"Went July 2015. New property and in keeping with local buildings. Was great for different family groups meeting up. We all got together for a meal in 1 of other 3 bed apartments.(took our own plates cups etc) This one had everything we needed for weekend. outside stone steps led directly to the first floor studio .lovely barn style door which you could leave top open. Steps no problem for us but not if you have mobility problems. (There are ground floor ones) windows look out onto road but nice enough view not noisy. Great location near middle of town and behind a pub (could go through pub to property behind.) public car park directly behind we always got a place small charge on ticket machine. simple and clean and very pleasant studio with bedroom area divided by open plan wardrobe (open bedroom side)which gives a little privacy from living are.. Think we were the first to book. No problems booking. Received email with local contact number. Someone returned my call to give directions and where to get the keys.(from the pub) nice greeting on arrival and was shown where to go. Fresh flowers in vase was a lovely touch. Washing up liquid n cleaning stuff cloth sponge t. Towel etc was provided. Nice sized room with sofa and table and chairs.lovely bed/bedding etc. good bathroom my only tiny gripe was there was no hook to hang towel or clothes (back of door) and no lock on door. A shelf to put toiletry bag would have been helpful but minor points.missed a big mirror. (Attending family party, a must for the ladies) they may well have been added by now. Really enjoyed the stay and all the rest of the group were impressed by the accommodation. Would definitely reccomend a stay. We hope to all go back and meet up with everyone again. a little more pricey than bed and breakfast prices but good for freedom space and for us, get togethers."

"This was a first visit to the county of Durham, and this cottage proved to be perfect to meet our needsThe ground floor of the property is spacious with plenty of room to cater for a couple or a small sized family. The living and dining area is comfortably furnished, with a wrap-round settee doubling as an additional bed. The kitchen area has a full sized hob and oven. There is a reasonably sized fridge and a freezer, as well as a slimline dishwasher and washing machine. There was adequate crockery although not enough to justify the daily use of the dishwasher. Upstairs there was a mezzanine level with a very comfortable double bed. There was ample storage for clothes and luggage. The shower room was very efficient although care had to be exercised about running the shower for too long. The wi-fi was very effective. Externally, there is a small, decked area with a picnic bench, overlooking the rolling Durham countryside. There is so much to see in this part of the country – we especially enjoyed cycling on the local disused railway line. There are ample National Trust properties within an hour’s drive – Cragside, Wallington and Gibside to name but three. Beamish North of England Museum is close, and it is an easy drive to the Durham heritage coastline.I would like to thank the owners for helping to make our holiday such a memorable one. They have made their holiday accommodation comfortable and easily managed and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone visiting this interesting area."

"The owners of S14783 are two of the nicest people I've ever met. Nothing was too much trouble. The welcome scones were lovely too.The apartment is above the owners house and a perfect size for two, with a spacious lounge/kitchen/diner and a decent size bedroom. The bathroom has a bath which was nice after long walks, and a shower above the bath. The furnishings are a bit dated but that didn't bother us at all. The place was very clean apart from a few animal hairs my wife found on the carpet so I presume dogs are allowed. The local area has loads to do, on sunny or rainy days. The walks from Barnard Castle were lovely, and we spent over four hours in the Bowes Museum. Sadly there is nothing in the village in the way of pubs or shops, you have to drive to Barnard Castle but there are plenty of everything there. S14783 was a great place to stay and very reasonably priced. I recommend it."

"An excellent place to stay, really modern, well presented and smart and in very pleasant surroundings but there are a few minor things that could be easily addressed, particularly for those that stay there while working rather than on holiday:1. Kitchen equipment needs a few basic additions including a colander, sieve, decent grater and a couple of decent extra kitchen knives (plus sharpener);2. There should be at least one rack to dry clothes on. There were none during my stay.3. The bed is very uncomfortable and the duvet inadequate for anything but mid summer4. A fenced area so that those who bring dogs can let them outside unsupervised would be useful, especially since the owners allow people to bring dogs."

"Great apartment located right in the heart of the of Barnard Castle which has many pubs, takeaways and local shops. The apartment was light and airy although it is a studio it didn't feel small. It has underfloor heating which we didn't need to use. With regard to a previous review there is now an over-door clothes hanger and shelf for toiletries in the bathroom. The hosts left us bread, butter, milk, bourbon biscuits and washing up liquid so we could have a cup of tea on arrival. And with Morrisons only a short walk away we were easily able to stock up on other supplies. High and Low force are only a short drive away as is the National Rail Museum at Shildon which is worth a half day visit (as entry is free)."
