"We hired the cottage for the last weekend in September to celebrate our parent's 50th wedding anniversary. The owner let us in earlier - as I had arrived 2 hours earlier than check-in - after a phone call which was much appreciated. The house is huge with a lovely gigantickitchen and dining room that sits 12 comfortably. All utensils and a lovely AGA and modern cooker. As a family we congregated in the kitchen both nights as it is a great space for conversation/drinks/guitar...sorry! The living room has an 80 inch TV and electric LAZYBOY chairs which were very comfortable. The other big reception room has a large TV and again, electric chairs. A great Pool table with cues and chalk and a games room for the kids (and adults) with Wii, PS4, XBOX , board games and giant connect 4.The bedrooms are sumptuous and large as is the family bathroom. The larger bedroom has a 4 poster bed and en suite too. As mentioned previously, the house would benefit from a downstairs toilet but if your party have no mobility issues, it really is not a problem. If you do, then I would choose another property as you may struggle. The village is a 5 minute walk with a big Co-op and several pubs and fish shops which was great. The cliffs are a short 20 minute walk away and worth a visit. All in all, a lovely place to stay with huge gardens to let the kids run ferrell in safety . I would recommend a stay here and I'd just like to add that the owners were quick to respond to email/text, very friendly and approachable. Thanks for an unforgettable weekend."

"A superb, well-maintained property in a quiet location and we couldn't fault it. Included was the best welcome pack we have ever received, including milk, refreshing non-alcoholic drink, biscuits, strawberries and cream and a box of chocolates! One big advantage is that the owners live nearby and are very helpful and friendly, calling in to check that all is OK both on arrival and departure, though we had no issues. The ample parking space adjacent the property was very welcome. It is a lovely quiet area, the only noise being from the sheep in the field behind. There is shop nearby but few other local amenities; however, Hornsea is 10 minutes' drive away and has shops, a retail outlet and a Tesco superstore so shopping is no problem. Sadly the local beaches now have limited access due to coastal erosion, but there are several towns nearby with sea fronts such as Hornsea, Bridlington and Scarborough. The Yorkshire Moors with Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay and the North Yorks Railway are all within easy reach. The weather was warm when we stayed but I would guess that the cottage would be warm in winter as well as it boasts oil-fired central heating, double glazing and a wood-burning stove. We stayed 4 nights and are already booked to go again in September for 7 nights. I wouldn't mind the odd chilly evening as I want an excuse to light the stove!"

"Hamilton Lodge is a stunning house in a fantastic secure garden close to a beach but it needs to choose its audience wisely. Beautiful house. Lovely bedrooms and plenty of living space if a couple of families go the space is amazing. Unfortunately the beach is down some unsecured banks which were a bit of a climb in places. There are no basics in the kitchen so you do need to take everything with you including salt and pepper and dishwasher tabs. We went for a dog walking/pub weekend. The beach is totally dog friendly once you get down there but not a lot else! There’s a pub in the village which doesn’t open in the day during the week and isn’t really that great to be honest. We walked to the next village along to discover it’s a ‘dry’ village and no pub! Plenty of camp sites and caravan parks etc but no obvious amenities. No chippy or pub or ice cream van even. The Italian restaurant is average and not cheap and at a mile away you have to be prepared to have a long walk or drive. We got a taxi as my Husband has a bad back and had to pay a call out charge. They ask you to hoover dog hairs before leaving but we couldn’t find a hoover. All that being said this is a perfect place for the right vacation. Kid friendly and lots you can drive to to see and do."

"Although this lodge is conveniently located and is well equipped the cleanliness of it is not up to par. My grandson loves playing on the floor and his clothes were dirty within minutes. The rug was full of dog hair. We have dogs but they don't moult so know it was not their hair. My daughter in law found the hoover and mop etc and we cleaned it ourselves. The kettle broke but was replaced the same day so brownie points for that. The only worry with that was that the plug melted in the socket and we were surprised that this did not fuse the electrics. We have stayed at two cottages before that were not in this price bracket but cheaper. They were cleaner, the welcome package ie tea milk etc were better and felt cared for. Hamilton Lodge we thought would be an absolute delight being more expensive. Unfortunately this was not the case, there are maintenance issues which need addressing ie carpets are filthy in bedrooms. No mirror in one of the ground floor bedrooms. Dirt under all the furniture and corners in most rooms. The floors in lounge area are rippling, wonder if they have been wet at some stage. Shame our stay was spoilt by general cleanliness but if they want top rates the owner needs to up their standards."

"Stayed at Shire Cottage for a week's holiday with 90yr old parent. Tasty scones provided on arrival with tea/coffee. Lovely stable conversion, clean, warm & cosy, all mod cons (easy to use) inside & suitable for persons with mobility issues especially the wet room with disability aids provided if required. Very comfy beds! Friendly owners with dogs, horses & pet sheep, quiet rural setting with easy access to surrounding villages & towns, coastline & tourist attractions. Visit 158 Squadron (bomber command) memorial in Lissett, very poignant.Owners have ongoing plans for work at premises & when completed there will be additional facilities on site, farm shop, etc. Finishing touches such as hanging baskets, screens to external gas bottles will also make a difference. Nearest shop & Post Office is Skipsea 1&half miles away so bring your supplies. We enjoyed our stay and would return to Shire Cottage in the future."
