"Very disappointing. The owners seemed not to care. As requested we phoned the owners in the week before our arrival to say that although we were booked from the friday we would not in fact arrive until the saturday. They said that they would be away on saturday at a wedding in Scotland but would make sure that "someone" would be on site to welcome us, show us around, and deal with any issues. Nobody was there. We saw the owners once just before we left at the end of our stay. The hot water ran out after 24 hours. We discovered that the hot-water heater had been turned off. The kitchen was minimally equipped. For example there was no frying pan, and barely sufficient crockery for six. There was a bbq (as advertised) but it lacked a gas tank. The clothes drier seemed not to work and there was no operators manual. Several light sockets lacked a bulb, the tv connection was faulty (I fixed it), the heating was difficult to figure out and control, There was no explanation of how the power remotely controlled gates worked. The resident dogs regularly used the back lawn as a toilet (good job there were no children in our party). The comments in the guest book mentioned many of these same issues, which suggests that the owners should have been aware of these deficiencies but didn't do anything about them. The rent was increased for that week, it being the UK half-term, which made the deficiencies harder to accept. It's a pity. The location is excellent, and the rural ambiance is delightful."

"This is a very clean and comfortable, well equipped self catering cottage. Situated in an idyllic secluded location in Northumberland. Not a town or shop for miles around and yet everything we wanted, right on the doorstop. Lots of beautiful, unspoilt scenery, lovely walks, very few people and they were very friendly. A village pub less than 5 minutes walk for some wonderful evening meals. An excellent selection of single malt whiskies to round off the meal. Old Pulteney, Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Bunnahabhain, Tamnavulin to name but a few. The bird of prey centre is well worth a visit. The walk around Kielder water has some interesting sculptures. Hareshaw Linn Falls is a pleasant walk. The cottage owners were exceedingly friendly and welcoming and always on hand if anything were needed. For dark skies and star gazing, avoid the summer months, it doesn't get dark in mid June. This is a wonderful cottage owned by lovely people in a fabulous part of the country."

"Our stay at Workshop Cottage was superb. For the past few years we have been holidaying in Northumberland with our dogs and stayed in a fair few cottages. This has to be one of the best. Lovely views, close to many attractions, two good pubs on the doorstep and secure garden area for the dogs. The cottage offers all the amenities of home including a washer, dryer, dishwasher and the all important hair dryer! The beds are very comfortable and firm which I need for my back, lots of storage space. Bathroom has been well thought out, large bath and separate shower area. Love the decor of the whole place! The owner Mel is very friendly, welcoming and has good local knowledge for any walks away from Kielder Water and Forest Park. We absolutely loved the Kielder area and with so much more to explore, we are coming back next year and hopefully be staying in Workshop Cottage."

"Very helpful staff, and great cottages in a lovely quiet location. The downsides of a country location were that it took a little longer to travel the country roads to other Northumbrian attractions around the coast. Of the cottage itself - a few spiders had taken up residence in two of the shower units despite the otherwise immaculate facilities. Although the adverts describe the swimming pool and games room, the hours of use were a little restrictive in that they were not available after 7pm. We understood the Health and Safety restrictions on using the pool, but it would have been nice to be able to use the games room and/or snooker table in the evening. We would most definitely use the cottages from this owner again - but might chose to stay at their other site at Seahouses"

"Fixtures n furniture very tired and dated.Hair in sink and bath and cobwebs in bedroom and bathroom. TV didn’t work properly and no sky or wi-fi (most places have this now as std)Car park is too tight and there were x9 cars at one point (x1 car per house but even then not enough room)Cooker too small and writing rub off on controlsFridge freezer is too smallFirst time we stayed was ok as we had twin babies but now they are older need better standard of accommodation (although if it was updated likely we would go back). Location is great as is the swimming pool."
