"That being said…. wow! This small site has just shot straight to the top of the list for a revisit. ***Before we begin –As at March 2018, do not use Google Maps to assess the property – it has been extensively renovated and this isn’t reflected in the satellite image***Let’s start with accessibility. Head south to Winchester on the A34, turn left, 20 minutes of countryside and you’re there. It doesn’t really get a lot simpler than that. As for the location; blimey, it’s gorgeous! Think atypical country village with pretty little church and cracking county pub. No streetlights, no pavements, hardly any people and, most importantly, no noise! The peace and quiet is almost deafening, punctuated infrequently by a passing Landrover or “squark” of local wildlife. What about the accommodation? Well, it’s been done well. Really well! When you come on these cottage holidays, you have to, at times, expect a level of “rustic charm”. Not here, while the outside is pure countryside, the inside is akin to a new build show home. Everything you want, everything you need, is right here already. The living area is comfortable; small but without being cramped. The bedroom is huge, and the bed is incredible… and bigger than my car! The bathroom is SO well finished and so impressive, that my wife is already starting to look at gutting our bathroom at home. All in all, this little cabin has been finished to an incredible standard and hasn’t missed a thing! Now, the most important part of the review – the Springer Spaniel perspective. Many places say “dog friendly”, by which they mean they’ll allow dogs. This place is different; they WELCOME dogs. You arrive to dog bowls and poo bags ready and waiting after the drive. The owner has acknowledged that most Spaniels can’t read and don’t care much for the “stay off the sofa” rules. The best owners in the world will turn their back occasionally, so they’ve got you covered and have provided throws to protect the furniture…just in case. The little garden area is secure enough, with a (at its lowest) waist high fence. Beyond the digs, the very pretty, disused railway is a 10 minute walk from the cabin (you’ll need a short lead as this is accessed by a fairly narrow road). The local pub accepts dogs and we all had a cracking meal in the bar one evening. Finally, the owner – Gill was friendly, warm and welcoming. You can see the love that’s been poured into this location everywhere you look. The walled garden was beautiful, and that’s in March. By the middle of summer, it’ll be exquisite. While you only see Gill very briefly here and there, she certainly adds a finishing touch to a brilliant place! What’s the conclusion then? Should I visit this place? Were you not reading what I wrote above? Of course you should! Take a really comfy hotel suite… plonk it in the Hampshire countryside…. Add your dogs… and you’ve got Garden Cottage."

"We stayed in the Courtyard Cottage for a long relaxing weekend with our 2 dogs and we all thoroughly enjoyed it and didn’t want to leave. Gill was very friendly and helpful when I called to arrange key collection which is pick up via a Keysafe outside the property. Gill did pop round to make sure all was well a little later when we had settled in. We knew then that she was easily contactable if we needed anything but then she left us alone. Thank you for the treats for us and the dogs very welcoming. The dog bowls was a nice touch. There is parking for 2 cars right outside the front door. These cottages are in a lovely quiet location. Pub in walking distance that provides food. Pretty church just down the round. Great Views around the cottages and there is the use of a lovely Walled garden next to the cottages (dogs not allowed). There is decent wifi within this property. The superking bed was very very comfortable which I’m sure the twin room beds would have been too but on this occasion it was just the two of us. The place kept us lovely and warm as it was a cold weekend that we went. This is a good property to bring dogs as there is a small but secure garden and walks on the doorstep. Table and chairs on the paved patio area to enjoy the views if the weather was better as we had mainly rain but that didn’t dampen our stay. Love the idea of the Laundry room and Boot room separate from the cottages. We will definitely be back."

"Excellent location; nice and peaceful; accommodation fairly clean; several cobwebs that should have been dealt with in the cleaning before occupancy; ensuite to double bedroom smelt of stale water because sealant around shower was missing in places; shower tray partially filled when showering due to hair down plug hole; bath in twin ensuite was extremely slow to fill and hair down that plug hole too; electrical socket behind bedside table was gaffer taped to the wall; had to move wheelie bins from under double bedroom window as the smell was horrendous, smelt like dead flesh therefore flies were in abundance; kitchen cupboards nearly all full of utensils so not a lot of space for food; some utensils not as clean as they could be; frying pan was a little rusty so unable to use; double room bed very comfortable; sofa and armchairs a bit low for us and not very comfortable; oven a bit grubby; plenty of storage space in bedroom; garden very pretty and well kept; the pigs were gorgeous; owners father apologised for bins under window, he washed the wheelie bin out after they were emptied by refuse collection, gaffer tape on socket, he explained it was difficult finding time to repair it due to lettings, also apologised for hair down plug holes very pleasant gentleman."

"There is so much to say about this place and all of it is good! The cottage is exceptional. It was much larger than we had expected, so well equipped and spotlessly clean. Gill was extremely welcoming and helpful. The flowers, eggs, milk, biscuits and dog treats were a lovely surprise. The homemade marmalade was especially good! Soberton is a lovely village, with a great pub serving very good food. We have had such fantastic weather and it has been so nice to be able to relax, either in the garden at the cottage or having a cold drink at the pub, which is just a short walk away. The walled garden is so beautiful, a place of true tranquility and a real credit to Gill. We have enjoyed great walks along the Meon Valley right from the cottage door. We have visited many lovely places; Bishops Waltham, Langstone, Emsworth, Lymington and Bosham, to name a few. The walk to Old Winchester Hill was so worth it for the views across the South Downs. West Wittering beach was beautiful and great for our dog to take a cooling dip. We really and sincerely did not want to leave and hope to be back very soon."

"We stayed a fortnight to be near our daughter who lives nearby, awaiting the imminent birth of her second child - that didn't happen during the fortnight! However, the cottage was brilliant in every way. Comfortable, modern, well planned and well equipped. In addition it had its own fenced garden that we were able to eat in as the weather was excellent. There was also a Courtyard the other side of the cottage which overlooked a walled garden - another brilliant asset to the cottage - which could be accessed at any time of the day or evening. It was like a NT garden on your doorstep! Additionally, there was a separate large field where we could exercise our springer spaniel. There are separate laundry and boot rooms within the Courtyard area so in wet weather these would be a real asset for walkers in particular. The surrounding countryside must be some of England's best and only a short walk from the cottage is the local pub, a very interesting church and a footpath leading to the river Meon."
