"Several things did not work very well and the hot water was at a dangerous scalding temperature. The shower was impossible to use and could only be hand held anyway. The furniture, especially the sofas were not comfortable and my wife also found the bed mattress hard. We had chosen self catering as my wife has chronic back pain, with the view of it being more comfortable to sit in the evenings. Generally the furniture and fittings were poor, though the kitchen was new. We were also very careful on the steep, twisty stairs, as they had no bannister. However, the owner was kind to allow us to put stuff in the fridge in the morning before we took up residence as we had a tight schedule. Although the property was old, it was clean. We didn't think however that it was Sykes standards or should have been advertised with the difficulties such as the steep stairs and the small unmarked step out of the kitchen highlighted. We really enjoyed our stay at Overton Bank. It's a delightful cottage suitable for a family. Clearly it is a small property but that is part of its charm and it has been cleverly fitted out to make maximum use of the space. Five of us stayed here (two adults, one teenager and two younger children) but the size of the cottage certainly wasn't an issue and we all loved the experience of staying in such an old and interesting cottage. Car parking was no problem and we were always able to park close to the cottage. It was very nice being able to walk everywhere and not having to use the car. We would definitely stay here again and are hoping to do so next year.Very cosy cottage that is beautifully decorated and right in the centre of Leek. The owner went out of her way to take care of us and was very friendly. Lovely courtyard area, comfortable and cosy lounge and great for our little girl with lots of children's books.Stayed for a week mid-March 2014, three adults. Cottage is in centre of the town with arts centre and market square < 200m away. We found footpaths North and west into the hills and ideal for cycling base. Excellent Wifi and Leek had at least 5 nice places to eat. 50 Mins from Manchester airport, 60 Minutes from Sheffield, 60 Minutes to Derby train station, so we were able to gather from all over the UK. Excellent base for a week in the Peaks. This cosy cottage was ideal for our needs, being centrally located in Leek on the edge of the Peak District. It was central yet quiet with a bijou garden ideal for a glass of wine in the late afternoon/early evening sun. It was very well centrally heated and with good all round facilities. Mind your head if you are over 5'6" though as the door heights are quite low! The only thing that we would have liked is a proper shower rather than the hand held one in the bathroom. Overall, it was excellent value for the price and we will definitely consider returning, despite generally usually choosing to stay in different places.Beautiful, quaint cottage in the heart of Leek. Lovely holiday, fabulous scenery and lots to do in the area, only quibble cottage is very small. We had an excellent stay. There were shortbread biscuits, assorted teas, coffee, a pint of fresh milk...every comfort arranged for our arrival. It's a very quaint, fairly comfortable conversion - a tiny house but converted with taste and had everything we required for a comfortable week's stay. Access through the car park was really convenient, located extremely conveniently in beautiful Leek. Could do with more comfortable seats for family of four (with teens) and a frying pan, otherwise no complaints, it was a lovely base and we'd definitely consider staying there again if visiting. Not too far from alton Towers - beautiful drives both directions, perfect proximity for The Roaches...wonderful holiday, with property high on the list for it's success."

"S16040 is generally a nice holiday cottage, just with a few issues. When we booked it it had 9.9 rating on Reevoo but I don't think it really deserves such a high score as it is far from perfect. We wanted to use the outdoor garden space but the lawns needed cutting really, and in general the outside areas of the property needed weeding. We had 2 children with us, and 4ft high stinging nettles were growing next to one of paths, so not great for playing outside! The kitchens (it has 2) were generally well equipped but we found the oven was not very good and was taking a very long time to cook food properly. I even looked up the instructions on line to check that we were operating it correctly, and we were. It was taking about 50% longer to cook food than it should have. The main living space is quite dark and gloomy, we had to have the lights on all the time or have the front door wide open to let some light in, but as it's a converted with limited windows I suppose this should be expected in some ways. A glass panel in the front door would make an enormous difference though!Worth noting is mobile phone coverage, it is very poor and we could not get any signal on Vodafone or O2 during our stay, even outside. Basic EE coverage was available outside but the signal was weak. The WiFi at the property is very good though, with coverage throughout and 30mb+ download speed was regularly available. The property lacks local information about things to do. We didn't find any leaflets relating to local attractions, and generally we were left feeling a little bit disappointed with the area in general as the village only has a pub and nothing else. On the positive side, the property was immaculately clean. The showers are good with plenty of hot water on demand. The heating was very good (a bit too good if I'm honest!) and kept the barn nice and warm. I would not hesitate to stay here in the winter, I'm sure you would be very cosy! The views and countryside surrounding the property are amazing."
