"This property is the dirtiest, most dangerous and worst maintained holiday home we have ever rented. The photos provided do not show how it is now. They appear to have been taken years ago. Also, note that the ‘cleaner’ lives next door. I’ll just list the issues to save space. The 2 rear bedrooms have windows which open fully outwards with no child locks. So your kids could fall 15ft to the patio below. The bunk bed cannot be used safely because there isn’t space for the ladder to attach to the correct side. Your kids will have to climb over the end of the bed, while you hold the electric light out of the way.The fridge was last tested in 2008 and gets warm on the front, indicating a major fault. The electric cooker is almost usable (as you can barely see the dials) and dates from approx 2003. Getting the oven on is so convoluted they have to leave instructions. We spent the first 2 hours cleaning all the cutlery, cutlery drawer, a pile of plates and bowls and all the work surfaces. As they were all sticky, grimy and unusable. The sink doesn’t have a draining board, you have to use a metal tray as the side. A plate stand is shown in the photos but wasn’t there when we had the property. All the kitchen work surfaces are wood and are very old with cracks and black mould. A lot of the silicone and grouting is dirty, old or missing. The kitchen and dining room floor have bare floorboards, with noticeable gaps, which move and flex when walking on them, some parts stick up from the floor and could cause injury. The house is infested with slugs. We had slug trails on our shoes most mornings and even accidentally stood on one. You can’t use the dining room shown as they have crammed in an extra armchair and double settee. The latter serves to block the double patio doors which have no handles or visible locks and pose a large security risk. The downstairs toilet is in (not off) the kitchen, the shower screen was not clean and there was dirt and pubes in the shower tray and tiles were hanging off the wall. The door can accidentally lock itself, and yet, can only open halfway due to the full sized Mangle they have in the kitchen as an ornament, I presume. The upstairs bathroom was equally dirty except the toilet is almost unusable since the toilet roll holder is behind your left shoulder and you're literally crammed in between the shower and bath. All the windows were filthy both inside and out, throughout the entire house. As we all the mirrors both in the bathroom and elsewhere. It’s also completely stuffed with useless furniture and ornaments, which clearly never get cleaned. I counted 78 picture frames, but stopped counting ornaments after I got to nearly 100 in the first room alone. Despite sleeping 9, the dining room table can only seat 6, yet they have shoehorned in various chairs and settees to seat up to 38 across mainly the ground floor. The double room with single bed photo is staged as now it also has 2 wardrobes, 2 bedside tables and a small set of drawers. There is barely a foot of space around the double bed. The double wardrobe has no door handles and, in any case, one door is blocked by a bedside table. In the rest of the house, some the electrical sockets and switches date from the 60s and 70s. The snug area under the stairs is unusable as it full of pillows, plates fixed to the wall and ornaments. Some of the plates on display are bog standard dinner plates. Towards the back of the house, also not seen in the photos, is a large area of floor to ceiling shelves covering an area of approx 6-8m2 of wall and standing out almost a foot. It serves no purpose, other than to maybe hide some issue with the wall, looks like its been fitted by a 5 year old, and as you’ve probably guessed, it crammed with useless dirty ornaments. The house has 2 old writing bureau for some reason. One cupboard is tied shut and marked “Do Not Open” and an old Singer sewing machine forms the centrepiece of the living room. Plus points. The area is reasonably quiet, there’s a shop at the top of the road and a pub 10mins walk away."

"This was our 1st visit to S14211 having been recommended by our son & his family who visited August 2017. It had a lot to live up to compared to our previous venue that we had stayed at twice a year for the last 15 years & had recently closed down due to owners retirement. (We are former Island residents). The en-suite bedroom was ideal for our 39 yr old autistic son, especially having a TV, which saved us having to bring one for him! Generally there were no real issues except no mattress protector on the 5 ft (2nd bedroom bed). Also in that bedroom the wardrobe doors should be the other way round so that the mirrored door can be used without banging elbows on the adjacent wall & standing in the small gap between the robe & chest of drawers (there are no other mirrors in that room). The stair gate should be easily removable (negotiating it to carry suitcases /base up & down is a pain) & should be available as necessary). Oven & grill pan needs a good proper clean ( didn't use it - where was the grill pan handle?) Lower dishwasher basket/tray needs at least new wheels or replacing. Having made all these comments, we are returning for 2 weeks in September as we booked this at that the same time as our most recent visit - we did really ENJOY our stay at S14211 - comfortable beds & sofas, many extras like you have at home. plenty of spare linen/towels + the tea/coffee/milk & bottle of wine there on arrival + very friendly & helpful caretaker Danny set the tone for an enjoyable stay - thank you!"

"This is, without any doubt, the dirtiest place we have ever stayed in.The entire house, and in particular the kitchen, was very dirty and we had to wash the surfaces, the utensils, cutlery and plates before we were able to use them. The dishwasher leaks, so does the kettle. You need a torch to see the cooker dials. The patio door leading out from the dining room had no lock or handle and water came in when it was raining. The dining room chairs are broken and dangerous. One even fell apart whilst sitting on it, which easily could have ended in injury. The wooden floors and carpets need a proper deep cleaning too. The house is also infested by slugs, which could be found every day in the kitchen and the living room. Slugs are appearing from under the dish washer and the kitchen cabinet next to the cooker.Walls are dirty and holes in them can be found throughout the house, as well as in some of the ceilings. There are dead flies and dust on the windows, which are all dirty too.The bathrooms, quite frankly, should be ripped out and replaced. The shower in the shower room downstairs is broken and the upper shower cubicle is full of mould."

"The photo above is not of 268 Gurnard Pines - probably another property on the site. Gurnard Pines is described as a Holiday village but many of the properties on site are residential and some are needing some care and attention. We were advised that there was parking for 2 cars immediately outside the property. There was space for 2 cars but not solely for the use of the occupants so the space was not always available. Whilst the property was very clean and most things were in very good condition the only seating in the lounge area was 2 sofa beds - not always easy to get up from. There was only one small wardrobe in the main bedroom - nowhere to hang clothes in the other two bedrooms - which just had a chest of drawers. We were fortunate to have good weather which was good as there was nowhere in the property to hang coats etc."

"We thought that the cottage was both charming and beautifully furnished: a real home from home and we would love to come back again next year! The bathroom was particularly lovely and the kitchen had everything you could possibly need. The views from the upper floors over Southampton Water and the small courtyard garden were a real bonus. We were lucky enough to have great weather but, if it had been wet, it would have been quite cosy to have all 6 of us sitting down together in either the kitchen or the sitting room. As it was Cowes Week, it was very busy in the town and we struggled to find parking very close to the house at times but I would think it would be better at other times. It was a good walk down to the centre of Cowes where there are some great restaurants - but not so great going uphill on our return journey."
