"The spacious accommodation is in a good location in an attractive village with two local bars, local spar and opportunity for walking and cycling from the doorstep. You can’t park outside but there are plenty of spaces in Church Street almost across the road which is fine. It’s listed as two star but even so, falls below standard in many areas. On our arrival outside, we were not initially impressed because the refuse bins were overflowing, the garden furniture was unusable and dangerous, pathways overgrown with weeds and rotting front windowsill. In the kitchen, the floors were discoloured, two cooker rings not working, no grill pan, frying pan with no handle (and no Teflon), slugs appeared in the evening, mouldy wall next to window, dirty/mouldy fridge seal, back door security almost non-existent, and water pooling in the utility room when it rained heavy.Around the house some of the fixtures and fittings needed repair such as curtains hanging off in the back twin room, curtain rail sagging in the lounge, radiator cover falling apart in lounge and severely loose floorboards on the landing. There was wall mould in the back twin room and bare plaster patch next to the front door. Décor and furniture tired. In one en-suite, the basin hot tap and shower did not work. This left us with one shower for the group in one of the en-suites. This shower tray had mouldy seals and the water very slow to drain. We reported the faulty shower immediately(1st September) but I note that nearly three weeks later it was reported as still not working in another review. We complained via the agents about the standard of the property but didn’t receive an apology from the owner who attributed the issues to the building being old. I am suspicious of other high scoring reviews."

"We were very disappointed with our stay in this cottage. It was nothing like we were expecting. It was cold, dark and damp and just did not have a welcoming feel to it at all. We were also not impressed, after having paid the full amount, to receive, two weeks before we went, a 13 page handbook on what we could and couldn't do in the cottage and asking us to acknowledge that we had read it. Had this arrived before we paid the final amount, we would have cancelled the booking. In all the cottages we have stayed at over the years, we have never been asked to follow something so rigid. It was supposed to be a pet friendly cottage, but our dog wasn't allowed upstairs and not allowed on the sofas. I was therefore, in view of all these instructions, expecting to see an immaculate cottage with plush carpets and furnishings, hence not allowing the dogs to go anywhere. However, in reality, it had slate tiles on the floor in the kitchen and everywhere else, apart from one bedroom were bare painted floorboards. For the money we paid, it was very disappointing. In addition, we were also expected to discard all our recyclable waste in the recycling centre down in the village, which was 1.5 miles away. I don't think this is acceptable to have to put dirty boxes in your car to dispose of waste. In addition, a lot of emphasis was put on the fact that electricity is expensive and therefore do not use it too often. This cottage has thick stone walls, slate floors and floorboards, it feels so cold all the time. Therefore, if that's the case, why equip the cottage with expensive electric heaters, why not put Economy 7 storage heaters throughout the entire house."

"Whilst Eirianfa was a great location and good pubs nearby we had a number of disappointments. We overlooked the fact that there was no Wifi or towels (neither of which was mentioned on the website, but it should have been much clearer on these points) so we had to make the 30 minute journey to Asda to buy towels, and go up to the local pub for Wifi. Much of the furniture was in disrepair, with wardrobes and tables falling apart, so many light bulbs not working, not enough forks for 10 people - it looked like everything was patchworked together. One of the slats on the top bunk bed was broken so one child had to sleep on a mattress on the floor. Also one of our children had a mild electric shock from the plug socket in the lounge, as the switch was broken. We were also informed on our journey there that one shower was not working, so this meant just one shower and one bath was available for 10 people - not very convenient! And the broken shower/toilet started leaking through the ceiling to the lounge. Upon speaking about this to the locals they said the leaky/broken shower had been like that for a long time, as other guests had complained about it so it was very disappointing that this had not been fixed in time for our stay. Unfortunately it seems that Eirianfa does not have a good reputation as a holiday letting in the village.. It was however a low cost in the October half term..."

"Arriving to the area the scenery was amazing. Got to the cottage and the accommodation was more beautiful than the photos online. With the stream running behind the cottage and all the period features of this property we were all so happy. A great location to get to lots of local amenities and things to do. Zipworld just 5 miles up the road .... brilliant day out with the kids. Also a great challenge for the adults.!!! The local pub has just changed hands but they were very friendly and the food was amazing. A very relaxing holiday that we all needed. The kids loved the stream out the back... but a good idea to keep an eye on them. We used the open fire a couple of nights. Not because we were cold but it was a luxury having an open fire. The kitchen had everything you could ask for we did not need to bring anything with us apart from food for fridge. No washing machine but that was ok as we could hand wash a few things. Would of been nice to have a laundry rack.... but we made a make shift washing line out of some rope we found in the out house. Good for sunny days. Best holiday we have had in along time. Thanks for everything."

"My friend and I booked this Cottage for two weeks, we arrived to discover no hot water. The mattresses on the bed were stained, old and not suitable for anyone suffering from back problems. I contacted the owner straight away re: No hot water and was informed that the shower had hot water!! He sent a Plumber out that day, still did not fix the issue. We boiled kettles for 4 days to wash up. We chose this cottage last minute because it had a bath. Having medical conditions a bath was a necessary requirement. Also, it is a basic requirement to supply hot water. The immersion heater light would not come on, a plumber came in the evening we arrived, failed to resolve the issue. An electrician was called in 4 days later to provide hot water, still not enough to have a bath... My husband joined us for the weekend, who is a reputable qualified Plumber and Heating Engineer. The Water tank is too small to supply a decent amount of hot water for a bath!! There were other small niggles."
