"We stayed here as part of a group reunion we organise every year. The property is modern and well presented and immaculately clean. It's well kitted out in the kitchen and all bedrooms have an ensuite. Bedrooms are comfortable too and there is underfloor heating. Lots of hot water and good showers, plus a fantastic large bath on the upper floor. The views over the countryside are lovely, the open wild flower field at the back is great and there is a lovely large open garden space which would be excellent for kids to run around in. The cottage is very quiet, especially at night and it's easy to listen to the wonderful bird life around. We were disappointed at the welcome pack and folder. The pack was six ferrero rocher and a bottle of wine. Whilst that is always well received, including something such as a local cake or a packet of biscuits is much more useful and welcome, so that you can enjoy those with your first cuppa on arrival. The folder had all the info you need for the property, however there was nothing about things to see or do in the local area except for a leaflet about the National Memorial Arboretum. Very few recommendations for places to eat out or shop either. There are no games or books at all at the property so it was good we had brought some with us. Having these is a nice touch and always well received.WiFi is slow, however the owners are awaiting BT to upgrade the connections as the rural area becomes better connected. It does work though, although we had problems streaming the football final from BT sport.Seating area in the lounge could be better. As the property sleeps six the seating should better reflect that. Replacing the current L shaped sofa with two three seaters would be a vast improvement as the current offering is not comfortable to sit or lounge on for any period of time when six of you are there."

"Initially we were very impressed. The receptionist was very helpful and the park looks very nice. However, as with all things, it is the small things that become the big things...We immediately reported that the TV in the bedroom did not seem to work, even after re scanning all the channels...We were told that someone from maintenance would come and take care of it, they never did.We reported that only half of the jets worked on the hot tub, and received the comment that if nobody reports these things, how can they be fixed..? Surely if you're emptying and refilling the tubs frequently you'd actually check such a basic feature. Sadly the hot tub was a huge let down. It even stopped working completely, and we were told from the error code given, it was due to the fact that pressure had built up in the system, due to some of the nozzles being closed by us. No; no nozzles had been closed, they simply didn't work, and therefore this must be a recurring issue that has not been taken care of.The park has a 'minimum noise policy' where guests are asked to respect other guests. Well sadly the people staying in Lodge 1 clearly didn't respect this policy, and neither did the site management. We reported the issue to the number given, and had to leave a message. As you can imagine, no response was ever received, and the noise from Lodge 1 never went away. We reported it for a second time, and yet again we were ignored.Sadly our experience of Ashby Woulds was a huge let down. Premium money charged, for a less than average experience where they clearly over promise and under deliver."

"Owners were very friendly and the cottage was comfortable. Beds were fine. Showers were ok but could do with a lot more power. Fridge very small for a 3 bedroom property and we found that it was either not cold enough or frozen at the back. Equipment provided in the kitchen was more basic than we had experienced in previous holiday cottages. Absolutely no kitchen supplies such as vinegar, ketchup etc left from previous guests. This is the first property we have stayed at where the cupboards were bare. Non stick coating on the pots and pans were badly damaged and needed replacing. We bought our own utensils and pots and pans on the first day. We left those at the property. As the property is listed as luxury we had high expectations. Location is ok, lots of towns and national trust properties within a short drive. Description of the cottage states that there are fantastic walks form the property but we didn't really find this to be the case and very little information provided in the welcome pack. It is possible to search on google but more personal information on the local area from the owners would have been appreciated. Bike racks would have been nice to have.Very little in walking distance but we didn't mind as we went out every day. Tiny convenience store, post office and a local pub. We didn't try the pub as the reviews on tripadvisor were so bad.Great cycle trails at Cannock Chase and lots of national trust properties to visit with dog friendly walks. Towns nearby all worth a visit. We enjoyed our visit and found lots to do."

"We have previously stayed at swainswood park near by and thought we would try Ashby Woulds Lodges as there seemed to be more facilities and newer bigger lodges. We payed a lot more money to stay at Ashby Woulds Lodges and we wouldn’t say the higher price is justified. The only difference really is a slightly bigger lodge and sky Tv but the lodge was nearly twice as expensive. There was an iPod docking station but couldn’t be used as it was the of apple docking port which were unaware of. The lodge wasn’t really well kept there was a hole in the wall, pieces of trim missing, stained towels, mould in bathroom due to extractor not working, marks on bedding etc although it was clean. The kitchen and bathrooms were fully equipped. The hot tub wasn’t private at all, you could be seen from every angle, even from the front of the lodge where people are passing which resulted in it hardly being used. It also didn’t bubble much and you couldn’t really change the settings much on it. The man came to check on it in the middle of the afternoon every day too so you were also wary of using it until he had been. We didn’t have much dealing with the staff, we checked in late due to traffic so they took our deposit over the phone and said the cabin would be open and that’s the last we heard. The office was closed for two Days over new year. Over all we don’t think it is worth the money although we did enjoy our stay. Definitely needs updating, unless there is a cheap deal we won’t be stopping here again."

"I was looking forward to going somewhere not to far away but when we got there the staff mainly the manger was talking to me like I just entered the army, ‘do I make myself clear’ ‘do you understand’ in a controlled sturn manner I thought she was going to ask to drop and give her 20 at one point!! the manger wasn’t very nice if I didn’t answer a question quick enough I got ‘well?’ ‘Yes? No? Yes? No?’ ‘You going to answer?’ asked me to fill form out as I was I could hear them slagging about other staff I felt awkward and was embarrassed, the lodge wasn’t the greatest it was all stone floor and was quite cold no rugs or anything and they don’t have the basics eg cheese grater, and others, gardeners are always around you feel like you can’t go in the hot tub in the day because he will jump out of nowhere, a man checks the hot tub daily too but he comes round whenever he want, so no set time so again you can’t really go in the hot tub in the day just in case he hasn’t been round, plus sometimes he check it twice other once a day sooo messed up andfor some reason they empty the hot tub every time someone had been (isn’t that what the chemical are for) so it didn’t heat up for a day so that was wasted that day was. not very happy over all NEVER COMING BACK!!! AND I WOULDNT RECOMMEND IT!!!!"
