Staying in East Sussex

If you like your movie trivia (or just like spectacular English views), get down to the Seven Sisters Cliffs across the River Cuckmere to see the coastguard cottages used in Joe Wright’s 2007 film ‘Atonement’ and the dazzling white, chalk cliffs in the background. If you want some history - East Sussex is the place to be. Check out Battle, the appropriately named town where William the Conqueror first engaged the Saxons in 1066, or take a walk down the medieval streets of Rye.

"The barn was clean and tidy however we found it to be extremely cold. Having never used a log burning stove before we ran out of fire lighters on the 1st morning and the heating unit did not work. After speaking to the housekeeper (a number of hours after we tried to make contact) we were told where we could find more firelighters (not sure why we were only left with half a packet to use in the first place). They were outside in the cleaners storage barn however by this time we had just been using the bedroom that evening. The log burner was nice however it did not warm the entire barn and the heating did not work at all. When asked how to use the heating/air con unit the housekeep was unable to tell us so we were left cold. We were both actually quite disappointed. When speaking to the housekeeper she seemed shocked we had used the half pack of firelighters, I would suggest providing instructions of how many you would assume we needed to use and possibly instructions on how to get the heating unit to work. Lovely barn but we were glad to get back home. Not good value for money at all."

"A stunning cottage with unique semi-attached heavenly master suite. Owned by a garden designer, everything is beautifully done. Best equipped rental we've ever had as well as the most generous and thoughtful welcome pack. Situated perfectly, albeit down a very rural country lane, for everything East Sussex has to offer - we visited the tennis at Eastbourne, among other attractions such as Firle Park and Chartwell. Village of Ripe just idyllic and the village shop is a wonderful resource with very friendly locals!"
