"The cottage was clean & tidy on our arrival. However, the cottage could do with some refurbishment and I for one would be prepared to pay more for that privilege. The bathroom was a huge waste of valuable bedroom space and could be made en-suite very easily. The shower over the bath could disappear and a proper shower cubicle could easily fit in the bathroom. The furniture in all the bedrooms was basic and in need of renewal. Not sure what you could do about it but the stairs to the top floor were difficult and dangerous. There is a need for a downstairs W.C. The property is meant for 7 people so this is not an unreasonable expectation. Lounge was adequate but the kitchen could do with a total refurbishment. The cooker top does its own thing (being electric) and the oven is untameable. I have got used to much better quality accommodation and was disappointed with this cottage. Myself and my family will not be back here until it has been refurbished. I'm sorry if this sounds offensive, - it is not meant to be but I believe that it is better to be honest. A lick of more inviting colour on the outside window and door frames would do much to lift the kerb appeal. The photographs on line flatter the property. Location is good and this would encourage a return stay if/when the property is refurbished. Housekeeping could be more diligent as we found three broken glasses hidden in the utility room - on a window ledge which is below counter height, beneath pile of tea towels. We were lucky not to injure ourselves on these. Fortunately, the beauty of the area was undiminished by the sub standard accomodation."

"Excellent location.... That's we're the good news ends, very tired property which is fine for the price and that can be excused. But.... damp in upstairs on suite, (could smell it not see it) damp in main bathroom. Dado rail's were black with dust, as we're skirting boards, don't think master bedroom had been hoovered between guests as found toenails on bedroom floor, not 100% convinced master bedroom sheets had been changed, there was blood on the sheets on one of the beds in back bedroom. Heading down stairs I had to clean the bath before use, the none slip mat is covered in mould, in living room, dvd doesn't always work, carpet next to skirting boards is black, dog hairs throughout the property (I knew pets were allowed but in previous properties I've stayed in this has never been a problem). In dinning room my 2 year old spilt some milk so moped it up and left a clean line on the floor. Kitchen was actually fine but had to clean the glasses before use. This property is filthy dirty, would not recommend I appreciate its nearing the end of a season and would expect things to be tired but can not forgive being dirty. Nearly left after 1st day, glad I didn't enjoyed windomere and will return but not this property. To be honest can not complain about Cumbrian cottages or owner really as I made an error in not reporting issues immediately so they did not have a chance to rectify any issues and cleaned and muddled through myself, however if this is representative of their properties I will look elsewhere in future."

"Stayed in Threlkheld before so I knew what to expect. There are 2 pubs. The horse and farrier do excellent food and you can take your dogs in. But it’s very popular so you need to call in advance. The accommodation is very basic, but it has everything you need for your stay. There was even complimentary tea, coffee and milk. Along with washing up liquid etc... the owners kindly let us take a second dog but you need to enquire before you book. Our dogs are fairly small so would be different if you had large dogs. The building itself is very old and the floors and walls are uneven. This added to the overall experience and even though on the main through road it was very quiet. My only niggle was that the windows are old and not very draft proof. This was fairly uncomfortable sitting in the living room. We counter acted this by having the log fire on. There are fantastic views of Blencathra from the landing window and some good walks from Threlkeld. Overall, I’d be happy to return here as it is a great base to explore the lakes - but ideally, you do need a car as there are no shops. Keswick being the closest approximately 4 miles away."

"The location is good for Windermere, but Bowness has more attractions. Cleaning appears to be an unknown concept the house was dirty. The tooth brush glass on the sink was dirty with someone else’s tooth paste, gritty surfaces and fridge, cobwebs and dust around ceiling and lights. We moved an arm chair when looking for one of the kids toys and the area under and behind had obviously not been cleaned for a long time. The cooker however had all the settings rubbed off, so the hob you could work out but the oven was difficult to use not knowing what temperature it was at etc. The WiFi hardly works. It must be noted that the staircases in the property are steep, which would need to be considered for young children, elderly etc. The little drive although tight for a big car was a god send as we were there for Easter and there was no street parking available. With a good clean, updated kitchen appliances and a different internet provider this could be an excellent place to stay."

"Place was ok, but it is a little 'tired'. For what you pay, you'd expect that some of it would be going back in to make the place top notch. Kitchen needs replacing, bathroom needs replacing. Would have been nice to have things like some hand soap there when you arrive, kitchen roll, perhaps even some tea and coffee, some basics. There were limited amounts of crockery, ok for 5 people which is what the cottage sleeps, but not enough if you have friends locally who you might want to have around. It's expensive for what you get. Parking could be a little bit of a pain at times, there is no parking at the property so you were reliant on getting a space on the road. Nice village though and the café at the village hall is well worth a visit."
