"We spent a very enjoyable fortnight at the cottage, and found the property to be full of character and tastefully modernised. The setting is beautiful; very peaceful but not isolated, and the cottage is surrounded by attractive countryside. The owner Julie was very friendly and welcoming, and we really appreciated the welcome pack provided that included extras such as wine and chocolates. The use of a washing machine and a large outhouse for bike storage was very helpful, and it was great being able to use the wood burner and control the central heating ourselves. The kitchen appliances were easy to use, and as we were there for 2 weeks it was a bonus to have use of a chest freezer in the outhouse, as well as the freezer compartment within the kitchen fridge. In general the kitchen was well equipped for every day cooking/meal preparation, however in our opinion there were insufficient cups and other crockery items; we gave this feedback directly to the owner and she was happy to take on board for the future. The cottage is ideally located for country walks, and we particularly enjoyed being able to leave the car behind and walk to the village of Castle Carrock or the nearby Gelt Wood. Other places such as Brampton, Lanercost Priory, Birdoswold Roman Fort and Carlisle, were all easily accessible by car, as was Alston. Overall we had a relaxing stay in the cottage and found local people to be very friendly and welcoming - hopefully we will return another time. (A point to note about the layout of the cottage is that the small bedroom can only be accessed via the master bedroom, and they are separated by a single door.)"

"This is a old farmhouse cottage in beautiful surroundings. My main concerns were that there were not instructions regarding the central heating . When we contacted the owner we could only leave a message, then you had to wait for them to contact us. It was very cold and temperatures had dropped rapidly the week we stayed. We had my mam of 80 years and my granddaughter with us who .were extremely cold . There was a log burner which we did manage to light eventually, but with one match in a box left and hardly any logs or papers. We were told by the owner that it was oil that worked the central heating and there wouldn't be any left but a delivery was due at the end of the week. We went out and bought logs etc for the fire and my son eventually managed to access the boiler and managed to reset it at which point it did come on. I have never been any where before with such little information given and have had to buy fuel to warm the accommodation. We do live in England and should expect any thing from our weather. Also my son was unable to sleep in his double bed as it was so uncomfortable. Brilliant place for walking and for dogs."

"The cottage is beautifully decorated throughout to an excellent standard. And the owners were very welcoming and accommodating. A lovely welcome package including bread and milk, butchers sausages and bacon and a lovely bottle of wine was waiting for us. This was a really nice touch and was greatly appreciated. We spent half our stay relaxing in the private hot tub! But there is also plenty to do in the surrounding area. Haidrians wall is nearby, and a waterfall named Crammel Linn is worth a visit. Our group didn’t mind long drives so we also visited the Farne Islands on the east coast and The Lake District. You also get use of the owners swimming pool which is in a fantastic setting. Overall, we had a great time!"

"Enjoyed our stay immensly, owners very helpful, a very well equipped property. Situated a short walk from Lanercost Abbey (restaurant),nearto Brampton for general shops(Spar & Co op) parking slightly confusing, just pop into the post office and ask for a parking disc, my brother lives in Scotland and they use the same system(Disc&display).Property near to all the Hadrian wall visitors sites, Carlisle excellent shopping & parking, Gretna only a short drive away. Only slight problem I found with the cottage, and only because we have a large4x4 is the parking, the lane at the side of the cottage is well used, and by some large vehicles, smaller cars would probably not find manuevering an issue."

"The cottage was immaculately clean and very well equipped. Located at the end of a sleepy 'dead end' it is the ideal location for a relaxing get away from it all type break. What was a little disappointing was the presence of builders at the attached holiday let for two thirds of our stay (1710 is only the right hand side of the building) but the owner was very apologetic and we were generously compensated for the disturbance. The only issue is that the two holiday lets are separated by a (locked) internal door which does little to reduce any adjacent noise and ones privacy might be affected, other than that we would not hesitate to recommend this place for a short break. Enjoy..."
