"A very charming little cottage, with parking and a garden. Sampford Courtenay is ideally situated for exploring. The downside to the cottage is that it is on a crossroads and the traffic noise is incessant night and day. We appreciate it's hay making time but numerous lorries and tankers pass through there. Sadly that would stop us returning. The ground floor living area is lovely and provides everything you need. However there were two problems upstairs. In the smaller bedroom the mattress needs replacing, it had a huge dip in the middle, which was aggravated by the sloping floorboards, we tried turning it over but it was still the same, so did not provide support or a comfortable nights sleep. In the main bedroom the floorboards slope in all sorts of directions but the biggest problem is that there is a step up in the middle of the room which is fine during the day but when dark is easy to forget, and my husband tripped over it but luckily wasn't injured. Other guests have mentioned it and a danger tape has been stuck on it but as previously suggested, if the floor was levelled with a step at the door to the bedroom the problem would be resolved."

"Would have to note that compared to the amount of interaction I had with Helpful Holidays say five years ago I do not get the same nowadays. All seems to be automated and via the internet which I feel is a little bit of a pity. Having said that service seems to be efficient. It will be interesting to see how things progress now you are becoming Sykes, which by the way was not made clear when my holiday money was taken, and I did have a moment of panic wondering who 'Sykes' was when it showed up on my bank statement! The following can be published if wanted: Very enjoyable holiday as always. Belstone is a wonderful centre for walking over Dartmoor with lots of other attractions nearby as well. The local pub The Tors is now under new management and is definitely improved with a very warm welcome and there is now a tearoom which opens part time. Lopes cottage was delightful - such a pity it is now no longer available through you. The village has lots going on as well and the locals are always so welcoming."

"Absolutely lovely cottage. Extremely well equiped and very clean. Lovely welcome pack of scones, cream, jam, bread, butter, milk, plus doggy treats, for which we were all very grateful. Pippa went out of her way to welcome us and our dogs and nothing seemed too much for her.The bed was very comfortable and the wool duvet and pillows were a treat, as was the lovely crisp cotton bedding. There is a lovely fenced off area at the back, which was safe for our dogs but they weren't too keen on walking the gravel. The cottage is set in a very rural area with fields all around.....with lots of sheep in, which unfortunately didn't suit our dogs as they just wanted to bark at the sheep. They are used to cows in the fields near our home and we weren't sure what they would be like around sheep, but this didn't spoil our stay as we used the cottage as a base and drove to the coast each day.Thank you so much to Pippa for a lovely stay."

"Fantastic cottage in great location. Easy to explore Dartmoor and the north and south coastlines of Devon. Cottage is extremely dog friendly and is very well equipped throughout. Lots of basic storecupboard food items makes self catering very easy to do. The welcome basket of complementary scones, jam, bread, cream, butter and milk was amazing and went down a treat after a long drive. Such a wonderful cottage to return to each day after plenty of walking and exploring with our dogs. Pippa is a great host. We left our dog leads behind by mistake.....she called us and very kindly posted them home to us the same day! I am absolutely certain that we will be returning again soon and would whole heartedly recommend Happy Cottage to anyone looking for a relaxing break cuddled up in front of the fire and/or active outdoor adventuring. Just book it! You won't be disappointed!"
