"I booked the hideaway from Australia, it seemed to tick all the boxes. On arrival the hideaway is an annexed part of a bungalow in a suburb of St. Andrews. It has parking in the driveway which is really handy. The accomodation is at the rear of the house with a private garden. The owner Mike was available on arrival to show us through his property, he was friendly and welcoming. The accomodation is compact and well appointed. Washing machine but no dryer, washing line in the garden. Good sized fridge and freezer and well equiped kitchen. Shower over the bath was good and lots of hot water.Very quiet area and lots of privacy. Milk in the fridge and tea, coffee and cleaning products much appreciated.Sadly when we arrived both my husband and I detected the stale cigarette smoke, surprised as the accomodation was non smoking and there were obvious signs. The towels, bedding and robes smelt of cigarettes ☹️😧We went to the local Morrison supermarket and bought new towels. We washed the towels and robes but couldn't get them dried as it was raining ☹️We bought air freshener but the smell remained all week and it spoilt our stay.My husband determined that the stale cigarette smell was coming through the vents and window so it wasn't from previous guests. If you are a smoker and this wouldn't bother you then I'd recommend the hideaway but if you can't stand the smell of cigarettes then this isn't a place I can recommend"

"A nice 2 bedroom cottage with car parking at the door that we would gladly visit again. The location is good. On the main road through Upper Largo with easy access. The cottage is clean with a bathroom/Shower and a shower room.In terms of equipment, a well stocked kitchen with a wee back patio big enough to sit in and have a BBQ.We were left a wee box of treats for us and our dogs (Thank you Sue who showed us the ropes). There is abundant information about the house and local attractions etc.The Upper Largo hotel 100 mtrs along the road has a good pub with a decent menu. The walk down to Lower Largo and the beach is a 15 minute walk down the hill. There is a country path that can be accessed down the bottom of the hill down from the Upper Largo Hotel. The walk is safe for dogs and exits in the centre of Lower Largo. There are a couple of good pubs down at the beach. We became regulars of the Crusoe. The whole area is dog friendlyThe matress is a little soft for me (This is a personal preference) and a lighter summer Duvet would be appreciated (I know this is an extrordinarily hot summer)I would certainly recomend the area and the cottageWe will visit again"

"St Andrew's Hideaway suited us perfectly (a couple with one small dog). Comfortable, well-equipped accommodation with enclosed garden. 15 minute walk from the centre of town. Owner Mike was welcoming and on hand if we had needed anything.Lovely beaches, the West Sands was excellent for walking the dog - it stretches for miles and there's free parking right at the beach. The East Sands is close to the Cathedral and Castle. Spoilt for choice with cafes, restaurants and shops! Little Italy was great food, nice cosy ambience and excellent service, Mitchell's offers brunch and healthy options, Tailend - sit in or take away for a variety of fresh fish / seafood.Special treats for us were the Michelin star restaurant The Peat Inn - 6 miles outside St Andrews and Balgove Steak Barn (3 miles) - more expensive but worth it. Would definitely recommend St Andrew's Hideaway, it was ideally situated in a peaceful area with easy access to the town."

"Best described as "adequate". A quirky mish-mash of what was obviously two very different properties so, to be fair, difficult to achieve a cohesive environment. Definitely in need of some cosmetic surgery.Great location . . . . very quiet but not to far from the harbour/marina/beach. Also, just around the corner from The Dreel Tavern, a candidate for the best "real pub" I've ever been in !We stayed for three nights, which was just OK, but not a cottage we'd want to stay in for a week.A major problem was the gas boiler, which cut out on at least twelve occasions over our stay . . . . seven times in one evening ! Woke up to cold water on two of our three mornings. I suspect the issue may have been the flue being buffetted by very strong winds. However, no matter the cause, it's simply not good enough."

"lovely location, can't say a word against it. great for the coastal walk or pop over to Elie and do the chain walk - well worth the visit. Eating and drinking are well taken care of whether it's an ice cream, great fish and chips or a lovely meal at the dreel tavern (great atmosphere, welcoming staff and a good range of beer and whisky if you're in the mood. Parking is a bit of a pain as the nearest place is down near the water - if you can get a place. The house was nice but just seemed a bit over priced for what it was, a more up to date music system with usb/bluetooth connectivity and an upgrade on the TV to a slightly larger screen would help for those cold east coast nights. Blown light bulbs and a rope bannister that had already started pulling out of the wall also let it down a bit."
