"We didn't know quite what to expect, but were very pleasantly surprised with the lodge itself. It had all we needed and more, including a record player! haven't used one of them in years! The lodge is one open living area, but with the bedroom part effectively separated from the kitchen/lounge by the bathroom. The bed was really comfortable, the kitchen had all we needed and the lounge had a tv with sky+ (and of course the record player). Quite a lot of the walls were covered with raw wood panels, looked really effective and a rather quirky wooden chair in the bedroom. There is a small private piece of "garden" off to the side of the lodge (to the side of the summer house), with patio table and chairs, and a lay-z-spa hot tub for your use (small extra cost). The lodge is sited between stables and the owners thatched house, the end of which is let out as Longhouse cottage. The lodge overlooks a paddock used by the six Alpacas, although they seemed to spend most of their time in another field beyond the house, they did come up at feeding time (opposite the lodge). The whole site is down the end of a rough road/track so is very secluded and peaceful. The owners were a really nice couple and very friendly. The location is good for access to East Dorset, Poole and Bournemouth, as well as the New Forest, just about 5 miles to the main A31. Roads can be quite busy at peak times of day, so I'd recommend planning that in. There are some nice quiet roads away from the main ones if you like to take the "scenic" routes. We ate out a few times locally; Drusillas Inn, Horton was OK. We ate twice at The Old Inn, Holt, first time (Steak night - Monday) was good, second time, while the food was good service was sloooooow. In short the lodge is a really nice quirky relaxing place. On our list to re-visit another time, thoroughly recommend."

"Fabulous lodge, very peaceful, hot tub was blissful, log burner amazing though it got so hot one night we slept (in October) with the bedroom doors and windows wide open, it feels very safe as so far out of the way.The only thing I would say is missing, and they are minor, is salt and pepper in the lodge, we brought some amazing steaks, I don’t usually cook on holiday but did these, some basic condiments to compliment would have been useful.I would also say there is nowhere to put wet and muddy boots and coats, we really struggled to dry out one of my sons welly boots because they are lined and somewhere to put wet and muddy boots would have been great especially as both my sons got soaked when jumping in muddy puddles (as in up to their waist), the washing machine was well used. This is a peaceful holiday with no WiFi or phone signal, it was amazing to be off grid but not far (2 miles) to the local town and shops so not isolated, I checked my emails once a day and it has been a very long time since I could say that. There are no real extras but the staff are very friendly and helpful, shop well priced and items produced at the farm. This is a working farm and so looks like it when you arrive but up at the Lodges it is pure peace and quiet."

"The cottage was lovely, but, because we were there for 2 weeks, I didn't really feel it was set up for a long stay....there were no chest of drawers at all, so we lived out of bags as there was no where apart from a wardrobe to put clothes. Its dog friendly, and we took our 2, but in order to keep the place clean, i.e. muddy floors, we had to go to the pub and ask for a mop and bucket and a hoover. There was no clean towels or bed linen to be able to change during our stay, but was told after a week in, that, yet again, if we went to the pub, they would give us some. At no point were we asked if everything was ok. Internet was intermittent, but after several visits, to, yes, the pub, it was resolved.Sofa in the living room was uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time.Great for a short weekend stay, not ideally equipped for any longer."

"Wonderful Cottage in a Wonderful Location. Out of the cottage door in the pub door! The pub staff were so helpful, they would let us freeze our ice packs & gave us ice cubes as the fridge in the cottage hasn’t a freezer compartment. The sofa pull-out bed is not long or wide enough for an adult to sleep on, okay for a small child. The cottage is ideal for two adults & a small child. Ideal for your dog, lovely large exercise area. All dog friendly. Our son is in a W/Chair the entrance is accessible. Cottage has a downstairs bathroom. Just need a better sofa bed. We had a Fabulous stay at the Cottage. Thank you."

"This was our second visit to Sandy Balls, the site is still very good, although the facilities seem too small for the amount of residents now. The Woodside bar was full every night, with no spare tables or chairs when attending the kids entertainment. The swimming pool now has sessions that have to be booked and with a booking fee! Location is still very good for trips out though. The site needs newer and larger facilities in my opinion like the new restaurant which was nice and the food was good. Happy with the lodge we booked despite it not being ready at the 4pm check in time."
