enough (I'm not on Four in a Bed so I didn't lift the mattresses or inspect the bathroom with a microscope!) and the location was spot on being in the conservation area, and we got parked for free just up the road after unloading at the door. There were 5 of us and it's certainly big enough, but do be careful as if you aren't that mobile as the stairs are quite a challenge. Overall I would recommend if you want a comfortable weekend in Deal."

"I've been staying in cottages for many years and Claire's Cottage is my favourite so far. Despite being tiny it is light, comfortable, cosy and very well equipped with a pretty garden. It has been restored beautifully retaining nearly all the original and historic features and it's interesting to look at the album showing photos of the restoration. The location is excellent. You can walk into Hythe (if you have the energy to walk back up the hill) which is a historic little town of great character and there are plenty of interesting places to see in the Romney Marshes without having to go far. If you have a wet day use it to go to Dungeness on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway! I have already recommended this cottage to a friend and I am sure I shall visit it again in the future."

"Hello Cath, Thank for your contribution to what was an excellent holiday. We've been visiting Deal annually for over 12 years now and Samphire is easily one of the best holiday cottages we've ever stayed in; local to the seafront and high street and exceptionally well equipped - In addition to that there are the quaint and very comfortable aspects of the cottage itself. It is a real home from home. The only downside - which we couldn't have predicted - was that when we made the booking, I did not realise/know that I would be bedding in a new replacement knee! So the spiral staircases were a 'challenge', especially on the way down (!) Samphire is top of our list for our visit to Deal next year. Cheers and thanks once again. Jane, Stewart and Fiona"

"Thank you for the lovely welcome, really enjoyed the cream tea and for a wonderful holiday. The cottage is a real home from home, all the little details were covered. Restful décor and furnishings, very comfy bed. Communication very good and all queries answered quickly and small issue with the shower sorted immediately. So many lovely places to visit, spoilt for choice. Recommend Walmer Castle, Great Dixter gardens, Dymchurch beach, Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway and Deal. A lovely atmosphere at the opening of the Hythe Festival. Will definitely come back and recommend to friends and family. A huge bonus is the beautiful garden, eating breakfast and evening meals outside and just pottering!' Thank you"
