"It was in a great location, was cosy, comfortable, spacious - and quite quirky. We appreciated the vintage touches - including the downstairs bathroom, although it probably wouldn't suit anyone who prefers all "mod cons". The bath was so huge it did require a step to get into it (and this was necessary even if you just wanted a shower), and the old fashioned, high level toilet was a little temperamental. The enclosed back garden was great for the dogs, and having a dog-friendly pub with good food just a few minutes' walk was a real bonus. The location was ideal for exploring Northumberland, particularly the coast. The only real criticism is that the cleaners hadn't done a great job. At first glance, the cottage appeared clean, however this was superficial. Previous visitors had mentioned a broken toilet seat in the "notes to housekeeper" book and this hadn't been fixed, nor had a broken bedside lamp bulb been replaced (my husband sorted both of these). Instructions about bins and recycling would have been helpful. Although the kitchen was well equipped, there was no grill pan for the cooker. Shower curtains in the bathrooms would have prevented wet floors. This was the first time we had booked through Sykes and we were impressed with the efficiency of the booking, and follow up. The app is particularly useful."

"The cottage was clean, comfortable, well equipped and welcoming with views of rolling countryside in all directions. The owner provided a nice welcome pack as well as dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, washing powder as they used eco brands in this property. The washing machine was in fact a washer/dryer which was a bonus. Banburgh was a short drive away with it's castle and miles lovely beaches. There are plenty of maps and tourist information in the cottage - the kids enjoyed the narrow gauge railway ride - the engine was also called Bunty! Would highly recommend."

"However our first impression when opening the door was of a large door mat caked in dog hair and of dog hair in clumps around the lounge floor and under furniture, all of which we had to clear up ourselves before we unpacked. This gave the impression of a property that was generally not clean. We felt that as were were booked to stay with our own dog it had been felt unnecessary to clean up properly from the one before. We made sure that we cleared up after our own dog before we left. This one thing really let down what was a wonderful base for a brilliant holiday."

"This cottage was brilliant for our needs, was well equipped and maintained (However the main bed's mattress was knackered and this has been feedback I've given to Sykes about cottages I have stayed in before).
