"The cottage is a beautiful building, perfectly located in a quiet village. There are no pubs or shops in the village but there are facilities fairly close by, a bike ride or quick drive away. There is plenty of parking onsite and the cottage sits in pretty grounds and beautifully maintained gardens. The cottage is a really good size for two people, the bedroom was large and the living area and kitchen (which are upstairs) are cosy and have everything you need. There is a huge amount of storage, which means suitcases, bags, boots and winter clothes can be put away easily and not tripped over. The cottage is very welcoming and was just lovely over the Christmas period; the views from every window were idyllic and when we arrived we were treated to fresh mince pies and gingerbread, which was a lovely surprise. There was also a Christmas tree decorated for us and there was an illuminated garland over the fireplace! The bathroom is immaculate, it's a decent size and brand new. The shower was powerful and the bath is large as well as fairly deep. There is a large hallway, which made the cottage feel even bigger, there was even a tumble dryer and washing machine tucked away next to the front door. The staircase should be easy to manage for most people. My only problem with the property is the temperature. It was COLD! The upstairs could be warmed up easily and be cosy and warm but the downstairs (the bedroom, hallway and bathroom were so cold all the time). We had a few days and nights where it was below zero outside and we had two days of snow but the inside shouldn't be that cold. The storage heaters were warm if you stood directly in front of them but they didn't warm up the rooms at all; standing a foot away from the heater you couldn't feel the warmth. The bathroom only had a towel heater (which do not heat up a room in a modern house let alone a Georgian cottage!) I would like to visit this cottage again, but definitely in the summer. I was very grateful for the extra blankets but we had to walk around the cottage in four or more layers and wrap up in blankets, being downstairs was not relaxing or comfortable at all, we were just aware of the chill. The temperature was a problem but the positives of this cottage do slightly outweigh the single negative. Just remember to pack your bed socks!!"

"Sadly we had a difficult journey to get to the cottage, however all our tension disappeared as soon as we saw the beautiful setting it is in. Then we went inside.....WOW!!! The cottage is stunning! The whole place is spotlessly clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The owners have clearly thought of everything, right down to kitchen utensils and matches! The information book is a godsend and the welcome gift was a lovely surprise, especially after our journey. Everywhere we looked around the cottage there was evidence that this obviously a well loved, and maintained home. We were instantly comfortable and it was wrench to tear ourselves away at the end of our stay. The garden is gorgeous and sitting in the conservatory, relaxing in recliner chairs and watching the birds, became the norm for us. The garden is teeming with life and there was such a rich array of birds to watch as they came to the bird feeders. We lost count of the varieties and it was another reason for us to want to return to S18642.The local area is beautiful and there are so many walks and places to go within a short distance. We loved the fact that, within 5 minutes walk, we were in the middle of unspoilt countryside and were watching the lambs and cows in the local fields. We cannot wait to return to S18642 and would more than happily recommend it to anyone who wants to have a relaxed, comfortable and welcoming home from home in this beautiful part of the Country.Steve and Julie"

"Great location for a walking holiday . Village has good amenities, pub , fish and chip shop and local store. Cottage requires some immediate attention , there was a strong damp smell particularly in the lounge area . The shower is extremely small and has very low water pressure . The final morning we had very low water pressure , took five minutes to fill the kettle and we were unable to shower. The emergency number given did not answer . There had been a leak in the property next door , a plumber had been called out who lowered the pressure but unfortunately this affected us , although we were not informed until after our holiday. It was also a shame the door in the kitchen doesn’t open onto the patio area , this may have helped let air into the cottage and lessen the damp smell. The unit in front of the door is mobile , so do not understand the reason we were given for this door not opening . The drains outside the kitchen were also blocked and when the sink was emptied this just sat on the patio area . I believe this must be an ongoing problem as there was a bottle of drain unblocker under the sink .I would not recommend this property for a holiday in its current condition ."

"S89761 was beautifully presented and very on-trend in its decoration. It definitely had an historical appeal as one of the cottages built for the workers of the Lowther estate which was nearby. We stayed in a heatwave so the thick stone walls provided much needed relief from the sun. The double bed was comfortable and as there were only two of us we didn't use the twin room, however I would comment that it would probably be most suitable for children as it was rather tiny and there wasn't much storage for clothing. The window in our bedroom opened but didn't have stays so could flap in high winds. The downstairs living room window did open but took two people to shut due to over-painting.The bathrooms were well decorated and had good facilities with high-end toiletries provided. However the separation of shower and bath meant more movement up and downstairs. We also missed an upstairs toilet! The kitchen was well-equipped except we had to improvise to replace the lack of egg cups. The induction hob was appreciated."

"Comfortable cottage, clean and well equipped, good location, close to M6 junction 39. Handy for all the lakes and local mountains. Shame that the rear parking space cant be used, but car was safe, parked on the main road. Local co-op is ok , Shap chippy is very good, and Abbey coffee shop sells nice cakes. Butchers opposite the cottage is a bit wacky, and sells Cumberland sausage by the metre it seems. Large supermarkets in Kendal 16 miles or Penrith 10 miles. We had good weather and the cottage garden was nice to sit out in. It is safe for dogs, and there are some local walks for dogs. It is sheep country, so we had to keep our dog on the lead a lot locally. Wellies are a must, as is towels to prevent muddy paws soiling the light hall way carpet if coming in the front door. Finally the attic room has low beams, it is a nice room, but could give a tall person a headache, if are they are not careful.Overall one of the better cottages we have stayed in."
