"The village of Longnor is lovely and a good location for a holiday in the Peak District. In terms of the cottage itself, this would be a much nicer holiday cottage than it is if it was maintained better and brought up to date. It smells damp, especially in the kitchen, and we found slug trails across the rug in the lounge. The kitchen itself is very difficult to prepare meals in; there is very little worktop space, it is extremely dark (light required to be on at all times) and there are no cupboards - all the equipment is stored on open shelving, some of which is located behind the oven and is not easily or safely accessible, especially when the oven is on. The oven itself is extremely old; the door is broken and the temperature dials have fallen off. It needs replacing as it is not safe cooking meals when trying to guess at the correct temperature. Washing up is difficult as there is no draining board - the draining rack is in the sink so if you tip the dirty water away before you have dried up, it will go all over the clean items. We could not get the heating to work as the controls were not accessible due to broken covers on all but one of the heaters, so we found the cottage very cold. The portable radiator upstairs was broken. The bed linen was old and stained, and had some sort of limescale-like dirt all over it. Overall, we could not recommend this as a good cottage to choose if you want a relaxing holiday. We were surprised and disappointed in view of the previous positive reviews."

"This is a gem of a property, either for familys or group holidays (we were the latter). We arrived to find the property spotlessly clean and very spacious. We loved the ruralness of the location, it provided us plenty of walks and cycling. Just a short walk to the local pub which had lovely homecooked food.We couldn't really find fault with this property and appreciate the constraints of its location and property style with that in mind cannot rate low against it. However, if at all possible suggest the only 2 items where improvements (if possible) be made are; 1) Showers - 3 in the property, which is great for a large party, howevever we all used the one in the basement due to the lack of pressure to the other 22) Pillows. Some beds had 2, some only had 1 and they were very flat. Overall this property was brilliant, we all had a fantastic time throughout our stay and would definatley return."

"We enjoyed our stay at S16020, but it was lacking just a bit of care and attention. The kitchen wasn't properly clean, there was a leaky tap and the dishwasher didn't wash the utensils properly. The blinds in the lounge were broken and the en-suite shower didn't work. It was still a nice property, as long as you don't mind having no phone reception and no internet. The walks were absolutely lovely and it was nice having the trains and boats going past. Unfortunately we had to attend A and E as my daughter fell down the stairs (which was her fault and nothing to do with the stairs) and the information for the local hospital was wrong and out of date. The phone book was from 2009/10 so was out of date aswell. Obviously it isn't going to happen very often but if you do need to use the A&E you need up to date information."

"Steps up to the mill would be improved with a hand rail on both sides to accommodate less agile visitors, also the main door step is very high and older people in our party struggled to enter & exit. The en suite shower did not work at all, this was disappointing, as the review have indicated this situation for several other visits pervious too ours. The games room is not pleasant to be in as there is a constant damp smell, it does have the potential to be an excellent useful room. The overall décor was good, the couches have seen better days and could do with some extra padding in the seats also the cushion covers are a little shabby. The kitchen well equipped and clean. Some of the beds for our party were too low The holiday was excellent the location, peacefulness & tranquillity perfect."

"While a truly beautiful location especially great as a group, the cottage itself is looking tired. The ground floor is damp, the water pressure is so bad that only the main shower works (providing someone isn't drawing water elsewhere), the shower in the en-suite does not work at all, the tap at the kitchen sink leaks along the worktop even when turned off, a significant number of the light bulbs had gone throughout, there are water stains in the lounge ceiling (around the lights alarmingly), the bed in the master bedroom quite literally has springs protruding, cushions were ripped on the sofas, and there was a lack of real basics - no cleaning cloths or kitchen sponges for example. For a property in this price band we have stayed in far, far better, a shame given its location."
