"Went July 2015. New property and in keeping with local buildings. Was great for different family groups meeting up. We all got together for a meal in 1 of other 3 bed apartments.(took our own plates cups etc) This one had everything we needed for weekend. outside stone steps led directly to the first floor studio .lovely barn style door which you could leave top open. Steps no problem for us but not if you have mobility problems. (There are ground floor ones) windows look out onto road but nice enough view not noisy. Great location near middle of town and behind a pub (could go through pub to property behind.) public car park directly behind we always got a place small charge on ticket machine. simple and clean and very pleasant studio with bedroom area divided by open plan wardrobe (open bedroom side)which gives a little privacy from living are.. Think we were the first to book. No problems booking. Received email with local contact number. Someone returned my call to give directions and where to get the keys.(from the pub) nice greeting on arrival and was shown where to go. Fresh flowers in vase was a lovely touch. Washing up liquid n cleaning stuff cloth sponge t. Towel etc was provided. Nice sized room with sofa and table and chairs.lovely bed/bedding etc. good bathroom my only tiny gripe was there was no hook to hang towel or clothes (back of door) and no lock on door. A shelf to put toiletry bag would have been helpful but minor points.missed a big mirror. (Attending family party, a must for the ladies) they may well have been added by now. Really enjoyed the stay and all the rest of the group were impressed by the accommodation. Would definitely reccomend a stay. We hope to all go back and meet up with everyone again. a little more pricey than bed and breakfast prices but good for freedom space and for us, get togethers."

"This is a beautifully fitted and furnished terraced cottage on the edge of the North Pennines. The complimentary bottle of wine was a particularly nice touch. I think this property is used by its owners some of the time, so the standard of the property reflects this, and rented out at other times. My only concern was the directions to find it, which were quite long and complicated but did not actually help; I had to ask local people for directions. All it needed was 'Follow signs to Evenwood from neighbouring trunk roads, the A68 or A688. If you arrive from the east (from the direction of Bishop Auckland) turn right at the T-junction beside the village green, then left almost immediately onto a cinder track along the edge of the green. The property is part of the terrace facing the green at ts far end, near its corner.', with corresponding instructions for people arriving from other directions."

"Had a wonderful, relaxing and peaceful holiday. I rate this on the excellent side of good and would recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet relaxing break. There is good walking all around the area. The village shops provide all you need for wholesome foods. And the village bookshop run by volunteers has a wide range of second hand books. The Tees Valley offers great scenery whatever the season. We had 3ofthe4 in a week! Nearby Barnard Castle has something for everyone. The renovated Witham Hall provides for awide range of cultural tastes . There is a number of castle ruins worth a visit. If the cottage lacked anything it was miniscule. Perhaps a tray for alfresco dining? If relaxation and peace are high on your list then S14773 fits the bill."

"Very clean lovely cottage. Perfect location - very quiet and just off the main street but no noise from the street. Very well equipped cottage. The village although small had lots to offer and had 2 hotels both serving food. One served traditional food and the other had a French restaurant. Also a very good chip shop a few doors down with a quality butchers along the street. Downside, neighbours is an old graveyard so no problem there. Definitely not a sleep 4, only suitable for 2 adults and a dog. Garden at the front is not dog friendly and definitely not "enclosed" as described - had a 6 foot drop all around and needs serious attention to make this safe. Locals within the village were lovely and very welcoming."

"Great apartment located right in the heart of the of Barnard Castle which has many pubs, takeaways and local shops. The apartment was light and airy although it is a studio it didn't feel small. It has underfloor heating which we didn't need to use. With regard to a previous review there is now an over-door clothes hanger and shelf for toiletries in the bathroom. The hosts left us bread, butter, milk, bourbon biscuits and washing up liquid so we could have a cup of tea on arrival. And with Morrisons only a short walk away we were easily able to stock up on other supplies. High and Low force are only a short drive away as is the National Rail Museum at Shildon which is worth a half day visit (as entry is free)."
