"Witchnest Cottage was an extremely comfortable stay; so peaceful and quiet! The cottage is very original with its own unique 'knick-naks' which has given the cottage character. The kitchen is big and has all you need; a home from home. The bathroom is small but functional, it is a cottage remember. The master bedroom is very big and with the heavy blackout curtains drawn, the room is in total pitch black. Seriously pitch black. Because of this and the peacefulness from outside, you sleep like a bear in hibernation. The bed is soft but comfortable. The living room is cosy with lots of knick-naks about, which gives the cottage character, but at times if felt 'too much' as I feared I could break something, my wife however loved it! The room has all you need: TV, Blu-Ray player, CD/Tape/Radio player, books and local guides. The cottage has an open fire, but due to very warm weather, we didn't use it.The cottage has gas central heating and was warm. The garden outside was nice, but not 100% private; you can hear the stream which is relaxing. The cottage is beside a guided walk path, so will see people pass the cottage, so don't be alarmed. There is a car park outside the property which can hold two or three cars. Broadband was excellent for the location: 45-50Mb down, 10Mb up.Mobile coverage for O2 customers was excellent, strong 4G signal throughout the area."

"More attention to detail is needed when cleaning, particularly in the storage area in loft bedroom and the loft bathroom. Bed linen has seen better days. Some kitchen utensils sticky and baking trays definitely seen better days. Table mats sticky and dirty. The grass needed cutting which made it unpleasant to sit in the garden. No welcome pack so beware if you are arriving late. Stairs are very steep and there is no toilet on ground floor. Steps into front door very steep although it is easier to go in the back door. Designated car parking space was apparently repaired on our last day however there is still a dip on driving into it and there are lots of pot holes. You either have to reverse in or out and along a long narrow road. You cannot see the car from the cottage. There is parking on the road however which is a safer bet.Good information packs available about surrounding areas with places to visit, walks, etc.Good base to visit this beautiful part of the country if the cleaning issues are dealt with, in a lovely little village with lots of local amenities and lovely walks."

"My family and I had a lovely time wandering around the peaks next to Ellers bank cottage. The cottage was very well equipped and we had a very nice fire in the wood burner on the last day as the weather became cooler. (we brought our own logs and kindling with us to continue the fire as there is a starter set only) We took our dog, a small Springer, with us. I made sure she was always cleaned off before she entered the living room after having been out. There were a lot of steep stairs so I would not recommend anyone to stay in this cottage if they have issues with mobility. Also in the small garden area, it is a tiny yard which is accessible to other households and there are steps leading up to a small grass area with a table. All in all, we had a few wonderful days staying at this cottage, it was quirky and just in the right place for many walks to the peaks, only a few minutes walk to the town of hayfield, pubs and local shops to buy provisions from."

"Would have liked warning about entrance to property; very narrow and bumpy track. Disappointed with cleanliness of property; dirty floors (dropped water in kitchen on arrival and when we cleaned it up the cloth was filthy), toilet brush holders were with filled with dirty water and downstairs plug was very grotty. On a positive note, we had a lovely week there with 4 adults and 2 dogs: easy walk into Wirksworth - with a nice pub (Hope & Anchor), superb chip shop, lovely butchers, coffee shops and supermarket/petrol station - so amenities handy. We were in just right spot to explore canal boat trip (Birdswood), Carsington Water (reservoir), Crich Tram Village, Ecclestone Steam train (based in Wirksworth - walking distance from cottage) - all of these were lovely and dog-friendly. Also popped to Bakewell - quaint place. The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped. I would recommend it to people for a peaceful, beautiful place to stay."

"We enjoyed the area and would visit again but not this cottage. We had an issue with the heating oil being smelt in the kitchen & lounge and had to leave the window open the 5 nights we stayed. My husband noticed there’s a leak as there was a pool of oil outside the kitchen window on the floor. Reported to the owner who blamed the wind blowing the wrong way! Also the blinds in the bedroom are inadequate. The light from the outside security light shines straight into the bedroom throughout the night. Mentioned to the owner who suggested we bloke them up, which we were already doing with cushions... not idea as it’s a barn and u can imagine how high one of the windows was. Shame, the decor and surrounding of this cottage is stunning but sadly we wouldn’t return. Also because it’s a small kitchen, but very well stocked I will add with quality crockery, the oven door wouldn’t open fully and I couldn’t adjust the shelves to fit our turkey in!"
