"I wanted self-catering accommodation for a week's stay in the NW Highlands focussed on hill-walking. I was with a mate so we wanted two bedrooms. S56439is quite spacious, much better than the outside headline photo of the cottage suggests (the additional photos of the interior of the cottage give a much more realistic idea of the space). My bedroom was a good size with a very large and comfortable (not too soft) double bed. The location as a whole is very quiet, great for sleep! Poolewe has a small but handy Mace village shop/post office, a nice cafe plus the Poolewe hotel/pub which has good pub food served until 9:00 pm and was popular. There are bigger grocery shops in Gairloch, about 5 miles away. The area has spectacular beauty with access to a range of great hills, notably the Torridon hills, roughly a 45-minute drive away. The cottage is excellently presented and all devices worked well: kitchen appliances, washing machine, TV etc. the cottage was very clean, neat and tidy and well-maintained. There is excellent parking adjacent to the cottage in a large shared parking strip - plenty of room. The cottage has a small but nice back garden although we didn't really use that. Interior decor seemed good, as far as I noticed, with a kind of upmarket beachcomber theme, blended with some more traditional antlers dotted here and there (well, it is the Highlands). I tried to think of something the owner could do to improve the cottage but couldn't come up with anything which is perhaps the best compliment I can give."

"We stayed at Riverview over the New Year as we are checking out areas with a view to moving to Scotland and wanted to see this area in the winter. We were so impressed it's now our first choice as Gairloch/Poolewe have everything we could ask for. Stunning scenery, beautiful beaches, enough amenities and a proper community feel. The cottage itself was absolutely perfect for what we wanted, especially as we have 3 dogs and were able to bring them with us. This is quite simply the best equipped cottage we have ever stayed at. We can't come up with anything the owners haven't already thought of. It's like a tardis, moderate from the outside and huge inside, with all mod cons but still a very cosy feel to it. We were greeted on arrival with fresh flowers, wine and chocolates all of which were greatly appreciated after a 12 hour drive. If you can visit out of the main season this is a real bargain and we would recommend it to anyone, but if you have young children beware the river is literally across the road. We would stay here again and have recommended it to friends and family."

"Fabulous cottage in a beautiful location. Will definitely return to Applecross area without a doubt. However, certain parts of the cottage could do with a deep clean e.g. the fridge, cooker and living room carpet. As we rented in winter and the water supply comes from the loch, we were told on the day we arrived that the pipes would freeze in cold weather and we could be without water. We had a 4 month old baby with us and although this wouldn't have stopped me coming, had I been informed beforehand I would have ensured I took bottled water to make baby formula if the water did stop. The upstairs bathroom wasn't working also because of the frozen pipes and so 4 adults had to share one bathroom and due to the loch filled tank, you must leave 15mins between each shower. This wouldn't have stopped me going here, but would have been nice information to have before hand."

"Fabulous location and fabulous views from all windows. Great to while away the time just sitting watching the effects of the changes in weather. We loved the remoteness of this cottage, which was very comfortable, well equipped and spotlessly clean, for me, my partner, 80year old mom and dog Jack. Enclosed garden to allow Jack to wander freely without us worrying. Lovely walks from the cottage ( not for mom ) and nearby. Nearest shop / cafe approximately 6 miles away stocked with basics, very friendly and welcoming. Due to time of year, not a lot open around, but this didn't worry us as was expected. Deer in the wildlife centre in Torridon was a treat, along with lots of wild sightings. Sea eagle and seals seen on travels around.A welcome basket of goodies on arrival was a lovely surprise and very unexpected. We look forward to returning."

"We were 3 older ladies revisiting walking and climbing places of our youth. Location was quite stunning, particularly as we had a week of - yes- heat and total sunshine. Sunsets over the mountains were exquisite! The house seemed roomier than expected from the description, and was very well equipped and all facilities were excellent. We stocked up in the Inverness Tescos before arriving, and bought fresh fish etc in Sheildaig and Gairloch. We would have appreciated a garden table and some chairs, as we weren't off all day climbing. The house owner did provide some chairs on request. Getting up the drive and opening the heavy gates was a good exercise, and using passing places was fun once we got used to them! I would now like to make another visit, perhaps with family and grandchildren."
