"On arrival we were surprised that previous reviews had described the cottage as spacious. As a group of 5, we found that the awkward size / shape / layout of the seating area made it difficult to all watch TV together in the evening. Whilst it's nice to have an extra sofa away from the TV for those wanting to read, the seating near the TV only had 2x two-seater sofas and 2x dentist waiting room- The seating area is also the through-route between the kitchen, bathroom, pool room and staircase, so it felt a bit like a corridor at times. I think the cottage would be most suited to a group that wants to spend evening sitting around the large kitchen table, or perhaps two couples who want to go out early hill walking and spend evenings in the pub. Positives: clean; plenty of hot water and the shower was good; corner room bed was comfortable; pool table was great; the north-east facing garden has views over countryside; the wifi was fine; there are a 2/3 really good National Trust properties in the wider area but driving there takes quite a while. There's a steam railway close by. Negatives: the property is right next the A52 so there is 50mph traffic noise from 6am; bathroom radiator is too small for the room which is cold; condensation problems causing puddles in the bathroom and kitchen; bathroom and kitchen floors are freezing, bring your slippers; cooking was challenging at times due to poor quality pans, but the oven was good. Overall, we thought the property was quite expensive for what we got, compared to others we have stayed in, especially as it isn't in the most popular location."

"Really cute cottage, a true home from home with everything you need. The only reason local amenities scored lower than 10 was obviously since this isn't a town or urban location (which is obviously it's charm) that then means that a car is probably needed if you are intending to shop in bulk for a family if you haven't brought something or need supplies, however, the local shops stock most things needed within a nice reasonable hiking distance through stunning countryside and the larger towns and villages are around ten/twenty minutes drive. I adored the comfy clean interior, my doggy loved it the family loved it and the exterior views are stunning. The only thing that could make the place a teeny bit better would be a larger garden with a hot tub and extra parking however there is space for one possibly two small cars so it's only a minor consideration not to take a Bentley for eg and the garden terrace that is present is lovely, well presented and being raised at the front of the property with seating overlooking stunning views is to be quite honest more than ample."

"We had an excellent week at Barn Owl Lodge. Living in the countryside with wonderful views of hills, trees and fields was extremely relaxing and the facilities provided were first rate. We really enjoyed watching the birds. All the fittings and equipment were of top quality and the beds and seating areas were very comfortable. A poor internet or mobile signal in the cottage, beyond the control of the owner, meant that an Ordnance Survey type map of the area would have been helpful at times rather than the small scale maps on local attraction leaflets. For much of the time we relied on the satnav which served us well. We had an excellent holiday and would be very happy to return in the future."

"We have a lovely weekend meeting up with friends and family. The house is beautiful! There was some maintenance work being done when we were there but once this is completed I imagine the house will be perfect. We were greeted by Amy who was lovely, very accommodating and told us everything we needed to know. The location of the house is in a isolated position -which was great for us as we enjoyed the walks in the immediate countryside however it is a short drive to the local village and the nearest shop which could be problematic. Overall, we all had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at Park Lodge."

"Very clean, cosy cottage in fantastic area for walking. Comfortable beds although bedrooms rather over crowded with large furniture and too many heavy blankets. Lovely modern bathroom however toilet was quite unstable. Very well equipped kitchen and great woodburner. Settees very low, elderley parents struggled to get up once sat down and a lack of handrail on outside steps to patio meant having to move bench for them to sit out and enjoy the gorgeous views. A brilliant area for walks from the doorstep and The Red Lion pub at Hognaston serves lovely food. We would certainly stay again."
