Staying in East Sussex

If you like your movie trivia (or just like spectacular English views), get down to the Seven Sisters Cliffs across the River Cuckmere to see the coastguard cottages used in Joe Wright’s 2007 film ‘Atonement’ and the dazzling white, chalk cliffs in the background. If you want some history - East Sussex is the place to be. Check out Battle, the appropriately named town where William the Conqueror first engaged the Saxons in 1066, or take a walk down the medieval streets of Rye.

"The cottage was a much better base than using a hotel which was our initial option. The cottage was very pleasant, comfortable and well equipped. The bed was very comfortable and a great nights sleep every night. Plenty of space in the cottage to spend time there, again much more useful than a hotel room. Obviously having parking right outside the cottage was helpful. Driving to and from the cottage was easy and there were plenty of tourist sights within a half hour drive, so a great base for exploring the Battle of Hastings area. Ian the owner was always very helpful and friendly and we would see him often, he was always full of ideas and advice for the area. The weather was quite good for our stay which obviously added to the enjoyment of the holiday. As a couple in our mid 40's looking for a relaxing and peaceful place and also somewhere relatively close to tourist sights we were very happy with the property and would recommend it"

"While the weather during our stay at S60748 was disappointing, the cottage itself was wonderful. The open-plan kitchen/living room is large and comfortable, and the bedroom is lovely and relaxing too - it's a long time since I've slept as soundly as I did there! There's a nice, private, outside area where you could eat if it was nice, but as I said, the weather wasn't especially kind to us. Thankfully, the radiators kept us nice and toasty! Location-wise, you're really close to Pevensey Castle, Bexhill-on-Sea, Battle and Hastings - all worth a visit. Brighton's a bit further afield, but it's perfectly practical to have a day-trip there if you don't mind driving. If I'm ever taking a holiday in the area in future, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at S60748 again."

"I had stayed there with my girlfriend for valentine's day, the weather was terrible at the time, but to summarise the experience:- extremely good attention to detail in terms of hospitality, I felt welcomed into the place I was staying at rather than a hotel.- as advertised, enough kindling and logs for a fire.- welcoming hamper was full of well-thought-out items.- spotlessly clean. The only downside was that we had to get a taxi on the Sunday, but the nearest Village (10 minutes walk down the road) was willing to call us a cab."

"Very nice terrace cottage located within a fairly new build estate. Although camber itself has very little to offer other than beautiful sand dunes and beach. Rye is a very charming town few minutes down the road with antique shops and friendly tea rooms. Hastings a little further is a lovely day out and lots for the kids to do. The cottage contact number given was incorrect. I suggest you update this as we had to make contact as we couldn't locate the sofa bed bedding. Also the house alarm was not active."

"We had a fabulous stay at S82902, Pett and were all sad to leave at the end of the week. It's a fantastic cottage, beautifully decorated inside with all you could need while on holiday. The garden was a great bonus too and the children enjoyed the trampoline. Some simple "how to use" guides for the cooker, microwave, shower, dishwasher etc would be useful, but otherwise everything was perfect and we hope to be able to visit again one day. A highly recommended accommodation in a beautiful part of the country."
